This is the re-match between ERIKK and me. We again choose industrious civs. ERIKK is Carthage (with that strange and expensive UU) and I'm China.

Around my starting position I see a lot of jungle - after moving my worker and settlers. That worries me.

Turn 28:

Korea has contact with ERIKK! I don't have the money and neither has ERIKK. So we won't meet.

Turn 29:
I bought contact with ERIKK for 1 gpt and 12 gold.

ERIKK and I trade:
He gets CB, Warrior code and pottery for Writing, 7 gold. We also agree on peace until we both get to the middle ages.

I don't give him contact with the Celts though. They lack writing and have other stuff to sell :D

Aggie

Turn 30:

Damn, someone beat me to the deal with the Celts. ERIKK doesn't appear that person. Or he plays tricks with me [:o]

anarres
18-04-2003, 23:27
If he has writing then surely he just bought contact with the Celts himself? [???]

Aggie
18-04-2003, 23:35
anarres, he told me that he didn't have contact with them when I suggested to place the histograph in the open thread (knowing the same civs). He corrected it later and thought that I sold the Celts that contact.

But he could be fooling me [tongue]

Turn 38:

This is my empire. Acquiring the wheel showed me that I've got horses close by. Just look at all that jungle :(

Turn 59:
Quite a lot happened in this turn. I managed to buy philosophy from the Koreans for 15 gpt and 50 gold. I was 2nd with that knowledge. The other civs were very willing to pay a lot of techs, wm and gold for it. Now I have tech parity, except for mathematics that I'm behind vs the Greeks. They are at war with everyone but the Celts however. With a little luck I'll be 2nd with this tech (9 turns to go on 10%).

Here's the world map. We don't know the Ottomans yet. ERIKK is in a shitty situation [}:)]

Propain made our lives difficult. We both don't have iron in our territory at the moment:

Not wishing to criticize, but did you just build your first three cities away from fresh water ?

Aggie
21-04-2003, 07:15
Ehm.... yes I did. I'm an idiot. What was I thinking? I was so confused by all the desert that I didn't look at that anymore when I tried to get decent spots.

Aggie
21-04-2003, 12:24
Turn 68:
I managed to get math as third nation. The Greeks and Celts are at war with the rest of the world, so I managed to get a good deal and Literature from it.

I'm advanced, no other civ has more techs than I have. ERIKK lacks 6 or 7 techs that I have...

Aggie
21-04-2003, 21:57
Turn 84:
I acquired The Republic and Construction, went in to anarchy and got:

http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/uploaded/aggie/2003421215643_AgEk84anarchy.jpg

A bit unlucky. ERIKK however is about 7 techs behind [eek] What is he up to?

Turn 114:

About 5 turns ago ERIKK took out 3 Egyptian cities. Egypt was the main power in the world, but at war with everyone but me and the Celts.

The Celts were weakened by the long war vs Korea and I decided to take the opportunity. Now I have an extra luxury:

http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/uploaded/aggie/2003427175838_AgEk113Celts.jpg

ERIKK is still a despot by the way [eek]

Aggie
03-05-2003, 22:28
Turn 141:

Without warning 60% of my cities goes into disorder [eek] I have no explanation, but accept it. I decide that I must make a trade and so I call Greece. I got two luxes for 1 plus 13 gpt. After that, I MM a bit and everything is fine. Or is it?

Turn 142:
AGAIN WITHOUT WARNING the same cities go into civil dosorder [cry]. I immediately check if ERIKK got a trade embargo, but that is not possible. The deal with the Greeks was no more! So I make exact the same deal as in turn 141 and do the same MM actions. I know that this is another turn, because my galley is somewhere else.

I just lost two turns [confused]

Here's the deal in turn 142:

Aggie, if a city riots unexpectedly zoom to the city and use the left/right arrow keys to check the others. This way you only ever have 1 city rioting max. :)

Aggie
03-05-2003, 22:38
Turn 143:

It happened AGAIN. Three turns wasted. When is this going to end? THIS IS A BUG!!!

I can still make the deal:

We re-started the game at turn 139. Jut before everything went crazy.

Aggie
04-05-2003, 18:26
Turn 145:

I had no troubles this time.

And this turn I made use of the Great Lighthouse I captured from the Celts:

http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/uploaded/aggie/20035418257_AgEk1444otto.jpg

I made a lot of money selling the contact and my new world map. The world map was obtained from the Ottomans by selling Code of Laws :)

Aggie

Turn 149: I'm at tech parity after making a 2fer1 with Greece and Egypt. A couple of RoP's added a bit of money to the treasure.

In the mean time I'm building up my army. I may take out a Roman city to trigger the GA. But probably a GA is better planned in the early industrial age.

anarres
04-05-2003, 19:43
Aggie, IMHO the GA is best as soon as you can, after you have changed to Repulic (or heaven forbid Monarchy).

Aggie
05-05-2003, 07:04
Thanks anarres. I'll have to make sure that I'm strong enough. So I have to order a couple of riders.

Turn 155:
Rome just got a few cities north of me, far away from the capital. So these are corrupt cities that I gladly will capture to ensure that the eastern part of the continent is mine.

