Here is my teo settlers start:

I think settling on the tobacco is agood idea. One extra commerce from the start seems nice! But first of course, the worker move to the BG tile east. Hey, what do I have hanging on my bicycle now:

I move the other settler to the hill southwest:

I move the first settler to the tobacco indeed. I think the 2nd setler will go south and then a bit east to catch the cow south AND the floodplains (right?). I'll see what rivers are there.

The first settler indeed settled on the tobacco. The 2nd settler went south and east and east, ans settled there. The flloodplain (you can see the borders) had wheat on it. there is also plenty of BG tiles. This 2ns city will become a settler factory. Rome will make 2 or 3 warriors first. I hope to meet the 2 AIs asap, and trade for pottery. City 2 will start pre-building for it!
BTW: two tile south east of the most southern cattle, is another. These two will be used for city 3 or 4, depending on what I will reveil later.
I haven't seen any luxuaries yet.

Yeah that would make up for the bad start.[mischief]

What are the specs of the map?

What are the specs of the map?
- Conquests 1.22
- Emperor, with both of us starting with an additional settler
- Tiny map
- Pangea
- 70% land
- Random climate and age
- Restless barbarians
- No Statue of Zeus please

Civs:
- Stapel: Romans
- Shabbaman: Celts
2 AI with early UU

We'd like the AI's to be placed somewhat between us, so with us at both different ends of the continent.

Turn 25:

2nd city will be 4 turn settler house. The settler is in the right spot for city 3 and will make workers. I did a max-speed on writing. Should be there in 4 turns.

w00t.. Who did you bribe to get this start? ;) or is the same as shabba's?

I find this starting area to be really interesting to play ! :) You have much mountains and hilly places, marshes to handle, a floodplain river to use, many cows to grab quickly, much gold-like tiles. All in all, many possibilities, as for the settling order, the production or commerce priority, the things you're gonna build first (units or improvements or wonders). I hope you're having much pleasure to play this one, Stapel, that game looks like fun ! [cool]

As for advice from my poor level, I'd say you should complete your 1st core first, and emphasize more than usual on workers, since you're not industrious and the landscape needs more force to tame, AND because you have many food bonuses (making you able to build more workers which will then improve the tiles you'll quickly gain).

I decide to head for republic. After that, I don't think I will research anything!
Shabba still doesn't know how to write!!!!

This is my realm in turn 92:

Shabba is at war with the Greeks, and he has wounded Celtic warriors, so he must be in a GA.

I have republic in 3, and will change gov asap. Then I will trigger GA, by getting that Greek city on my semi-island.

Then I will head with 40 legions to Shabba!

Shabba still lacks writing; I have philo, CoL, literature, mapmaking and republic in 3.......

There appears to be a flip chance in 10 turns of 96%......

A few battles later, it is mine:

Turn 131!
I told Shabba I wanted a city, are would declare war. Two legionary armies and 30+ legionaries are near his border.

I found a stack of GWs outside his city on a hill. I decided to move in all legions and stake out two elite GWs on the mountain. It almost costed me an army [eek].
This how things are after the battle:

BTW, a few turns back, I've stopped legionary production, and switched to horsies, once to be upgraded to knights.
