View Full Version : SUMMERTIME MEETING - further planning and date

Lt. Killer M
27-04-2005, 11:16
It appears that both July 8-10 and July 15-17 are quite OK dates for the meeting.

I hereby set the date for Friday, July 15 to Sunday, July 17 qas this fits best with my personal planning (see here: http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2626). I hope that many of you can come! [party]

Wouldn't it be better to make two lists and decide based on the numbers which weekend is best? Or is it too late for that?

I can come on both weekends, but something else is in planning, so I do need to know within the next two/three weeks.

Lt. Killer M

Matrix: no, it is too late. I had to tell the doc when the OP should be. So i fixed the date now.

Seems to be.

However you can strongly pencil me in for that date.

I will do what I can to make it there.

I put it at about an 80% chance.

I will need directions/picking up from Stuttgart airport however [blush]

Do you wanna change the date just for me? And the fact that you will be just outta hospital I guess...

Stapel,

seeing as you said you'd be able to come Thursday - is that still the plan?

That's only a small detour! However, around 6 in the evening, it might take 90 minutes. The difference between arriving at 10pm and 11:30 pm.

To safe time, we could meet at exit 27 (Westervoort) on the A12 east of Arnheim ;). When you come from Nijmegen, follow A325 and N 325 north. You'll enter the A12 at the roundabout "knooppunt Velperbroek". You have to leave it at the first exit (27), actually before you really have entered the A12.
At this exit, you can park your car at the McDonald's parking lot.
6:00 - 6:15 seems fine.

NB:
I am not really sure Lt. Killer M. can host both of us at his own place (on friday, we will go to his parents place).
Furthermore, I will leave saturday at noon!!

Matrix
21-06-2005, 11:48
That suits me fine. I was supposed to get a lift from Rik (remember?), but I have another party that saturday, so getting back earlier is no problem for me.

Shabbaman

I think I'll be there, but still don't know for sure. Obviously I could take a detour through noviomagus. Can't confirm atm though.

Rik Meleet
21-06-2005, 12:37
Stapel: just exploring options. In the end it is Killer's decision if it is possible at all on Thursday.

Going back on Saturday is not what I'd prefer. But getting a lift back from someone else on Sunday suits me fine. Perhaps I'll even drive myself in my Volkswagen; haven't decided yet. Like I said; just exploring options.
Matrix: I hadn't forgotten about you. Just exploring options.

Stapel
21-06-2005, 14:44
Well, at least I can take Matrix on the way back.

I meant a Dutch train station. [tongue]

But if you plan to drive this southern, I might as well go by train from Stuttgart. Don't know how expensive that is, but I'll look it up now.
Edit: That's not true. If someone could drop me off in e.g. Breda that would save me a lot of http://www.straland.com/images/smilies/cash.gif!

@matrix: my post wasnt meant as comment on your post, it was meant as a reaction on Stapel answering my post way up this thread. I'm in Luxemburg on saturday morning so I need to find the most sensible way of me getting to Stuttgart while my wife needs to go to Eindhoven that same day. Driving Luxemburg-Eindhoven-Stuttgart isnt the most efficient way to solve that particular problem.

I'll be leaving Breda sometime Friday, Shabba you can get a seat if you want, you'll come from Roosendaal I assume? Rik, no prob for Sunday. If I use the Passat there will be 4 full seats and a big trunk (for Belgian beers ;) [drunk]). Matrix, I am thinking of either Den Bosch or Nijmegen as a place to pick you up.

About what time of the day to leave keeping in mind we want some quality drinking time in Stuttgart? [party]

Rik Meleet
22-06-2005, 22:30
Beam: thanks.
Matrix: I have no problem with driving with you on Thursday to Arnhem for Stapel to pick us up.
Beam + Matrix: (If Matrix choose to go with Beam on friday) I would advise against choosing Nijmegen on Friday as a pickup point as that will be he 1st (unofficial) day of the 4-daagse festivities here. It will be busy in and around Nijmegen from Friday July 15th till Saturday July 23rd. Getting to the railwaystation by car will be hard, as well as finding eachother easily.

Matrix

take care to drive there via the Dailmerplatz - Wiesbadener Strasse, otherwise you'll end up in another part of Kreuznacher Strasse that is seperated from you goal by a 4 lane & tram road which can't be crossed for a few blocks.