Aggie
07-05-2003, 21:28
Turn 155 to 165:

- Found a few cities
- Keep up in tech. At this moment only Rome and Greece are doing something you can call research. The rest is lagging.
- Build up an army

Turn 165:

I've got about 15 riders and still a deal going on with ERIKK (until turn 170).

Then this appears:

That's funny, because I was perparing an invasion in the northeast myself.

I happily stick to that plan:

My income jumps to 110 gpt, allowing me to by gunpowder from Greece.

Aggie
09-05-2003, 22:37
Turn 173:

The last town in "New China" is captured. I get this as a bonus:

Here's my newly conquered land:

Having reached my goal, I make peace with the Romans. They give me a great discount on Navigation with it.

hehehehe

Aggie
10-05-2003, 00:14
Turn 175:

ERIKK seems to dislike my recent progress, so he decides to buy MA's with Rome and Greece vs me. These are the two strongest nations of the world. My income jumps to 315 gpt, because Greece was my biggest trading partner. That idiotic country loses 120 gpt from me and I bet that ERIKK only payed something like 15 gpt. The AI is plain stupid.

Let's see if I can resist the Greek forces for about 5 turns. The Romans were no threat the last time, so why should they be now?

Aggie
10-05-2003, 09:12
Turn 177: ERIKK now also has Korea and Egypt join the war. Since Korea and Egypt are weak, he only does it to prevent me from trading. Luckily I have a lot of luxuries myself. I haven't seen a single Greek unit yet. I already had a bolster vs the Greeks (they can't be trusted anyway) and now i'm sending reinforcements. I try to defend myself and make peace ASAP. But will not hesitate to let the Greeks feel what they are up to.

I'm not going to reverse the situation and have MA's vs him. I hope that ERIKK respects that. If not, no problem.

Aggie
10-05-2003, 11:32
Turn 180: ERIKK surprises me. He decides to join the war. My saltpeter town is in immediate danger. To prevent war weariness (the town is lost), I abandon it:

http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/uploaded/aggie/2003510113119_AgEk2180abandonsaltpeter.jpg
10.03*KB

I retreat. If ERIKK has more knights coming, I'm in deep trouble. I could fight ERIKK if he were alone, but Greece is also very strong.

Aggie
10-05-2003, 12:36
Turn 182:

I managed to make peace with Rome and Greece for a small sum :). I lost one city and also had to raze Mycenae. But the tactic of retreat payed of.

Now I COULD pay Greece and Rome to attack Carthage. However, I thought that I had a deal with ERIKK that we shouldn't get a new MA after peace. ERIKK thought that I meant: after 20 years, when the MA's are officially over. I meant right after peace. ERIKK agreed, but now says that he will renew the MA. Having played the last 5 turns with the other interpretation in my head, I don't know what to do now. Get my own MA's or keep the peace...

jack merchant
10-05-2003, 12:45
Get them against him - no new MA after peace is now new MA after peace, so you need to prevent ERIKK from doing that. Call it self-defense ;)

Aggie
10-05-2003, 12:52
I hope to be able to talk it out with ERIKK. I hate the idea of having to get a MA, because ERIKK and me misunderstood each other.

anarres
10-05-2003, 15:24
lol, how many time have I said that all treaties should be stated in public to reduce these kinds of problems.

Aggie, I suggest you just get the MA's against him. PP has shown me how effective this can be.

Aggie
11-05-2003, 11:02
So we decided to ban MA's vs the other human player. ERIKK will continue the war vs me. In my view this is not pleasant for ERIKK. However, I was able to get MA's with Greece and Rome, making it impossible for ERIKK to approach me. Now his ROP's stay in place.

Aggie

But now the question is: is ERIKK going to get Military Tradition soon? I haven't got the income and also had to abandon my saltpeter city.

Aggie
15-05-2003, 18:10
Turn 192:

Luckily I was able to buy Military Tradition from Korea. I had to pay 60 gpt and wines. It appears that ERIKK had it already! It's a good thing that the upgrade from riders to cavalry is only 20 gold.

Aggie
08-06-2003, 11:34
Turn 216:

I managed to buy Steam Power from the Ottomans for 123 gpt and a luxury. ERIKK is in anarchy and doesn't have SP yet.

Aggie
08-06-2003, 21:56
Turn 228:

The war vs Korea progresses very well. And I managed to carefully steal industrialization from Greece :) ERIKK doesn't have it.

I'm quite far with railroading my land. I believe that ERIKK and meare very close in production and money-making. But Greece is a mighty force and Rome and the Ottomans are also very strong.

Aggie
12-06-2003, 08:08
Turn 232:

ERIKK invented Electriciy and traded it around for huge sums. I however have to buy things for a high price. I'm in trouble :(

Aggie
20-06-2003, 17:56
Turn 248:

I was able to buy Electricity and Replaceable Parts from the Ottomans for a large sum, about 200 gpt.

The Romans lack rubber :D. Also the AI doesn't have Scientific Method yet. They do however have Steel and Refening at least.
