I don't know how I exactly got talked into this, but I'll give it a shot. Tiny map, 2 AI (carthage and greece) and Emperor (quite high for me). Oh, and Stapel.

Starting position: scouted and moved, to get the

Scouted and moved, to get the cow for my capital. Some questions: I expect this game to run fast, so is it worthwile to go for a granary in my capital and build a settler factory? Should I do the research myself or stockpile up cash and let the AI do the work? I need iron working, and I need it fast! Killer made the map, and I'm pretty sure that evil bastard hid the iron for me on some impossible spot [estwing]

shabba, this is a fair map - I am not mean.

I won't say more.

I'd build the city exactly where you are now. But don't ask me how to make a settler factory. :-X But I would in any case make one a.s.a.p., since on a tiny map it's very important to build cities a.s.a.p., I think.

I've build the city one tile NE. That way I got the cow in the "bonus" culture expansion, and enough space for the capital and on the inside of the ring. I'll build the rest of the cities with only nine tiles for each city. I think.

Wow! There is really a lot of food here. Looks like you can have 25-30 cities before 1000BC! Or whip a decent army and go rampaging around about the same time. If you can grab everything: cows, game, wheat, flood plains ... You can be fine probably even without settler factory. Just build settlers and workers in all these cities. And capital can be used for barracks and warriors. Wow! Indeed, lots of food. :)

25-30? It's a tiny map... ;)

Turn 44: Stapel and I make contact.

http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/uploaded/Shabbaman/200492194813_shabbavstapelturn44.jpg

Something went terribly wrong. Stapel made contact with both AIs by turn 15 or so. So far, I've only met the Greeks: of course I had sent out a scouting unit immediately, but I saw the greeks to the north, so I scouted to the south. A. Lot. Of. Empty. Land. There. Oh, no goody huts either (although killer might have disabled those). The consequense: Stapel offers me masonry, wheel, warrior code, alfabet, philo, CoL. Sooo... The greeks somehow don't want to sell to me. Weird. I guess they can ask big bucks since I hadn't contacted anybody else (before this turn).

Turn 80: stack of 3 greek archers moving my way!

So mister stapled has a bit of a tech lead on ya?

By the look of the cows grazing in the south, I think the "evil bastard" really likes you ;)
I suppose you can beat the greek stack, no?

Other noteworthy stuff: you have iron damned close, and LOTS of luxes. I am surprised you arent a hugeass powerhouse allready. How is stapel doing compared to you?

From what I've seen of stapel's territory, he has exactly the same land as I do. My guess is that killer inverted and copy pasted it.
I'm confident that my gallic swordsmen can take out the greeks easily. This would trigger my GA, in despotism, unfortunately. The mountains can form a bit of a problem though. I think I'll have to claim them first.

Turn 83: killed three greek archers. Now in GA. A phalanx and a bowman also coming my way, let's see what they can do v.s. three fortified gallic swordsman on a mountain. My guess: they move into the desert next to it...

Stapel got the great lib.

good to see this one still going! It was a real bother to make the map - copy&paste doesn't work! So each tile you see 'the same' in stapels land was HAND-selected to be there.....

Ah, good old fashioned handwork... [:O]

Turn 96: after I razed a greek city I make peace. I receive 160 gold plus writing.

Turn 109: well, I have this pretty army and I have nothing to do. I think about razing that Carthaginian city northwest of Mooh that's keeping me from completing my second ring. If I raze some of their cities, perhaps I can extort them the republic.

Turn 131:

I have a little problem.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/shabbavstapelturn131.JPG

As you might or might not see in this crappy picture is the two annoying armies. I have a total of 19 celtic sword and 25 spear (only good v.s. tanks, I hear), so technically I'm screwed. Obviously I don't want to give up that easily, so I'd like some suggestions to go down with a bang.

Suggestions other than "settle on a one-tile island" please.

P.S. Fix that fcking upload!

hmm, perhaps a stratigic retreat to those mountains W of Rijkburg? Probably gives up a lot of territory, but can't tell without a new map.

Anyways, those armies will attack/defend with a value of 4 = (3 + rounddown(3x3)/6), but that's 23 Legions + 2 Armies. Only thing you can hope for is that he doesn't have a 2nd wave, so if you force him to attack spears on well defended land (hills, mountains, walled cities), and then counter with GS's while he's on shitty land, you may have a chance. Problem is that there's 26hp's of Armies to get thru before you can start killing Legions. My guess is that you'll need about 40 GS's to wipe out that stack, but that's just a gut feel, no calc's. Can you upgrade any warriors? Pull some AI in against him? Is a resource disconnect/reconnect allowed? If so, can you get some money quick for upgrades? (each warrior-> GS upgrade costs 3*30 = 90g)

Unfortunately there's not much AI left. As I saw this coming I built roads on some of the mountains. I knew bas had a leader, but I didn't know he had two. I wasn't that lucky...

Stapel attacked and killed two of my elite warriors who were fortified on the end of the mountain range. I didn't attack, my chances are better on the mountain.
