Saw news from the game Humankind recently, and Beam mentioned it in another thread. Game is due 2021, and it is developed by a Parisian game studio. Just read that thread about Endless Space from 2012 (Shabba), which was their first game.

Anyway, reviews of the alpha say it can become a real challenger for Civ.

Civ6 is still one of the most played games on Steam, and civ5 still has half of that number of players. Amplitude's games have a more niche appeal, I doubt they'll actually challenge Firaxis. But as far as making a more enjoyable game, well, how hard can it be...

Are you only considering Civ's latest iterations (5 and 6) here, or the whole series?

I've had a lot of fun with civs 1 through 4. Civ5 and 6 are just too easy. I could go into detail, but right now I have to work. I think I've put my thoughts on them in a thread somewhere here...

It was supposed to be released this week but for balancing purposes it has been postponed to august. A pity but on other hand no need for another PTW disaster.

There is an OpenDev available for pre-orderers and as I couldn't resist the need to purchase it I just played my first couple of turns. Looks nice but hey this is strategy so who bothers with estethix.

From what I've seen of it it does sound interesting, but balancing could screw up a lot. If they've just decided to postpone launch that isn't a good sign.
