Now I suggest we could do a few things here.
1) Ignore this prick and leave it be...
2) Disband attack Specialists (it's free, they then become untrained), then upgrade to sentries first of all. Buy tools for em, he's right you can't sabotage them :( When you have enough, upgrade others to Spies and give them stuff and THEN we sabotage anything they have until the end of the age (at least 4 months time) This also helps cos your army size goes down and you get more money for attacks.
3) Just keep hitting him for cash and getting sabotaged to buggery :(
The silver lining is that we will only ever get more troops and will get lots of money :D

I've got 786 untrained soldiers, so retraining them sounds a bit premature. Just sell some of your big weapons and buy guard dogs for your sentries.

I m a bit disappointed. Why resort to speaking his language (omg lol etc), when you can insult him using much more sophisticated English.

Seems I am really "disabled" from the game now - Ville, originally my officer, is now PP's officer, I am not listed as Shabba's etc. They take "vacation" mode seriously...

unfortunately if he has very high spy level he can pretty much sab us at will - he gets 11 attempts per 1/2 hour.
All my recon attempts have failed so his sentry must be at least okay too.
I could sell all my weapons (maybe 8mil worth) and train 1700 spies/buy some hooks - but if he has already gone all-out sab then there may be little we could ever do to hurt him, even if one of us could overtake his sentry with our spy skill (maybe impossible? who knows) there just isnt anything AFAICS that actually damages a sab account much.
Probably all we can do is hit him to hurt him (kill his men, his spies/sentries die in attacks too i think) - it is better to hit him with 15x 1turn attacks rather than 1x 15turn attack.
Honestly I think I would rather see this fade away, because if he sabs for spite endlessly this game might get boring very quickly...
of course I do have a slight urge to go all-out spy and see if we can fight sab with sab, I am already using all cash gained to only train spies. However, the longer I keep my weapons the longer I can keep getting good steals = more spies/hooks, so if we could somehow get him to piss off for a while then go after him later... [fdevil]

If you want to get lots of units (=>more money per turn + more men to train/arm/fight) then join a recruiter (read this post (http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2606&REPLY_ID=48317) for details) - if you want some free ones (I will gift you 150 or so) then join the www.drunknterrorist.net (http://www.drunknterrorist.net) recruiter (and do one session so the db activates you properly i think) and I will send some clicks your way.
If you want to learn more about the game mechanics then the link Meli gave on the first page is good - and/or go read the forums at KoC. Or ask questions here and we will help of course.
You are elves (weirdo) so you might want to think about concentrating on spy stuff, but attacks are the way to make real cash - so maybe go attack and spy. Better to be master in a couple of stats than an all-rounder imo, but I know shit - so do whatever seems fun!

With all the random attacking it's inevitable that you're going to piss someone off. Especially when you start farming someone. So getting your sentry rating up isn't a really bad idea. I suggest you all put all the money you receive the next days in your sentries. Better safe then sorry.
@shabba, my sentiments exactly. I started investing in sentries and accompanying equipment.

To protect from sab/spy you need high sentry. However... if you have lv10 covert and send 1 spy with hook to sab then you can sab much higher sentry - maybe 1/10 times. You need really overwhelming superiority in your sentry vs their spy level to have any sure protection.

Something else:
GPT income for a soldier is 28, 15 for a spy or sentry. Training a spy or sentry costs 3500. Buying a guard dog with strength 15 is 100k. For 100k you can train 28 sentries. Does this mean it is more cost effective to train sentries? I have way too much untrained soldiers to begin with anyway.

Berti the great had like 800K and was defended by camps only. If he does not retaliate I may use him for a milker.

My plan is to build up my spy and sentry ratings and pound on Stout911. He took 5 of my missles. He must pay.

The "before" amount and the amount stolen has a strange discrepancy indeed. But he could've a large amount of spies so he still has high gpt. That would explain how he got that money in the first place.
Or perhaps he was busy with some weapons deal, selling weapons while you attacked him.
EDIT:
I've sold my last BPM, afraid it might be sabotaged. My other weapons weren't sabotaged, luckily. So maybe I sold the missile prematurely. However, I didn't want to take risks. I'll be buying wargs instead of the larger weaponry the coming time.
He, I guess, could have been attacking someone else at the same time as I was attacking him.

he was either attacking or selling his weapons for an upgrade, lucky! very very lucky, and the best single steal (I know of) for Meli's Marauders yet.
btw - your upgrades are pretty high now relative to your actual SA/DA. Nice because they are unsabbable and make you look tougher than you are - but you will get better bang for buck by buying the best weapons you can.

heh, some guy just above me in rank hit me for an 8k probe yesterday. Not too much to worry about.
But then I got hit (blind - he has no spy) for 250k with a full assault by another chancer. Bloody annoying, espeically as there are plenty of juicy targets for those who can see them!
If you are a large orc army seems ppl will hit you blind on the chance of a good hit (they assume low defense).