Some more logistics: I am planning to leave somewhere in the afternoon after picking up Matrix. From what time on are we welcome Killer? Ideally I'd like to leave Breda at about 1 and be in Stuttgart around 6 or 7 (depending on traffic which I expect to be less busy in summertime). Matrix, can you make it somewhere between 12 and 1 at Breda CS, Shabba if at last you get your act together ;) is that a suitable time for you as well?

Last but not least, do I need to bring Switch and cables for a small LAN party? [tongue] I have a laptop btw, Rik and Killer have one so that makes at least three. :)

Stapel, I really recommend you cross the border near Nijmegen (A73) instead of Arnhem because it keeps you well out of the Ruhrgebiet and that motorway usually is much quieter than the one to Oberhausen. It saves Rik driving up and down to Arnhem and it saves me a detour on the way back.

Indeed.

Nijmegen -> Venlo -> then south of the Ruhr-gebiet. Follow the A61 to Hockenheim and then the A5 and near Karlsruhe the A8 to Stuttgart.

I live close to the A73. It's not like you'll be driving all through Nijmegen.

Lt. Killer M
09-07-2005, 22:19
Rik: you're right, best route south. Just took it last monday to and from Bonn - easy travelling!

When getting close to Stuttgart: best, change over to A81 (Heilbronn) at Leonberger Dreieck, leave it at the second exit (Kornwestheim), follow directions first to Stuttgart center, then later Bad Cannstatt & Zoo. When in Stuttgart you drive down the hill, two lane road and pass the construction site after the big crssroad on the hill (can't miss), stick to the LEFT lane! At the bottom, the other lanes do a 90° right, here, CHANGE lanes tot he right to go STRAIGHT!
Then, take first right, first right again, use left-most of the 4 lanes. Take a left across the big crossroads with tram tracks going downhill into Bad Cannstatt (under large rail bridge). Take left-most lane, follow it through a left turn. IMMEADIATELY turn right - caution, there is a light there that often is read and hard to see before you make the turn.

Follow the road and take the SECOND exit in the roundabout. Another first right and you are in kreuznacher Strasse.

MAP to follow tomorrow.

I'm sure somebody will have a digicam ready.

But really hot - it is not.

Maybe I should bring some leisure clothes as well. At home I usually run around in what we call a trainings anzug.

Thanks for hosting the party Killer! It was a lot of fun :)

I just made it back home... 640 km in 6 hours, including a major traffic jam near Koblenz.
The road was totally blocked.. people getting out of their cars!
Lucky me I had just bought the roadmap of Germany and was standing near an exit, so I used the map to see if there was another road, and there was!
So I made a small de-tour (beautifull scenery) but could get back on the highway a bit closer to Koblenz.. an almost empty German Autobahn for me.... VRRRROOOOOOM :D

Hope to meet you guys again!

Banzai!

Thanks Killer. I had an excellent time.

We got stuck in trafic as well, but we weren't so lucky as there was no AUSFAHRT. When we reached one, the traffic was moving again. Matrix is now on his way to Groningen by train, Beam is closing in on Breda and should be there within half an hour.

I hope you'll all agree: Next stop: Cambridge.

Thanks for organizing this Killer!

Came home 10 minutes ago and apart from the traffic jam we had a smooth trip, including setting a new personal speed record of 220 kmh for Rik and Matrix. :D

We saw 2 of these busses near Cologne. [rotfl]

I really felt shit I had to leave so early.
How was the game on saturday?

I had a wonderful trip back home too. I left a Stuttgart Tankstelle near Killer's at 12:15, to be at the border at 15:45.

@Stapel:
The game was received in a very possitive way. I got the impression all players (not me, I made the map so I didn't play) loved it. They want it to be made into a PBEM, which I of course will do.

For what I saw of it, the map really felt right. It seemed to have a nice balance between equal chances AND a random map.

What sort of Parrot is that? It looks very similar in body shape to our rainbow lorikeets.

Lt. Killer M

Sir Eric: itmay well be!

Someone set free a couple of them about 15 years ago. They now live wild, sleep ina tree in the zoo, steal food there and breed in the ventilation exhausts of a large company here that makes engine parts for mercedes (warm ducts with room - excellent for nests). They have grow to a pop of about 25 or so IIRC.
