View Full Version : 2v2v2v2 - Map Made (Beam)
Kingreno, Killer, Akots and I want a 4 player 2v2v2v2 demi-god level, no AI, no barbies, no huts game where each players starts with 2 civs on 'his' own island.
Linked alliences of course, and no alliences permitted between others.
Enter your civs of choice gentlemen!
I suggets we pick them 1-2-3-4-4-3-2-1
OK?
No SoZ, Templar and SGLs.
Another idea:
Same UUs for all palyers and seafaring, commercial, agricultural, and scientific traits.
No passing of cities allowed.
I'd like to limit difficulty to Demi-God and have the civs with at least some of the following traits: Commercial, Seafaring, Scientific, and Agricultural. And would hate to have civs with the following traits: Expansionist and Religious. Militaristic and Industious is neutral. Since apparently, all traits would be the same, and it is just a matter of civ name, may be Russia and America unless there are objections. :)
hehe!
I think we shouls agree that we all get one commercial&seafaring civ, with all the same UU picked by the mapmaker.
And we get a scientific&agricultural civ, aslo all with the same UU, again picked by the mapmaker.
Can we agree on that?

I liked the 1-2-3-4-4-3-2-1 pick more. It allows for more diversity.
I do not believe that balance should be that much compromised, but the same civs and the same start is boring imo.
ok, fien to me.
I rolled a dice:
Stapel
Akots
Killer
Kingreno
Kingreno
Killer
Akots
Stapel
Any civs excluded????
Just make sure that both civs are sequential to each other during the turnplay, so that there is no need to play the same turn twice with the second civ. Otherwise, seems fine. Though commercial couples best with agricultural and seafaring with scientific but this is a minor thing can be left to mapmaker. Or we can have some other variation of the traits. And please make the starting locations same for all ppls to ensure the balance. Be it all tundra or cow, at least first 21 tiles and their immediate surroundings have to be the same.

I will lurk this one for sure ! IMO the sequence should go like this : p1-p1-p2-p2-p3-p3-p4-p4, so that the game goes faster. And you guys should pick real Civ3 civs, by choosing all different civs (different trait combos available). I'm sure you can find 8 civs which lead to a fair game. And the UUs should be the original ones too. Just my 2 cents... :)
Please come to a conclusion about the open topics, iirc:
- Which traits
- Excluded civs
IMvHO:
Traits:
Either combinations of the four traits with Seaf+Scient (Russia with some UU but Cossack is apparently OK or any other unit with similar to Cossack stats and blitz attack (??)) and Agri+Comm preferred (Another civ with any name on it like America with an earlier - Chivalry decent UU like Ansar or Rider). IMO, UU can all have the same stats for balance. But I'll settle for Immortal or Gallic Swordsman type of UU as a first and Ansar/Rider as a second since we might have a not so fast tech pace.
Excluded civs:
This is unclear. Why we want to exclude some civs?

IMHO the civs should be untweaked. with 2vs2vs2vs2 you should NOT know what you are up against. That is part of the game. If you picked some all out farmer civ you could be placed on the same island as the Zulu. So no rocksolid reparation is possible.

Was that English?
I seriously don't get what you mean here. What does untweaked mean, and why should I want to repair things if I control a zulu and agri tribe?
Anyway: I'll pick the Iroquis as my first civ.
Akots: your turn to pick a civ.
Russia as seafaring and scientific. :) Or Byzantines as it is.

I don't think we can change traits, when we choose to select civs...
So Byzantines it is?
See no problem with changing traits but let it be Byzantines then. If AI can perform well with them, so should a human player. :)

so it is me now.....
Dutch!

Aztecs and Vikings please.
Just post a summary of the game you wanna play after everybody made his choices and I'll try to complete the map over the coming days. :)
I may have missed the maptype which is quite key in a game like this!
OK, since Killer is silent, I'll pick the Maya as the second civ. They will build workers for both civilizations. :)
IIRC, it was supposed to be archipelago with 2 civs of the same ownership sharing an island, a big island...

akots, I veto your choice. Sorry, but I can't be made to decide my second civ in 5 mins. I MUST be allowed to think about it for a day or so.

so, to get this confusing thread into a bit of order - is this correct so far?
stapel - Iro,?
akots - Byzantine, (Maya)
Killer - Dutch
KR - Aztecs, Vikings
if yes, then I want as my second Civ the Ottomans.
If this works out, Maya for akots is OK for me.

I am confused. I thought the plan was to have civ#1 on one island with one civ of another player, and civ#2 on another island with again another player...that sounded like a lot of fun and a lot of strategy. the prospect of "my own island" for two civs reduces it all a bit to a farmers gambit for all players...
I would like all to considded this.
As a side note I picked my civs with the setup mentioned above in mind.[sad]
Well, I thought it was the plan to have our private islands.....
Any opinions. I don't really bother!
I'd prefer having private islands. @Kingreno: if you made your choice you can change. It would be very messy if we start like you suggested. Especially with the Aztec. Nobody survives against the Aztec. [lol]

Akots: which also explains my wondering why you three took relatively peacefull civs[blush]
Since I was wrong in how this game was going to be played, I would like to ask you if I may change my civs to Sumeria and England.:)
Stapel: Iroquis, Koreans (do not switch off lethal bombardment)
Akots: Byzantines, Maya
Killer: Dutch, Ottomans
Kingreno: Sumerians, English

leathal omb on is fine with me, so is private islands as well as your change, KR!
I think it's ok like this!
I trust Beam can make a great map now!

These are the full specs? Standard map I assume.
Biq is ready to be launched, Passwords please! I'll launch it anyway tomorrow and assign pw if you did not PM one.
Game is well balanced but enough difference to find tactical advantages. And there are some fun parts as well. ;)
This map took me a lot of time (entirely handmade) so spoilers really are appreciated.
You know my password. Looking forward, should be an intense setup. :)
Waiting for Stapel, he jost got an sms ;)
Stapel replied, sav will be ready soon. ;)
Sequence: see Stapels summary. He sms'ed me his is seeing Killer in an hour [scratch] so a full turn should be possible tonight!
Here you go pals, have fun and keep us spoiled!

Small mistake, killer did not submit a pw so I got him one. Check PM!
My e-mail is akots at mail.ru or if it bounces from there use another one: akots at sbcglobal.net
Thanks a lot for mapmaking! I hope this is as funny as all the others you've made! [fdevil]

beam: thanx!
I was under the assmuption that you knew my usual PW ;)
This looks really interesting, hope you guys will entertain the lurking crowd with regularly updated spoilers.:)
Sent to Akots!
I have named it 2v2v2v2_001a.
I suggets Akots loads it, plays his 2 turns, and then saves it as 2v2v2v2_001b
Then he should send it to Killer, who should call it 2v2v2v2_001c and send it to Kingreno, who should send 2v2v2v2_001d to me.
This may sound a bit overdone, or even neurotic, but it's easy, I think!

Agree on your naming proposal Stapel.
On another issue...which pace are we on here? one turn a day even remotely managable? I have yet to recieve turn one...

I am OK with the naming, though to be honest I'd prefer to give the turn number and add 'to player name - otherwise I might mix things up ;)
Thnx for the spoilers so far ppl, feels good to see you got the game moving and and read your plans. ;) Keep on posting!
