Well I received this in the mail from Dogboy and just had to post it.
I understand that this windswept corner of the forum little has been kept up to date, I hope that this post will start a growing settlement in the desert.

This is a 1v1 ladder game between myself (DogBoy) and Maverick. I don¡¦t know what kind of player Maverick is so I don¡¦t know what to expect. These are the game parameters:
Map: small
Barbs: sedentary or roaming, not sure
Level: monarch
Players: DogBoy and Maverick. I went Random and Maverick picked Carthaginians or Greece.
AI: 5 random
All victory conditions enabled
Accelerated production: OFF
Land mass: random

Melifluous made the map for us. When I started the game I found the following.

AI: Zulu (militaristic and expansionist with a decent extremely early UU)
AI: German (militaristic and scientific with an awesome late UU)
AI: Roman (militaristic and commercial with a good early UU)
Maverick: Carthaginians (commercial and industrious with a very good early UU)
AI: Mongols (militaristic and expansionist with a good semi-early UU)
AI: Korean (commercial and scientific with a controversial later on UU)
I start scouting right away and build two more scouts for exploration and notice some pretty decent lands. I wasn¡¦t sure if I should build just one scout or two since I figured 7 civs on a small map would mean I¡¦m undoubtedly close to somebody. I hope my gambit pays off. I scout west, north, and south. My research goes to max bronze working to build spearmen for defense. I though about teching straight to Horseback Riding to get my mounted warriors, but I need some defense first. My capitol builds a granary to pump out settlers very fast.

3450BC Meet Germany and Korea. Germany has Bronze Working and Warrior Code and will only give me Bronze Working in a trade. I¡¦m getting it next turn so I don¡¦t want to trade with them. Korea has Bronze Working and Alphabet and will only give me Bronze Working. Since I¡¦m going to get Bronze Working next turn, I don¡¦t want to trade with them.
3400BC Researched Bronze Working. Started on The Wheel at max. I think Germany has either met somebody and traded with them or he got a goody hut because he has 20 gold. That would indicated he sold one tech for another tech and 10 gold.
3350BC Gave Germany Ceremonial Burial for Warrior Code and 7 gold. Sweet, I have horses right next to my capitol!
3100BC Meet Rome. Because they have the Alphabet, Korea will now decide to do some business with me. I give Korea Ceremonial Burial and Pottery for Alphabet and 10 gold. I then give Germany Alphabet and Mysticism for Masonry and 13 gold. Definitely not the best of trades, but I want to keep all the AIs happy with me. I figured they would demand the techs from me soon anyway.
2850BC Goody hut gave me maps of the region. Pretty worthless, except it revealed another goody hut. Met Zululand this turn. It looks like they are on an island beside Germany. I must reveal more of the land to be sure.

