My start!

Worker is there as he scouted before we settled.

Will chop both forests.

1 for barracks before I research pottery [rolleyes]
1 for granary.

OK played 12 turns already after a nice 10 turn session on MSN to get started [goodjob]

Barracks completed. Time to start my miltary.

Just realised you can't tell that I founded on Ivory. This has helped me survive on size 2.

Size three in 3 turns, first warrior builds at the same time [:p]

Also pottery comes in then. I was tempted to set up a granary prebuild to be implemented once pottery's in, also next forest chop is ordered for then too.

Should I build military now or not?

Also in other news, Barbu1997 asked if there were any restriction on buying workers from the AI. I swore quietly and said that it was fine.

He's met someone [cry]

PS. Pictures up soon, just gotta roll something first.

Doesn't show the 4 turns to pottery though.

3 turns of +3fpt, just changed to +1fpt to look at the possibility of getting the warrior quicker.

Changed it back though.

Anyways, welcome to the thread!

Was it a table for one?

Oh, you're "expectin some friends"...

ok...

Maybe you'd like to wait at the bar?

So anyways. Turn 13.

Worker heads for 2nd game tile to chop for me granary and spots incense in the NW.

Coupled with the Cow and Coast appearing to the east, 2 sites offer themselves immediately for consideration.

So ok we made it to turn 43.

Not much to report.

Met the Babs a while back. They are now CB, Warrior Code and Iron Working up on me. But I have a secret weapon! I get Masonry in 4 turns [:P]

Odd research for me in this game, having to research pottery was NOT fun. But I did it and got The Wheel for good measure. A few more cities trade for WC from the Babs and then its horsemen out the ass.

:)

Now for some pics.

Warning these may be big, my default res for playing C3C is 1400 x 1050

Fun fun fun.

Settler factory running well, apart from the horrific 40% tax I had to go to at one point. 2 more sites on the inner core to settle, 1 for major food in the north and one for horse and spices in the south.

It's quite a food rich map. You should send the map maker some flowers. :)

Nice going, love the graphics.

Was having a nice day today until Barbu woke up in the frozen waste in Canada, opened his save, got his next tech and SGL'ed.

He came online briefly and we talked.

He just rushed the Pyramids in 1990BC [cry]

I'm gonna get him though.

@Paali - It will hurt [fdevil]

@PP - Plenty of food, from that pic above the warriors moved 1 square more and revealed another Wheat each! Also about the graphics, I can take that one of two ways. I'll answer both. 1400 x 1050 on my laptop is rather cool, work bought it for me [love]. The graphic set I use for C3C is the only thing I think I have in common with ERIKK, a love of the watercolour terrain.

IMHO, you can try to calm yourself and look on the bright side of the disaster. For example, what is Pyramids: just granaries in all cities. Well, assume that barbu built it brick by brick. If you go for granaries in all cities which need them, and you will have 7 cities, that way you spend same 400 shields and get very similar growth. It would be slightly less than barbu has but still possible to catch up. May be run 2 settler factories then or even 3 and build more workers. There is a huge amount of land to settle after all. On the other dark side of the problem, there is always a possibility of some wandering treacherous AI who wants to suck sweet Korean blood here on its own or being instigated by evil Russians and building 7 granaries would certainly mean remaining weak on the military side of things. But might be go for at least 3 granaries, probably 4 in the most food-rich cities?

I see someone loves spam!!!1! - that map has so much food it is no wonder that obesity has become a problem in the developed world.

Very nice dotmap as well - print it and frame it, and you have a cheap watercolor painting in the livingroom [crazyeye]

Well, assume you don't know how he got that thing. That would give you a good night sleep, now you seem to be agitated and worried.

I'm having same problem against Strictly Rockers who is playing agricultural Sumerians with Pyramids and I'm poor Sultan Ottoman. So, I've built many granaries in the core cities and was able to catch up somehow.

Why city 3?
And, most importantly, why not split up the location and build one city SE of the location you marked (4) and one NW of it.
Benefits:
- 2 cities next to river
- (4) is on ocean
- (4) immediatly includes the two bonus grasslands in the SE
- 2 cities instead of one which you can totally afford with all the bonus resources

Drawback:
- No super-city with 3 wheat, a cow and gold

Well, you probably have settled by now anyways...:)

Pastorius
20-04-2005, 23:29
Gotta agree in general - though the supercity you are going for now looks interesting [groucho]

I am learning resourcesharing myself, so I dont have much to add to what Markstar said. But if you havent already settled, I think you should consider it :)

It seems that landgrabbing might be more important at this stage than getting most out of the land which is available. The holes might be filled later imho. Certainly, no city can have 3 wheat in radius, that is too much. But preventing AIs from settling around might be critical. I'd to for a very luxurious build during this early expansion phase while leaving some space for additional cities once there are more workers and troops to support.

I was vaguely tempted by the gems in the north, but decided I will settle on the spot there aiming for my first ring being the first cities I build. I'm kinda adopting a X-O-O-O-X or X-O-O-X at worst.

Not thinking of much long term at the moment. I need to get my core chugging.

