View Full Version : Rise of Rome PBEM "Peaky Seas"
This is turn thread for PBEM played based on Rise of Rome scenario in C3C 1.22.
Players:
Rome - Dell19
Macedon - Beam (Formerly Jack Merchant)
Persia - Stapel
Carthage - ??? (At present Metalhead)
Egypt, Celts, Scyth, and Goth - AI
We are currently looking for a replacement player and if the replacement player is another CDZ poster then this will become the new active turn thread where battle reports are posted.
Metalhead has said he doesn't mind being replaced and after several occurances of delaying the game where there was a reason but this wasn't given until PMs were sent asking what had happened to the save. The new Carthagian player would take over after several turns with troops in Sicily but with the Romans owning the only city on the island.
The current rules forbid signing MAs or MPPs with the AI nations, no ship chaining, abandoning of capitals, unit jumping and possibly some others that I've forgotten. Hopefully someone will be willing to take other since Carthage are still in the game.
Well, as things look now, We will continue this game in january WITH Metalhead.
Beam did you get the save?
We either all need to post in this thread or set up the other turn counter thread since at the moment I have no idea where the save is. I sent it again to Beam's new address yesterday.
I might very well have it. I will check tonight (and hopefully play).
Looks like me and Matrix will have a bit of action this turn.
I've asked Matrix to set up a turn tracker so that we can track the game from now on.
It appears I had played it, but not sent it....
Sent to Matrix.
I think that was the old turn. We should be on turn 20 or 250BC. I sent 255BC last which is after I had played turn 19.
I have not yet received a 255BC save from Beam.
Beam? I sent a PM a couple of days ago and the turn twice about 4 days ago.
Because I'm working in Paris the coming 2 months and have a lot of PBEMs going on I have to cut it a little. :( So I asked Dell today if he knew a replacement player for this game. Not planning to abandon other games as well, the Swimming Pool is the only other multi-human game I am in. Regular PBEMs will continue but slower.
I'm thinking of asking Rcoutme when I see him online as a possible replacement.
I will take the replacement slot. My email is Rcoutme at gmail dot com.
OK, I'll send you the sav together with an outline how the game has been moving. Thanks for taking this one!
Could you update the turn tracker, Matrix? Thanks
I played the game and sent it to Matt (Dell19) as I don't have any email addresses.
My e-mail addres is:
stapel AT civ3duelzone.com
Easy huh?

Could Carthage replay the turn unless both the Celts and Goths really did decide to offer an MA on the same turn.
Battle report turn 22, 245 BC.
Persian kill many Macedonians on hill near Hamadan.
-Persian army kills Macedonian Army, but goes from 12/12 to 3/12 :)
-3 catapults all fail to do some damage on hoplites :( .
-elite immortal kills 4/4 hoplite, but goes 4/5 :)
-elite immortal kills 4/4 hoplite, but goes 2/5 :)
-4/4 HC redlines elite HC :(
-4/4 HC kills elite HC, but goes 2/4 :)
-4/4 immortal kills itself on 3/3 hoplite. hoplite goes 2/3 :(
-4/4 HC kills 4/4 HC, but redlines itself :)
-4/4 HC kills 4/4 HC and promotes to 4/5 :)
-4/4 HC kills 4/4 HC, but goes 2/4 :)
-4/4 HC kills 4/4 HC, but goes 3/4 :)
-4/4 HC kills 4/4 HC, but redlines itself :)
-4/4 HC kills 4/4 HC, but goes 3/4 :)
-4/4 HC kills 4/4 HC, but goes 2/4 :)
-4/4 HC kills itself, but hurts Macedonian 4/4 HC towards 2/4 :(
All Persian Heavy Cavalry untis have attacked now. The slaughter will be taken over by immortals:
-4/4 immortal kills 4/4 HC, but goes 2/4 :)
-4/4 immortal kills itself, but hurts HC to 2/4 :(
-4/4 immortal kills 4/4 HC, but goes 2/4 :)
-4/4 goes 2/4, but the Macedonian HC cowardly retreats
-4/4 immortal kills 4/4 HC, but goes 1/4 :)
-4/4 immortal kills 4/4 HC, but goes 2/4 :)
-4/4 immortal kills itself, but hurts HC to 2/4 :(
-4/4 immortal kills 4/4 HC, but goes 2/4 :)
-4/4 immortal kills 4/4 HC, but goes 1/4 :)
-4/4 immortal kills 4/4 HC, it stays healthy :)
-Another immortals that stays healthy, unfortunately, the HC retreats
-4/4 immortal kills itself, HC goes 1/4 :(
-4/4 immortal kills itself, HC goes 2/4 :(
-3-3 immortal kills itself, no damage on HC :(
You won't hear me complain about results, but leaving those units on a hill next to my city, was what I had been hoping for. there is only a 50% defense, making it 3. Attacking with 5 and then with 4 really pays out :)

Haven't read this before. But I did replay, as you know.
And at least now I have an excuse why I lost with Rome and seem to loose with Carthage. [rolleyes]
The turn that you played was uptodate :)
I know Dell. With "haven't read this before" I meant I didn't know you posted it at this forum. Not important.