Unfortunately I got so many untrained soldiers that I can't train them all... so they get killed. Well, they grow back anyway. But the large army is preventing huge amounts of pillaged gold as well.
Q: how is it that when I try to sabotage someone with spy rating 140 and sentry rating 0 (read: zero) my spy gets executed? Bad luck? He's only got covert level 2, mine's 6

there is a 'feature' that means it is hard to sab/spy people with 0 sentry.
are you sending more than one agent on the mission btw? I should have said before only ever send one person on any spy mission... for some inexplicable reason sending more only ever brings woe.

@misfit: the guy could have been attacking or selling stuff when you attacked him. Yesterday some lucky SoB hit me for 2M when I was divesting my weaponry. I had 2 screens open, sold in one, immediately hit 'train'in the other, he somehow managed to hit me in between. He must have had an awesome evening.

Which way do you guys think is a better way of improving my spy/covert part of my game
1.) wait for 2 or 3 days without attacking anyone to build up enough attack turns to get to 3 mil for my level 9 upgrade
2.) sell off 3 mil worth of spy and sentry tools to do the upgrade and buy the tools back slowly afterwards?
I'm leaning to #1 because of the 25% discount when selling. Can you see a reason to go the other route?
Also once I'm at the highest level for spying do you think I'm better off buying the most expensive tools available or buy lots of cheaper tools? 5 ropes or 1 grappling hook?

1) seems safe, selling spy tools only get you 45% of what you paid for them as they can't be sabbed.
When at highest spying always buy the best tools you can. You get more spy points per gold piece that way.

The DA of the enemy does not much matter, it can cost you some units. What realy is important is that they have a lot of cash and a very big army (5x times yours or so).

to keep much more than ~800k you need some combination of high DA / high sentry / small army size.
Also bear in mind how big a target you look compared to those around you, if others of a similar rank to you have bigger armies and more gold then you are safe. I can keep upto around 1.5 mil before I get robbed simply because around me are people with ~2mil and bigger armies.
Something to consider also are the diminishing returns on everything. 2 mil SA can probly get you ~1 mil gold per steal, 20 mil SA gets me around 2 mil gold each steal. 99% of the >3mil treasuries I see have 20-30 mil DA [:O].
Last two weeks I onlyhave been robbed once I got 1.6M+ in cash. With the 150k a turn I'm making atm, It's hard to survive the overnight pause. working in defense and keeping the army small. Now have 8500+ covert ops, thought I was doing pretty ok, then I saw dr. A.'s stats....
Some players use 15 attacks to steal only 80k, like Holocaust did yesterday (ranked about 20,000!).
Some players retaliate because you have attacked them, like eXtrEmIs 5 hours ago.. he attacked me 3 times for 15 turns each to steal 286k and kill 8 general soldiers, 4 spies and 4 sentries. Only because I have stolen 1,5M from him yesterday [groucho]

Yesterday I saw someone ranked 60k with 3.5M. I spied on him and found that he got a DA of 17.5M. Now, that's huge. But his sentry rating was only 56k. Since I had yet to try a sabotage action, I sabotaged one of his invisibility shields.
Afterwards, I thought that was a bit rude. OTOH, perhaps I should've pushed through and sabotaged the rest of his defensive weaponry. If I had, my guess is that it'd have been pretty obvious who sabotaged him. A bit harsh for some 3M loot, don't you think?
Any thoughts?

There are some conflicting ideas on what you can successfully sab. There may well be some equation that tells you how much weapon strength you can sab in one turn - but the formulae I have seen are easily refuted.
Commonly accepted is that the absolute maximum you can sab in one mission is 10 BPM/IS (or 12 if you are an elf). To achieve this easily you will need a higher spy level than their sentry rating. However if your spy isnt that great (relative to their sentry) then you can just sab 1 at a time with about a 5% success rate (you need level 10 spy and hooks accordign to some).
Some claim that a ratio of spies to hooks of 1:1 is good, and there is anecdotal evidence to both support and refute this - I think its not true, just make sure you have some hooks. (even though I am buying a lot of hooks nowadays, but I train 100's to spies every day too ;))
I'm pretty cautious about sabbing myself, I have only sabbed one guy - and that was in retaliation for his (failed) sab attempt and a steal (he annoyed me because he didnt need to sab me in the first place!) Problem with sabbing is that anyone can hurt anyone - espeically if they dont care about retaliation. And (according to lore) there are a lot of 'sab accounts' - as in second accounts not (usually) attached to a command chain that exist purely to do recon/sab work without fear of retaliation.
Personally I think if you sab someones DA to get their gold that is pretty valid, however you can expect retaliation for any sab attempt so be prepared for the comeback! It's hard to see that it will often be worth it, by hunting around you will probably find as big a target as any you can sab down a bit - without creating an enemy that will never forget you.