Roles.
Melistown = Settler Factory.
Fetchez la vache = Worker(poss future settler) factory.
Neverland = Warrior factory.
Wheatabix (to be settled) = worker factory.
My Little Pony (to be settled) = Military.

All Future cities = Military.

quick update.

Wheatabix and My Little Pony founded as indicated earlier.

Meet the English in the west and find Babs cities in the North.

Buy WC from Babs, CB from Lizzy.

The top one gets relatively more floodplains and desert, while the lower one gets relatively more grass or whatever is there.

So as you can see the Babs are at war with Lizzy.

I am equal on techs with Lizzy, but Babs is Writing up on me and wont sell it for love nor money (I offered +17gpt and he turned me down!).

Ho-hum about 6 turns from Poly. Hopefully he'll trade. Hope to have some barracks up soon. Will then start churning out horsemen and try and get a piece of Lizzy before the Babs finish them off.

F3 Mil Advisor puts me weak to Babs and Strong to Lizzy. So I had better hurry up there!

Damn has it really been this lon since I updated this place?

Quick recap. Totally crushed the English and switched Governments to Monarchy.

This, I can honestly say was the single most stupid thing I have done in this game and coupled with Barbu's pyramids, will lead to my ulitmate demise.

However this will not stop me trying.

I got to Chivalry and Babs didn't so I'm getting ready to kill him for the Great Library that he owns.

It maybe my only chance.

Barbu said he completed Copernicus' and the Babs are up invention on me.

I do have around 20 knights though.

Melifluous

Melifluous
30-05-2005, 15:38
Anyways a log of kinds.

OK We finally go for the big push. I had previously signed a RoP with Babylon and was planning on getting my troops into position and then breaking it. Barbu is more than 200 points ahead of me and I need to do something. Its lame, but it's my kinda lame.
So we have large troops (Knights) next to Babylon (muskets), Uruk(spears), Akkad(pikes) and Fulbar(spears).

Let's see how it goes.

Against Babylon
vKnight 4/4 vs 3/3 rMusket = 3/4 rMusket and retreat.
vKnight 4/4 vs 3/3 rMusket = 3/4 rMusket and retreat.
vKnight 4/4 vs 3/3 rMusket = dead rMusket and 1/4 vKnight.
vKnight 4/4 vs 2/3 rMusket = dead rMusket and 3/5 eKnight.
vKnight 4/4 vs 2/3 rMusket = 2/3 rMusket and retreat.
vKnight 4/4 vs 2/3 rMusket = dead rMusket and 2/4 vKnight.

We Take Babylon and The Great Library.

Against Akkad
vKnight 4/4 vs 3/3 rPike = 2/3 rPike and retreat.
vKnight 4/4 vs 2/3 rPike = dead rPike and 3/5 eKnight.
vKnight 4/4 vs 3/3 rSpear = dead rSpear and 3/4 vKnight.

We Take Akkad and it's Gem's

Against Uruk
vKnight 4/4 vs 3/3 rSpear = dead rSpear and 2/4 eKnight.
vKnight 4/4 vs 3/3 rSpear = dead rSpear and 1/4 vKnight.

We Take Uruak (Size 10) with it's Ivory (we have 2 already) plus it's Floodplain Wheat.

Few Battles outside Uruk.
vKnight 4/4 vs 3/3 rBowman = dead rBowman and 4/4 vKnight.
vKnight 4/4 vs 3/3 rBowman = dead rBowman and 2/4 vKnight.
vKnight 4/4 vs 3/3 rWarrior = dead rWarrior and 1/4 vKnight. [hmm]

Against Fulbar
vKnight 4/4 vs 4/4 vSpear = bowman attack! 4/4 vSpear and retreat.
vKnight 4/4 vs 4/4 vSpear = dead vSpear and 2/4 vKnight.
Now this is a little risky but sod it.
eHorseman 5/5 vs 4/4 vBowman = 3/4 vBowman and retreat.
Now reveals a 3/3 rSpear. Ho hum. That'll do it for this turn.

3 cities aint so bad.

Babs now only have Nippur, Ellipi and Eridu.

Will leave them with Nippur. Might be able to use their scientificness. I presume Barbu is doing the same with the Byzantines, he said he would ;)

Gonna have to think about defence as soon as the Babylon campaign is complete. Barbu told me he completed Copernicus' Shouldn't be too long until he tries to make it over. All I can hope is that the Pirates (and their damn privateers, they been building them all game, nice mod that ;)) dissuade him from the main attack. I hope to make it to the Industrial Age.

Not looking too good here, Barbu now 240+ ahead on score ;)

Still a win for him should boost his PBEM ego and a nice result in his very first one :)

This is show of your generosity, or lack of fighting spirit, or frustration over the inability to catch up masked as good wishes for the opponent?

Melifluous
04-06-2005, 18:05
And your point was?

I still will try and win this one of course. I he is stupid enough to let me get contact with the Byzantines or trades all his techs with the pirates or Babylon the Great Library will help.

If he tries to attack me en masse then I will repel his attempts.

I am merely paused at the moment trying to see a decent way forward, some constructive comments from lurkers would be useful however stupid and offensive comments are also encouraged ;)
