We are the people from the Northeast known as the Iroquois. We are a generous people with many dyes and plentiful food.

Running 90% on writing. 10g 0gpt
After 3 turns worker due next and will chop first. My thinking is straight to gran but wonder if I should squeeze a warrior in (accelerated production) for mp or barb protection (raging). Thoughts?

Nice start. Is it going to be a general objective to try and meet the other two civs as early as possible?

Grille
25-03-2005, 13:53
I think the other 2 civs are known already due to locked alliance (?). That is, you can see in the Persia thread, that Persia has already the 'D' showing next to the info box.

Iros have indeed the nicest start, at least since they're agri.:)
I assume you go for writing/philo at max science with them?
Btw, in case there's no barbs (?), I think I'd build a 2nd worker immediatelly, order a granny (prolly cut 1 of the forests to speed it up) and let Salamanca grow to 5 ASAP (i.e. have the neat 1/3-turn warrior/settler pump-o-rama).
Persia/Japan could eventually care of the granny-upkeep by sending few gold now and then, so Iros could spend all their commerce for research (and entertainment, resp).

Another tactic also very commonly used is to go straight to setler from here, then worker, then granny. The second setler should settle on the river near the Game.

You could have 2 settler or 2 worker or 1 of each factories if you chop the game, irrigate it, and mine some BGs. Like Grille said, Salamanca can be a combo pump with the nice amount of bgs.

2-turn settler factory?

Pastorius

Replying to the edited post above about building warrior or going for granary. Tip - it is much easier to follow discussion if you make new posts instead of editing old posts...

IMO, warrior is a good thing. Other people here are more likely to gamble (especially anarres, but not so much in civ, more in terms of poker)

Played 1nce in vanilla civ with AP - and IIRC, growth and stuff is fast, so MP duty and barb protection sounds good.

Whomp

Yeah good idea Paal. I think I can get a warrior in before chop finishes for gran

I grow next and warrior in 3.
Next to gran. Thoughts?

I'm at pop 3 and growing like a weed. Lux to 30% so writing slowed. I'm wondering if I send the warrior home till gran finishes and a settler popped?
Whatcha think?

Well, a granary is less important now that we have accelerated production on, but I'm not the expert to ask if it would be worth it.

Me either. I don't think I've ever played a game with it on.
I think PSV must've won a big game.

AP is a weird thing difficult to master. DaveMcW tried to organize the stuff and made a mod to get a better feeling of it and also devised some strategies. There should be a thread somewhere at CFC. But there are always problems of 4-turn research cap and worker jobs/troops movement, so it is complicated and surely is a very different game to play.

Don't consider it as a hint which it is not since I'm supposed to be very neutral in this game. But in my very limited experience (3 PBEM games), doubling the normal number of workers for non-industrious civs really helps a lot to cope with growth unless running low on gpt for their support. I would say 2.5-3 workers per fast growing city/settler pump and 2 workers for other core cities. With Industrious civs, it seems that 2 workers per settler pump and 1.5-2 for other core cities is more or less OK. And how fast the settler can get to its destination also matters a lot, so might be building roads to the projected city sites is not so bad idea. The value of this is zero however, since my experience is very limited.

Thanks akots. I will try to hunt down that thread. It's a little confusing and now I'm wondering if a granary was the best choice here.

Whomp

I found the AP article but it explains his mod but not AP so much.

Well after turn 9 I will grow next to pop 4 and gran in 4. Lux is running high at 30% and will likely go up another notch until I can hook up the dyes. 2 workers. The warrior went north and saw tundra and is on the way home for MP duty I'm thinking.

You sould've done a settler before the granary. Less luxury slider = more gold, and a second city will really help.

Haruka
22-04-2005, 23:48
And second city should go by the wheat, of course.

Ok here's the most current map. Hello RegentMan.
I was thinking the coastal forest between the game and wheat.
BTW this AP has got me completely confused. Virgin PBEMer. Thoughts?

I've always liked river cities more than coastal cities, especially with a non-SEA civ. If it were me, I would put it one tile SE of your spot, but that's just me.

Regarding AP, I think you should just play as normal - Everything speed-wise is relative, anyway.

Whomp
07-05-2005, 03:07
That's a good plan for my 2nd city. It's not critical to have a coast yet.

Whomp

Here's the current empire. The capital Stealth is knocking out two turn settlers. I'm trying to make sure I have enough workers with AP. The workers near Beware are preparing for a chop on the game. Currently it's on granary but I think I'll turn the city into a military pump instead. Now that horses have been located(where my archer is standing) Mounted Warriors will soon be on the loose.

BTW you should start making MWs soon. ;)

Whomp

Next city is on the horses. I think it gets the river and the coast.
I was debating on whether I should pump MW's or workers out of Beware.
Gran or rax? I should probably crank workers the way Stealth is popping settlers.
The workers are on the game [lol] ready to chop this turn.

We haven't seen an update for a bit so here's a little view of the situation.
Here's are the current demographics. We are the Persians, Japanese and Iroquois.
Stealth is the Iroquois capital and Sweet is the Japanese capital. New York is their Chinese capital.

Since it's been awhile I wanted to see the F11. Stealth is growing very quickly and looks to be a powerhouse. It's lib is paying massive dividends because construction would be due in 3 if I tried to give another city some of its tiles but with its power I will be able to get it 2. It looks like we may be able to start hooking up our empires as I see workers from Persia and Japan in the area and I should be able to link them up over the next few turns. I have excess dyes. Who needs them?

I have two settlers ready to plant next turn and my expansion will be finished. Military, markets, libs and workers. I'm kind of surprised I'm #2 in land area. All the other important categories are looking very good.

Hey SW. It's quite a bit different than standard because you have to increase the number of workers quite a bit. One turn workers were the staple for a long time and I still may need more.

Hey this was my first human vs. human military action. My galley sunk a Chinese galley. They have every country represented protecting their coast. Hopefully this diversion will allow Haruka to make a easier landing.

Turn 54--Things are looking good on the numbers for the Iroquois. With the newly added benefit of furs from RegentMan I can run lux at 0%. Engineering is due in two and I am pre-building the Great Lighthouse. I'd like to consider another suicide run but I think I'll try two galleys.

As far as the Russians go, the Chinese and Celts are to the west. The Celts and Greeks are weak compared to me and the Chinese are average.

We are beating them on score with:
Me at 468 in monarchy
Haruka Tomoyo at 325 in monarchy
RegentMan at 272 revolting now
The Russian team is
Celts at 386 in monarchy
Greeks at 250 still a despot
Chinese at 249 still a despot
Here's the aerial view of the empire.

Here's the landing. I'm not sure it will hold as there are 2 horses and 2 swords on the way. I simply want to knock out that warrior for my GA.
I sent over two more boatloads but they both sunk. :(
BTW I wondering if the GLighthouse is worthwhile as a build. It will obsolete when we get magnetism. I may switch to Sun Tzu or Pyramids instead.

I'm hoping to simply survive the onslaught and whack the warrior. There are 2 horses and 2 swords not in the picture that I uncovered moving the boat.