2750BC Goody hut gave me 25 gold. On this turn Germany moved an archer into my lands. I told them to withdraw but I wasn¡¦t given the withdraw or declare war option. I have a feeling then next time I get the save file I will be at war with Germany.
2700BC I was right. I opened the save file and I¡¦m at war with Germany. Their archer died to my spearmen. Hopefully that is the only combat unit I will see this war.
2670BC Traded Ceremonial Burial to Zululand for 24 gold. Then sold Ceremonial Burial to Rome for 14 gold. I also met Maverick this turn. As of right now he¡¦s three techs behind me. I have Bronze Working, Warrior Code, and Ceremonial Burial and he doesn¡¦t. I think he must be right up next to Zululand which makes me happy ƒº
2470BC Traded Rome Mysticism for Iron Working. Sweet, I have iron just south of my capitol. Swordsmen will do nicely against the Germans if they want to stay at war with me for long.
2390BC After Germany impaled two of their archers on me they decided on peace. They gave me a worker, the only thing they have. I love the stupidity of the AI at early wars.
2110BC Settled Niagara Falls, my second city! My wandering spearman also noticed that Germany no longer has two cities and my spearman has found some ruins. I also see a Mongol warrior just outside Berlin. My guess is Germany is playing the stupid AI this game.
2070BC Settled Grand River
1950BC Zululand just discovered writing. I trade them Communications with Germany and 115 gold for Writing and a worker. I then trade Korea Communications with the Mongols for 39 gold. Then I trade Zulu Communications with the Mongols for 18 gold. Then I trade Rome Communications with Germany for 19 gold. Then I trade Korea Communications with Germany for 4 gold. Then I began research on Mathematics at max science. I¡¦m hoping I can get it and trade with the AIs.
1870BC Goody hut gave 25 gold.
1830BC Traded Rome Writing for Horseback Riding and 7 gold. It¡¦s not the best trade, but a lot of people, to include Maverick have both techs, so I traded for it while I could.
1650BC Settled Allegheny.
1600BC Goody hut gave maps of the region.
1550BC Discovered Mathematics. Started Map Making at max research.
1525BC Settled Cattaraugus. Rome has moved an elite warrior and a regular warrior near my borders. I think they might attack soon.
1500BC Sure enough, the Romans attacked. They lost an elite warrior and I lost nothing. Their second warrior fortified itself in my land. I wonder if they will send anything else my way.]
1425BC Traded Korea Horseback Riding and 60 gold for a worker.
1375BC Traded Korea Mathematics for their WM, Philosophy, Map Making, 22 gold. Then I traded the Zulu Mathematics for their WM and 90 gold. Started research on Currency on max.
1250BC Peace with Rome. They gave me their WM and 20 gold which is all they had. Settled Oil Springs.
1125BC Gave the Zulu 115 gold for a worker.
1050BC Settled Tonawanda.
1000BC Traded the Zulu my WM and 65 gold for a worker. Then I gave Rome my WM for their WM and 45 gold. Then I gave Korea my WM and 75 gold for Code of Laws. Then I gave the Mongols my WM for their WM and 16 gold. Then the Zulu gave me 6 gold for my updated WM. Rome gave me 2 gold my updated WM.
950BC Researched Currency and started work on Construction.
875BC Maverick must have researched Polytheism, because almost everybody has it and Maverick is now caught up in tech (he was 3 techs behind me). So I trade Rome Currency for Polytheism and 130 gold. Then I trade the Zulu Currency for a worker and 18 gold. Then I trade Korea Currency for 99 gold.

610BC Researched Construction. Started work on Feuadlism. Got reports of a massive uprising near Tonawanda which is my city close to the Germans. Hopefully the barbarians will harass them instead of me.
510AD Settled Centralia. The Mongols have moved two archers into my land threatening one of my cities. They are polite with me, but I know they are waiting for me to demand they leave so they can attack me. As soon as I get another swordsmen into that city I will demand they leave and destroy their archers after they declare war.
350BC Maverick offered my Literature so I offered him Construction in return.

190BC Researched Feudalism. Started work on The Republic.
130BC Maverick offered my The Republic. I offered him 120 gold in return. I hope he takes it because it would have cost me 180 gold to continue researching it at my current pace. On my next turn I see that Maverick made the trade. I started work on Engineering. I revolted and drew my 1 turn of anarchy.
30BC Declared war on Germany. Captured the city of Hamburg and Berlin using my mounted warriors. I didn¡¦t lose anything and killed two spearmen. This kicked off my golden age.

