Contact with the Aztecs. They lack Masonry, Iron Working and Myst. Met 4 of the AI already and techbrokering has been easy so far. Minimap (anar is SW of the crosshairs).

So we are really on opposite sites of the world.

2 turns to complete Phil and meeting anar did not show a sudden change in needed turns. So I'm hopefull of being their first.

Turn 56: Phil run completed, Mapmaking choosen as free tech.

Turn 57: Aztecs have Phil. as well. [tongue]

The land is, well, not good and not bad. Neighbour Maya has much lesser terrain from what is scouted and Sumeria on the next island is quite good.

So any short term plans of removing Palenque from that location? it is terribly close to your core. I would seriously considder an archer/horsemen attack. raze it. replace it. make peace.

They did a good snatch indeed. I suspect they popped a settler or city from a hut as Palenque was there very early in the game, hadn't even seen the location when that city was build.

I've indeed been thinking about attacking it but the archers need to do some barbclearing first. (Setting is raging).