so?
explain please!
The Celts and Goths are close to Rome, but not to Carthage. Rome has two fronts half the time, when alliances with the AI are allowed.
I asked Stapel and he was asking whether the file he had just played was up to date or whether he needed to replay. Its been an odd PBEM because the turn thread has moved forums and so far we have had 3 player changes.
Well, if there are MA's with AI's it's the wrong, isn't it? But I thought you especially waited to play until I replayed, since I signed MA's.
Yes since at the start of the PBEM we agreed to not sign those treaties unless the AI offered them.
Where is the save anyway?
Turntracker sais Rcoutme.
Where is he?
His email on MSN is rcoutme AT hotmail.com if you want to add him and ask him where the save is if you see him online. Feeling ill recently.
It might be that another e-mail better be used which is rcoutme at gmail.com and this may be indeed the reason for lost save. But MSN is indeed what Dell posted.
The turn tracker sends to the gmail address, just checked and resent.
the turn should be moving again
I played and sent last weekend. I forgot to add I killed one Macedonian hoplite.
Anyone know where Stapel is lately?

Austria, or perhaps still in Munich
Hi again :)
Rcoutme sent the turn a few days ago so you should have it I think.
yeah. Been busy. I will play soon!
Rcoutme:
Battle reports would be nice :)
I killed a 3/4 HC of Rcoutme's.
BATTLE REPORTS PLEASE!!!!!!!!

Update your spoilers you lazy slackers! [rant]
:D
I might, I might....
Anyway:
I think we can continue, despite the Macedons dragging the Egyptians and the Scythians in to war with me.
Battle report:
In the northwest: Persian Immortal kills HC, goes 2/4
In the midwest: Persian HC kills wounded Macedonian HC, but goes 2/4
The Macedons have landed!
Battle of Antioch:
Persian HC kills Macedonian HC (2/4)
Persian HC kills Macedonian HC (2/4)
Persian HC kills Macedonian HC (4/4)
Persian HC kills Macedonian HC (2/4)
Persian HC kills Macedonian HC, promotes (5/5)
Persian HC kills Macedonian HC (4/4)
Now, I do feel lucky!
Yet, units with defense 2 are an easy prey!

Done :)
I've updated mine a little.
Since he has 15 HCs in my lands, you'd expect some haste. Interesting turns are coming.
The Macedon forces (a 4/4 sword, a 4/4 HC and two 3/3 HCs) south of Antioch have been defeated, without any losses for the Persians.
However, the main Macedon forces were north of Beirut. Thirteen Heavy Cavalries are lined up to take Beirut.
I can get 8 HCs in attack position. Three loose, five win. The Macedon forces now have five 4/4 HCs, one 3/4, one 2/4 and one 1/4 near Beirut. Beirut has 5 wounded HCs (3/4, 3/4, 3/5, 2/4, 1/4, iirc), and of course some more defense :) .
Sorry about not posting before, but nobody told me there was a thread in which to post...
I did not know that asking AI for alliance was banned, I will refrain from this in the future...again, sorry.
I guess, since Matrix did not ask for a replay, we can sort of count it as a bonus for my having to take over from somebody who does not understand tactics...

Well, different people, different tactics. When the game is over, you can read my spoiler and see what I think of yours ;) .
There is also a (non-written) rule you inform opponents of battle results. I always do so in this thread, but it's ok if you do so by mail.
I've been emailing mine lately.
The 1/4 HC died in a fruitless attack against Beriut. Total losses (including that one) are: Perisans 1 Numidian Mercenary (how did they get them, I thought those belonged to the Carthaginians...) and 1 HC. Macedonians: 3 HC and two more HC's redlined...

I think you need Ivory for Num mercs.
yeah there is some in the far east. Shame I missed that in my other RoR game until now...
All Macedon forces in Persian territories are killed.
I did cost me 1 elite immortal and 1 elite HC, though.
I have played the turn. Sorry for the delay but I was convalescent for 5 days.
Well, make that 23rd!
Will play tonight!
Byzantium is a Persian city!
I lost 9 HCs and got 12 retreats (or so).
Killed 3 of Rcoutme's hoplites.
I received something from the Turn Tracker, but it wasn't a savegame...
Will send manually tonight!
Took another city of Rcoutme's
I lost 7 HCs
I also crushed the puny force in the north, without losses (catapults are great).
Oh, and I got 2 leaders :D.
That may seem to be very lucky, but these are my first, after dozens of fruitless elite victories.
In case you're wondering how Genua became Carthaginian, I took the classic Hannibal route. :D (A teeny bit too late perhaps...)

Hey Matrix,
Not that things look good for you now, but such a move is always great!
By the way, I destroyed a city while we said we wouldn't destroy cities. (Didn't we?) I forgot, sorry about that.
I don't mind too much about the city. Was a bit annoyed when you suddenly decided to attack me with a huge force though. :)
Well...the Persians are coming, the Persians are coming! They are also taking all my freaking cities...
It's kinda hard to fight a war when your opponent sends more army units than you have and can build in a turn (since each city is limited to one build).
I hope Stapel enjoys the cash he's getting.[cry]
Dell really needs to consider updating his calendar (lol). 195 BC went by a long, long time ago...
Well...looks like all the trash talking has ended. Hmm...that was the only enjoyable part about taking this doomed empire...I wonder what's in store for me next.
Sometimes I forget to set the turn date.
Currently waiting for Matrix to play the next turn.
Are you? Oh damn, I hate being guilty of stalling a game. [xx(]
Yeah it lists Stapel as the last person to send a save.
Stapel do you have the save?
