View Full Version : Bizarre conquests bug?

Today my jaw dropped. I had never heard of this bug, but it's truely bizarre. The year is 1735 a.d., the game is practically won (by me ;) ). I've been keeping good relations (and trade) with all nations (ok, not with the ones on my continent, they're down to one city on a nearby island), especially with the greek. Now, we all know some backstabbing by the AI, but this is really, really dumb. I've got a tech lead of about 7 techs, 4 tank armies, and so on.

But hey, I'm not complaining about backstabbing. Check what happens.

The before pic:

World map (see? I'm the orange blob in the middle. With tanks. And mech infantry. 4 tank armies, 3 cavalry amries. They're WEAK compared to me. Would you attack?):

Ah. The Greeks sign an MPP with the celts. Good for them. The Greeks destroy the Mayans. Well, the Mayans weren't smart enough to trade with me to start with, so whatever.

WTF? The Greeks declare war on me? A frigate attacks the submarine in the picture. Of course, the sub wins.

Then, the next frigate in the stack attacks the pikeman! Seriously!

And then the next one, and the next one! And even a galleon takes a shot!

The pike gets promoted! From an attack by freakin' frigates! A PIKE!

See? They're all dead. Suits them right.

This is a single player game, large map, default rules, C3C latest patch. I've attached the save so you can see for yourself.

Lucky you! Up to now I only heard of this bug, but never experienced it...

And they weren't even at war with the hittites... I guess that they wanted to move through my submarine (which they can't see, obviously), which triggered some irratic behaviour.

I knew all along that the AIs cheat! ;)

I see in the CFC bug report forum that moving through a submarine triggers war. A confirmed bug. I can't find anything on attacks by sea units on land units.

It's certainly there shabba:

The bug forum is a spamfest and the stickies are not updated anymore afaik.

imho, cfc has deteriorated a lot recently, and I doubt the programmers have time to look through all those "reports" :(

CFC is still great, but only in sections like Succession Games, Game of the Month. The hardcore players are there. General Discussions and Conquests fora repeat the same old newbie shit every 2 months. Urban Legends that are long gone get a new life there.

If you have a suggestion how to prevend that, we're eager to hear it!

The bugs forum not being updated is because we have a secret forum with only the serious testers, because it's far too much to read. That's why the old bugs forum is somewhat neglected. Secondly, I don't think there will be another patch. http://www.straland.com/images/smilies/undecided.gif

If you got a secret forum and are neglecting the open forum, it'd be better to just close it. This gives members the idea that they're doing something useful, whilst they're not.
My suggestion for both the conquests and strategy&tips forum: close them. Or begin to moderate them and actually move threads from and to these forums.

On another not matrix: where's the save?

Then CFC should not fool 'us' and close the bug forum. I know about the test forum and I think it creates an elitism far beyond the post count issue. Don't know how to solve that. I indeed have a suggestion for GD and Conquests forum. Update the FAQ (not done since...half a year or more) and add a new sticky thread with all misconceptions and an explanation how it REALLY works.

EDIT: Great minds think alike [love]

Heh...

I've suggested that the faq should be updated. Turner replied that I was free to do it (actually, he suggested that it'd be a good idea if I'd do that).

Indeed. The mods in CIV3 are great to keep things in check (not difficult compared to OT). But they do nothing more than that :(
