Turn 21:

We started with 0 techs and I decided to start with Keramik because with that it is possible to build ein Nahrungslager! In research is das Rad and with that we will learn if we have access to Pferde.

Meantime the Domestic Advisor comments the happiness in Bavel.

This advisor has a very specific interest in Reiterei. [:o]

Unedited screendmup for a change as it nicely shows most relevant info. Not shown is the Military advisor (shall I post her as well?) where I just became weak compared to Rik. He doesn't have Eisenverarbeiting, Reiterei or Kartografie (IW, HBR, MM) so misses the core techs for Mil deployment in the AA but since I saw 2 vet Lanzenkampfer (Spear) and a reg Bogenschutzer (Archer) I have to assume he is betting on those 2 units. Those were spotted by a reg scouting warrior on a narrow section of the map btw and Rik threatened to attack the warrior but didn't do it. The warrior is fortified on a hill monitoring troop movements now.

Researching Steinmetzkunst (Mas.) as last tech for the time being cause it will be a loooooooong time to another relevant unit and Mas gives Walls and those are handy in the two cities I plan to build on the double choke Killer build in this fine map. Also cash will be required to upgrade Krieger to Swordies.

This 1vs1 is really interesting to play. No buffering AI, not even speaking about AI willing to be raped for techs. Small map is very good as there is room to expand but also early contact.

Focussing on Mil build up now, Kasernen are build everywhere, I plan to use Horsies for scouting and deep penetration and Swordie, Spear, Archer combo's as the core force.

hey, what is that shape in the middle of the minimap?

There seems to be a small island there. On the left side of the map 2 chokepoints are just visible, just found a 3rd one there. Planning to develop that area to the main line of defense. About to connect 3rd lux and there are 2 others in reach as well.

Rik went Republic [scratch]. He must love unit upkeep. I'm going to help him with that [evil].

My battleplan is centered around a stack of 12 Swordies that will move over land to his area. Hopefully this will lure forces away from his core. A few turns later Galleys will land another stack on his gem mountain which is in the core. Some horses will be in that stack as well. From there we'll see.

Started the war last turn, this will give him some war happiness of course but as soon as more of his units are killed / cities captured this will change. The overland stack is on the move and the naval force is preparing.

Are you planning "kill him now or lose everything" assault? Or will still be researching and expanding at least a bit?

Beam

Mix of both. Vast majority of troops is involved in the assault, research is still going on. The distance between Rik and me over land is considerable and he can't deploy troops overseas (which can change of course). So the 2nd wave can either move into the offensive or act defensive if everything goes wrong. Keep in mind that Desp allows drafting and WW is none.

Have to try to land on another mountain there.

Meantime battles by the overland force resulted in 6 Swordies vs 6 Spears. Although this looks like Germany lost 60 shields the real benefit is that each unit lost by America drives them further into WW.

Invasion attempts haven't been very good until now, the RNG was good for the Yanks and not so good for the Germans. 2 stacks were send and both massacred. The 3rd stack changed things a little as it managed to eliminate a yank stack and capture a settler. There only were some Pult hits last turn and this maybe means America has passed 1st level WW as they don't want to risk losing units.

Meantime question of the day. How many units can be lurked by 3 empty Galleys? [lol]

Riks spoiler must give all info about maps stats etc. so not going to spend a lot on that.

The main differentatior in this game imo is that Rik decided to go for Rep and I decided to stay in Desp. Call it a gamble for faster research/growth with upkeep and ww issues vs. the other way around.

Been attacking him until Pikes came on the table and right we are in some kind of armistice. I am sure he has set his eyes on Knights and maybe has an army.

Playing a more defensive war from now, each American unit killed drives them further into ww. Hopefully enough Pikes and Pults are around by the time Knights show up.

Until my blunder with the knights leaving the Kiss-area to go south, while not enough defensive forces were present, I could counter WW with only 10% luxuries. Even after you slaughtered me there I could stay on 10%. But the counterattack which cost me 1 unit, exploded war weariness and I had to increase lux to 30%. For a long time my gpt was about 180 gpt. 3 knight upgrades per 2 turns.

In the very last turn I had cities with WW up to 70%, with lux-slider at 50% (maybe even 60%).

Why didn't you go for my south? I was relatively weak there.
Or my wines and spices colonies? removing 1 lux from me would mean at least 20%, maybe 30% luxuries, cutting down research and cash.

In the end (and I predicted it in my spoiler, before the game) the Golden Age I had and you didn't made the difference.

I liked the game a lot. Thanks Beam.
