Demigod, Standard, Pangea. I am Egypt, KR is Zulus.

I have a nice start with 2 cows on bonus grassland. Thebes will be
a nice settler factory. First signs after settling was water on both
sites. This might be a chokepoint-ish game.

EDIT:
Turn 7: I sse blue borders: the Mayas are very close!

Time for an update. I am spending all my spoiler time in the Beam #6
game at the moment. But this game is now in turn 72 and loads of
things happened already. For a readout I recommend KR. He always
makes nice spoilers and as he was expansionistic he must know lots
more on the early game than me. Certainly on this map.

The map as in turn 72

Turn 72

KR is at war with the Ottomans at the moment. I bet his war with the
Incas ended already (he was sneak attacked a while ago) and the Otto's
are far away. No worries on his part I bet. He is strong, big and is
ahead in tech. He got an early settler and that must have helped him
a lot.

In the end turn of turn 71 I noticed 3 Maya warriors coming for me.
This turn I finished researching Math so luckely I could go for F1 and
swap some building cues... Math got me CoL, Poly and 260 gold. I spend
it on some embassies and got with all known AI's a ROP (including the
Mayas). The Mayas turned to Polite, maybe they wont attack...

The bottleneck

Anyway, this map sucked for me as my slow warriors got stuck in AI-land
and the passageways north and south got blocked by the AI. I only
met the Chinese just a turn ago, with a galley in the innersee. The
Russians and KR found me and my center scoutwarrior died by barbs
after meeting the Ottomans and Mayas early in the game. KR got an
embassy early in the game and played tech broker ever since. Oh, well
he won the Philo race but I won the Literacy race and the Math race.
This turn I caught up. I lack Monarchy but KR lacks Math. I think he
is halfway Republic by now.

I lack contact with the Incas and the Japanese. But am on my way! I
was building another galley on the other shore to bypass the Russians
north but that is swapped now for land forces.

Turn 109

YES!!!! I met the Japs this turn! Finally! [aargh]

I have realy grown and gotten strong last 30 turns. Meanwhile KR
stayed the same and got passed on score. He was building up a horse
force for grabbing the GLib in Cuzco. Unfortunally for him the AI's
already have Education while Invantion isnt researched yet (I have
it in 3 turns). I got to trading techs and luxes while KR isnt
trading at all apparantly.

His horse force isnt that big for attacking a city size 9 on hills
with 2 wonders in it. There must be at least 6 reg spears in there...

Turn 124
4 turns ago I attacked the Mayas (then I had 11 chariots and 22
knights). The Mayas are the strongest AI so I called in help from
Russia (anti-alliance), Chinese (nothern front) and the Ottomans
(western front). The Mayas showed there force in the 2nd and 3th
turn of the offensive by trowing in small stacks of 5 or 6 longbows
and loose swords and MedInfs. Because of my own large stack and the
help of the allies I am sure I will be anle to hold out for a while.
The Mayas bought the Incas against me but they are no threat to us.

So far I lost 6 knights, 4 war chariots and 4 pikes but killed many
more Maya units. Also, the HG., Pyr. and GW. are captured. The Gligh.
and Coll. are in reach.

Good work, but it seems KR also has done his bit of warfare over there. What are your plans regarding the fight you will have with him? Naval? Wait till industrial or modern age and pound him with tanks and bombers? And how do you expect him to treat you?

Dunno, it will prolly turn out an invasion like adventure. I have the Great Lighthouse now so
he is no threat for some time. Dunno how much time I need to kill the Mayas though - if it takes
too much time KR might be tempted. I think he has Astronmy now, when he gets Magnetism and I am
still struggling with the Mayas I bet he will go for it...

The attack on the Mayas is a pure drama... :(

- one in which 10 knights and 4 WC's are not enough to kill 4 pikes in
a city and to see in the same turn 4 Riders kill 4 Mayan pikes in
another city and capture it.
- one where a size 2 city with 3 pikes in it flips and 2 knights (the
retake guards) die in retaking the city on a reg spear.
- one where a size 2 city flips just when the turn before my retake
force are moved out of reach for the first time (a small risk I
thought). Because of the flip I cannot move my troops to Bonapak
becasue of the culture lines...
- but the above doesnt matter as I calculated the Ottomans had too
few troops (6 knights) to grab Bonapak (it's on a hill). I myself have
about the same size on troops but decide to wait (I know the dices)
and have the Otto's soften the defense. But nooooo, of course the
Ottomans take that city without any problem. I is the city with the
luxes goddamnit!
- 5 flips in 10 turns, 2 cities flip twice.

After the flip and pre movement:

That sucks, specially the flips and the silks. I assume Maya is almost dead now?

ERIKK

Well, game over, KR unloaded 12 units (8 cavs) in the homeland 1 turn before I finish MT and also
1 turn before about 25-33% of my troops got back in Thebes (also for upgrading).

It was to be expected of course, I just lost the race against the clock.

I cannot say I enjoyed this game. First there was the strange shape blockading my scouting ending
up on very late contacts with 2 AI's and then there was this Maya war that sucked big time.
In this game my fear for flips and bad dices has rissen to unknown heights.

None the less, we carry on! ;)

Good spoiler Erikk, even though you "are directing your spoiler-tiem to the beam-game".:D

Your war against the Maya did it for me. It took too long (and now I read why, RNG sucks sometimes he?) and that gave me a window to attack from the sea. Also, the Inca had no pikes but spears in their towns and that made it easy to take them.
As for the map, Expansionist is very good here. It gives enough time to actually bypass the chokes and meet the world. I liked the game a lot more therefore as frustrationlevels got by far not as high as with you! [tongue]

But I recommend your spoiler! ;)
