View Full Version : Kemal offers some Deity-maps

Okay, the topic title can be abbreviated to KoD ;), and it does involve SP maps, but that is where the comparison ends, as beforehands I'd like to state this is not meant as any form of competition at all.

Recently, after more than a year of almost solely playing PBEM, I picked up SP games again, in the form of totally random generated epic game maps. Now, usually the rng is not very good at creating maps, a drawback that all that play SP probably suffer from, making maps either quite easy, or totally unplayable.
However, sometimes the rng actually does a good job in presenting surprising and challenging maps, and I thought it might be a nice idea to make the maps for some of my own personal best SP experiences openly available, so others who might want to start a SP game again some day can enjoy them too.
Of course, one could just as easily start a new map from scratch as well, on the other hand, since the map is totally random, playing maps I post here is actually more or less the same thing, and you might just be in for either a good laugh at what Kemal thinks is a decent SP map while it actually stinks, or perhaps face a great SP game experience instead. :)

As said, this is in no way a competition at all, like the real "KoD", just an effort to try and spread some of the imo better computer-generated challenges for others to enjoy.

First two maps in this topic (perhaps I'll add some more later) have been generated using the following input for the rng generator:

Large Map,
Sedentary Barbs,
Deity difficulty,
7 random AI opponents,
*All* other parameters random,
Standard rules, except no culturally linked starting locs. SGLs enabled, 1.22 c3c.

And here is the starting loc of the first map, played with Greece (as said randomly chosen):

And here is the save:

2077.79*KB

Kemal's rating: Tough (I haven't finished the game yet as we speak, btw).

And the 2nd, played atm by Eldakkar, as Persia:

2079.96*KB

Kemal's rating: Tough

As said, it is not a competition at all, no such things as spoilers etc are required or requested, though it would be very nice to hear whether people played the map as well, to hear what they thought of it, and best of all, how they approached the game. :)

Hehe. Paal's comment: Kemal speaks in 3rd person mode...

Very good effort if I may be frank.

Actually, I am not...

Playing turn 50 or so from the first challenge and it is great! the land is harsh but immagine the production once you get to republic! Need a load of workers though. Did you finish it kemal?

Kemal

No, playing it as we speak, and indeed production is quite good, I agree.

Very nice thing to have.

Could you give us the random seed for the map generator if we want other civs/level?

Kemal

@barbu: Can that be acquired via the "last played map" option, or via another method? (no idea myself, to be honest..)

I'll look into that tomorrow, and post those here then of course, if I have them ready.

Just found this utility at CFC, it works fine.

The play last map option seems to play only the last created map and not the last played map.

I started the Greek game. Thanks for special delivery service, Kemal [goodjob].
46 turns played, someone just completed The Colossus.
Contacted one civ so far, these seem to do pretty well looking at their techs and the numbers on F8.
Agree with KR, the starting area seems to have quite some potential.

At last finished this SP [drunk]

It took long enough [xx(]

Spaceship victory in 1650 AD, 7970 points

Especially the fact that the starting location has no resources whatsoever nearby from horsies to uranium/aluminium makes the map pretty difficult. It's a great map if you like a 107 hour game [thumbsup]

Hmm, Spaceship in 1650 AD... you did take your time indeed. ;)

Well done of course.

Finally this SP map has been completed (Greek game):

http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/uploaded/Kemal/200534194824_kodkemal.jpg
96.43KB

An environmentally horribly unfriendly pangaea map - which did provide great production in the end indeed - combined with no resources until steam power and only one lux nearby made this one quite a challenge, in my view.

To add to that, some of the AI, without any of my outside help, managed to reach the industrial age in 310 AD, with Korea having over 13K(!) lump sum money in stock at that time! [eek] [medic]

[eek] 56 hours for a game! And Eldakkar over 100!!!
Looks like I need a couple of years more practice till I reach your level.

So Kemal, what was the score?

Kemal
04-03-2005, 21:16
Final score was 11299 points, above average for me since like Eldakkar I usually prefer peaceful Space Race games (in SP, that is ;)).

The current save links don't work... can you reupload them just for a day or so, so I can get them?

Kemal

I'm sorry GA, I've lost the original 4000 BC autosave I'm afraid.. [sad]

I can recall sending them via mail to a few people, maybe they still have it..? Or else, perhaps some admin could fix why the original upload, which was succesfully uploaded at that time, isn't working atm (a problem all .sav files seem to suffer from).

Up/downloading zipped files should work and I still had the mail, so np after all.:)
Download Attachment: icon_paperclip.gif Conquests Autosave 4000 BC.zip (http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/uploaded/Grille/20053710733_Conquests Autosave 4000 BC.zip)
51.03KB

I'm still stuck in turn 100 or so, can hardly keep up with the pbem schedule these days.:(
I'm really amazed about your rather early win, Kemal.[yeah] Considering my current situation in this Greek game, although it's still peaceful, I guess I should be lucky in case I survive...

Thanks Grille! Will give these a shot in ~2.5 weeks when I come back from vacation.

I can win on Demigod, so Deity shouldn't be *too* hard...