130AD Researched Engineering. Started work on Invention. Destroyed Germany

280AD Somewhere in here I captured Rome, don¡¦t remember what year it was. I noticed Maverick is also at war with Rome. Researched Invention this turn and notice everybody else has it! Started work on Gunpowder.
340AD Destroyed Rome.
350AD Declared war on the Zulu. I don¡¦t really want to fight them, I just want one city with luxuries.
360AD The Mongols declared war on me when I told them to leave me land.
380AD Researched Gunpowder and started work on Chemistry. I also completed my forbidden palace in Niagara Falls. It¡¦s right next to my capitol, but it will be a good place if I jump my capitol later on. Bought a worker from Korea for 105 gold.
420AD Peace with the Zulu. I got what I wanted which is the city of Ngome and its gems. They gave me 16 gold which is all they had.
520AD Researched Chemistry. Started work on Metallurgy.
530AD Made peace with the Mongols. They gave me Monotheism and I gave them 10 gold.
540AD Researched Metallurgy. Started work on Military Tradition.
570AD Built Leonard¡¦s Workshop.
610AD Researched Military Tradition. Started work on Theology. My plan is to upgrade my few mounted warriors into cavalry and attack Maverick. He doesn¡¦t have Gunpowder yet so hopefully I can put a serious hurting on him.
650AD Researched Theology. Started work on Education. I will attack Maverick in a few turns.

I attack Maverick with my cavalry. I capture two cities and raze another one. I don¡¦t lose a single unit and I kill 4 Numidian Mercenary and 1 Medieval Infantry. Before I attacked my military advisor said compared to them I have an average military. Now my advisor says I have a strong military.

680AD Capture Leptis Minor. Now I have split Maverick¡¦s land in two. It will be easier to destroy his southern lands.
690AD Researched Education. Started work on Astronomy.
700AD Captured Russadir. Also destroyed a stack of 3 veteran Medieval Infantry that had moved next to Oea without losing a single unit. Maverick sent me an e-mail telling me he tried to unite the world against me but they all wanted 20gpt each and he can¡¦t afford it. I know he is in his golden age now because one of his Numidian Mercenaries killed one of my cavalry. I don¡¦t think his golden age will help him too much.

710AD Captured Carthago Novo.
720AD Captured Mandalgovi. The Mongols are now at war with Maverick. I didn¡¦t ask them, guess they smelled fresh blood. However, Maverick got the Zulu to declare war on me. So I established an embassy with Korea and gave them Dyes, Spices, and Education to declare war on the Zulu. Then I gave Korea horses so they could build knights in exchange for Ivory. I don¡¦t think I will have too much trouble with the Zulu now.
730AD Allied with the Mongols to fight Maverick. Since they were already at war with Maverick, and they paid me 30 gold to ally against Maverick, I thought it was smart. That way Maverick can¡¦t make peace with them and then pay them to fight me. I¡¦m really surprised Maverick hasn¡¦t just conceded yet. He has no way to stop my cavalry, he has no saltpeter even when he does get Gunpowder so he can¡¦t get muskets. He told me via e-mail he would fight to the last man.
740AD Researched Astronomy. Started work on Physics. Maverick now has knights.
770AD Got a great leader from an elite cavalry. I also captured the city of Utica. That was a tough city and I lost several cavalry capturing it. I used my leader to rush Sistine¡¦s Chapel. I don¡¦t even have a single cathedral! I didn¡¦t want to make an army because I don¡¦t really need an army right now, nothing Maverick has can stop my cavalry.

800AD Researched Physics. Started work on Theory of Gravity. I captured Carthage this turn. It was defended by three Numidian Mercenaries. I didn¡¦t lose a single unit. Maverick¡¦s capitol jumped to Rusicade, which is right next to Carthage. That might be my next target!

820AD Captured Hippo.
830AD Captured Rusicade, then Cadiz, then Sabratha on the same turn. I notice Macerick has a galley. I sure hope he doesn¡¦t play hide the settler.
840AD Captured the Zulu city of Tugela.

860AD Captured Nora, Maverick¡¦s last city. Either he has a city that nobody knows about, or he has a settler on a ship floating around. I saw a galley of his a few turns ago so I have sent out a caravel with 2 cavalry and a medieval infantry. Hopefully I find him soon because this game is over. I also capture the Zulu capitol of Zimbabwe with the Great Wall. There were 8 workers in that city also!

