you could sab someones defensive weapons before stealing - but be aware that sabbing in general is seen as anti-social. IOW - if you are going to sab someones defense so you can steal their gold you had better be prepared for the comeback!
Also timing would be everything...
re: LordStriker as commander - he has a LOT of officers (thats how you get 3.5mil men I guess?!?) and I bet he dosent actively support many of them. But most if not all of his officers will be Striker Clan members, and like most active clans they protect their ranks from abuse.
However from what I've seen in various forums a simple x1x15 or x15 steal is not seen as abuse, but as a vital part of the game and you should not expect retaliation as such from their clan or commanders.
If you sab/farm/bully them then they will get help from some big guns though.

Yeah, and I have seen much higher too. The best I have seen with my own eyes is >250mil, protecting a 9mil stash.
Most of the 6mil+ gold I see are >50 mil DA minimum, but I usually find a target between 4.5 and 5.5 mil gold within my reach (29mil SA).
Strange that guy has low sentry (but not 0 - which might have some advantadge) with very-high DA. Imo you are better off with a very-high sentry and a lower DA. Once you are past newbie ranks there is very little attacking blind (in my limited experience - might be completely different if you have a big TFF in fact.)

I ve found myself a nice farm.
This morning I hit him 15/15 for 1.2 mill gold, so I bought myself a blackpowder missile and some defenses (I sold off so much yesterday when I upped my spy and sentry levels)

I got in 4/11 times. He will have a much harder getting in to see me, not totally sure (cant be arsed to work it out) on his spy but it is nowhere near mine so relatively he is worse off.
If he armed his weapons he would have similar stats to mine except his spy/sentry isnt balanced the way mine is.

I only had 8 turns but I hit him up for ~791k. I've been able to find others > 3M around my rank. I've been buying up BPM and IS. I'm ranked ~60k now

cool [cool] always aim as high as you possibly can I say!
just had a quick look at your stats, nice going so far :) if I were you I would get the use of your covert upgrades and train spies/buy hooks for a while. If you find you are getting robbed then maybe build sentry too. you have got a pretty decent SA for your rank and increasing your spy opens up more and more targets within your striking range.
if you want a hand hunting then get yourself on msm :)

So I'm out there hunting and I find this guy HoT-Plague_of_death with 26 mill gold. But I'm just not quick enough. I only get 2.3 mill out of my 15 attacks. Bummer.

Just scouted him. His 1 bil attack could be annoying, but he could really have his butt in a sling in this instance. We all attack him a time or 2 and just slaughter his poor defenseless spies.
More than likely just a hotheaded Biatch where the only time he can scare anyone is in an online game. Gotta love guys like that and their bluster. Brings back memories of when I played StarCraft and I had people threatening me with viruses if I didn't disconnect and give them the win.
His attack was huge at 650 mill SA but he warrants watching because though he's a great hunter of large pots of gold he is not a great protector of his own (40 mill DA).
At the right moment he can presumably carry large cash deposits (like the 26 mill I just missed). Warrants watching for sure.

I have noticed a large number of people banking lots of turns.
This is a bad idea as soon anybody with any gold will be a target. I advocate not banking any more than 300 turns with more than 3 moonths played in the age.

one big reason people have so many turns is because they have been banking the whole age. They never buy SA - just DA and sentry (and maybe knives, but most bank in IS effectively). If they are minded they then sell a bunch of IS and buy some BPM and go hunting, but there seem to be a fair few who will end the age with a whole lot of turns.

PP has quit, I reactivated his account and raped* it last week [satan] - there is some $$ (weapons) left which I was unable to rape at the time (and now wont because it involves training down too much for me), ~90 mil iirc which I was going to donate to Mistfit (he happened to be online when I asked) but then my isp decided to disconnect me on friday [mad3] and I am still waiting for them to sort out their fuckup and reconnect me!!** (right now I really really hate NTL, I mean I loathe them, I want to SMASH THEIR FUCKING HEADS TOGETHER UNTIL THEY RECONNECT ME)
But anyway yeah if you want to hit PP then go for it, he has Defensive Action 36,290,179 and his TBG is >1mil. I don't know if his account will stay drifting or not - I think after a few weeks they deactivate inactive accounts automatically.
*I spent >2500 turns PP had saved up in a night and a half, then sold almost all and raped quite some gold... around 2bil in all [:O]!! Thanks PP!!

everyone I hit was >35mil, many at ~40 (and a couple a lot higher) but there is no escaping the random factor :( Still I found a lot of good targets - some very good that I wouldnt have seen before.
note the highest amounts stolen have the least DA... I think they were sells though. And the guy I hit for 50mil messaged me that he was saving(!?) for 640up, he only had 100mil sentry so I find it hard to understand how he had saved 60mil up in his treasury but maybe he meant he was doing an attack run?
Every time I jump to a new level in KoC and I start thinking how good I am at this game you post things like this and put me back in to my proper place :D
I think I am doing quite nicely with my 400M spy :)
But I am far from dealing 1,000M damage.. my SA is only 700M..

yeah once you have a couple hundred mil spy/sa it dosen't seem to improve much, the more SA you have the larger your TFF and more spy just reduces hunting time really. I can see a fair few with megabucks (>50mil regular - so from TBG) but they are always out of my reach, like billions of DA.
Of course the better your spy the more likely you are to see good steals I guess but I don't spend enough time hunting really. The problem for me is that I have to do all my hunting at once as I train all to SA/DA - but if I were to keep both SA and DA trained I wouldn't be able to hit nearly as many of my targets due to size [ponder] I'd also be more of a target of course, but you Banzai seem to be keeping SA and DA trained and hitting very good targets too! How do you do that?
How I do that?
Well.. my tff is only 3660 men at the moment -- 702M SA, 300M DA.
Lots of targets are in my range, and I also attack smaller armies if they are rich enough.
I search for targets with at least 30M gold.
I start hunting when I have 15 turns and have the time. I need just one target so I just let the hunter do its job.
Checking my previous targets works too :)
Just got back from a visit to Paris.
I got robbed 3 times for a total of 60M :(

I should start looking around and start hunting again soon. I just needed to drop down in rank and really increase my sentry.

probably noobs... as it is apart from the piffling gold stolen I dont think they will have actually harmed you.
I haven't done shit this age yet the only thing I've done so far is upgrade my units to 5/day. I couldn't even buy a stick with that kind of cash they stole.[sulk]