Hmm well, I tried to sab someone with sentry rating 128k and cs 8 and failed to sabotage 1 of his 27 invisibility shields. My spy rating is 2.2M and cs 10. Pretty lame.
So basically you're saying that if I find some sucker (like the one I mentioned earlier) with a lot of dough, and preferrably without a strong command chain to get back on me, I can sab him to get his money? Sounds good.
I'll just make sure to train some more sentries.

One of my old milking targets attacked me. Since he didn't recon, his attack failed because of my higher DA. I tried to sabotage him multiple times, but failed. Probably because his sentry rating is so low. He's without commander, and he has a single officer. I doubt he'll ever be able to retaliate properly.

I got attacked again, for a change. This morning at 5 or so, so I was pretty loaded. And with the huge amount of fresh recruits I was a easy target. No biggie, but I'd rather keep the money myself. The problem with the new recruits is that the yoyo tactic is screwed up.
My plan is to bank shields so if/when I get attacked all trainees have at least a weapon to pick up. Good idea?
BTW, I just noticed something pretty dumb: if I keep my TFF as low as possible through retraining all my attackers as spies (or sentries), and (thus) only keeping defenders with weapons (invisibility shields, duh), everybody can see immediately how strong my defence is. That is, 76 defenders multiplied with the theoretical maximum of 10,000, multiplied with the defensive bonus of my boiling oil. So anyone who can see how much money I have will instantly attack me.

well you are correct that its easy to work out someones max defense(50k*fort*num), and its also true that any good orc army that can train down enough men will beat you. Your low fortification level makes it worse but as orcs get *1.3 to SA good orc armies (ie. with BPM's and high siege-level) would likely feel confident to beat you anyway.
It's really a question of where you want to hold the gold, I can usually hold about 5-6million gold at my true rank before I get robbed, I don't usually get robbed at 30k rank until I have >10mil gold for a while. Just less hunters looking at the lower ranks I reckon, ymmv!

Probably, yes, if you could get dr. A's goldhunter utility to work. Joining now would be a bit pointless, but the new age (when everything resets and starts anew) should be in some weeks from now. Then with some clicking with a special click program should get you several hundred recruits a day (which takes only 5 minutes, really) until you can upgrade the daily recruits to something like 320 a day.

shabba's advice is okay [tongue] but imo you click as much as you can, buy whatever unit production upgrades you can, and carry on clicking as much as you can... heh.
clicks=men=money=power. also hunting=money, but you get the same no of attack turns whatever so having a large turn based gold income (thru a large no of men in your army) enables you to power up and make more from the attacks.
I'll start a thread this w/e so we can start discussing 'how we should play age5'. Or Meli will, whichever of us can be arsed first. We should think a bit about how we can maximise our power as a group.
I have a good idea for the GoldHunter app (if anyone else ever gets it to work apart from Meli ;)) - I want to add spy logging, integrated into the hunter so that you get nice icons telling you if you already know what there likely strength is - all time-dated and nicely displayed (and a button to show you the log, plus searching for logs etc etc.)
And then further to have a central database which the app connects to and uploads/downloads spy logs so we can all share eachothers spy reports [ninja] That would be a great system I think!

I'm a bit at a crossroads atm and I don't know where to go. Should I invest in more offensive weapons, in spies or in sentries? The only upgrades I could purchase are 80M, and I doubt that's worth the money.

The computer I regularly use is Win 98, although I can use an XP every now and again.
Really detailed instructions on how to set up clickers and hunter utilities would be appreciated as I sometimes cannot even find the power button on PC's.

I just spent all my gold getting more troops per 24, training my lone guy as an attacker and buying him a knife.
I clicked myself a troop, randomly attacked some guys, stole 1,000+ gold from 1, and bought more loot. All done for now.

I bought Cannons (which had become a cost-effective upgrade :D) and spent the rest on BPM/IS. For my Cannons upgrade (81mil) I actually did some quick attacks and got it to 50mil but then got cold feet and sold 60 BPM to make the upgrade quick!
The 226mil hunt is an impressive sum but bear in mind I have >500 mil SA. You could probably hit at least half that amount of gold with an SA of 10-50 mil (and a decent spy). I also saw a lot of targets with >15 mil gold I couldnt hit without training down some.
There's quite a few I cannot hit but can still see too... there's a couple of guys with a DA > 1 bil who regualrly have >30 mil gold lying around [:O]

The only targets I encounter with over 20M gold all have DA's over 200M. A real pity. Perhaps with some attacks I could get my SA that high, but I think it'd be more cost effective to increase my spy level (and then find the targets with hy sentry but low DA).

random factor, you inflict ~65% damage each but there is a small random factor of maybe a few percent either way.
60,507,612 is only 3% larger than 58,593,213 - you were unlucky but it's in the odds.