880AD Captured the Zulu capitol of Ulundi and got The Great Library. I also got a great leader which I used to build an army. Captured the Zulu city of Isandhlwana.
I get the save and this is the message Maverick sends me: Ahh... crap. Typical, I land my one settler and it gets killed by
barbarians. Oh well, looks like you won that!!

I've talked to Digger and we're gonna put up the database as far as it's done. This means it will be able to view online, but we have to edit it localy and upload as long as we havent finished all scripts.
However we now need a complete list of COMPLETED games and the correct order in which they finished. I've analysed the list that's in the 1st post and I;mmissing 2 games. One won by anarres and one won by JackMerchant. COuld you both post which game that is and where it should be in the finished game order. Everyone else please check if
- your games are in this post correctly.

I'm Up to date with the finished games and the queries for ladder and civ ladder. Running games is next. I already have received an email from killer with all his running games, so that will cover a big part, but definately not all. My question to you:
Please post all RUNNING games that you have where you're the player that comes up FIRST in the alphabet.
Example:
ProPain vs KingReno : Kingreno comes before Propain in the alphabet, so he'll post the game.
Please include Playernames and Civs chosen.

I have conceded my game as Germans vs Skyfish (Ottomans). Skyfish outexpanded me on all levels, and would have gotten to Sipahi while I would have needed to buy iron for knights. It wouldn't have been pretty [tank].

Cartouche Bee and I decided to quit our game. The map was too unbalanced.
Issues we had:
- Totally diferent landmass which was a bit unballancing
- I had no coal and Cartouche Bee had to lend me it. As a result we had to adapt our plans
- Cartouche Bee had no rubber, which I probably had plenty. But without Replaceable Parts I wasn't able to give it to him.

This game was mired with bad choices starting with letting Kemal choose Egypt and me trying out something I have never done before (was Aztecs). Good idea but not against such a player !
Some people have off-days I had an "off-game" and he was very fast in expanding and searching I was already way, way behind !

In my rapid race to the bottom, I have now been forced to concede my game vs puwen too (23-8). I was France, he was Carthage.

There is a "remove challenge" button in the same dialog that allows you to set a winner. "Remove challenge" sets the winner to "none" in the challenge table and updates the players "running games" record. There is no change to players or civ scores. You wont mess anything up and it has no consequences to the ladder.
I feel veeery stupid for not having seen that. Thanx digger.

I fixed the web based entry. It now sends an email to me! Next improvement will be auto filling the database from the webpage. That involves some security issues however so I've got to look in to that first.

I had some thoughts about that PP....i wrote them down a while back..but i forget if i emailed them to you or did i post them somewhere. IIRC my thoughts were based on adding a temporary page which people have submitted from the web page...then all you have to do is approve them and they get added to the DB

At least you don't lose many points then kryszcztov. IIRC you only lose 40 points instead of (the average) 50. If you had won you would have got 60 points from Sky.

Updated the ladder, it was long overdue.
Sky is still in the lead, closely followed by Kemal. Markstar is the knocking on their doors however. Congratulations on your fast rise Markstar! [goodjob]
Several remarks:
Have entered all games in this thread. Have not rewarded auto wins on all Killers games and will not. I will look at each request for a win to be awarded seperately
Have made up civs for the CG vs Killer game. Took civ close to 1000 mark
I am thinking of adding a time element to the ladder to weed out the retired players. My current idea is to take out players that have their last win over 6 months ago and do not have any running games. Will depend on possibilities for implementation however
Just when I decide to continue my name is scratched from the ladder :( Anyway, I started a new game vs anarres. I'm the Greeks, anarres is the Germans.
EDIT: and where's the Kemal - Sky game in this ladder?

@Aggie: You're starting a new game so you will stay on the ladder. But CB and DogBoy for example are not returning as far as I can see now and they are just clogging up the ladder now they cant be challenged any more.

@markstar: I noticed that and already fixed it, uploading the new config file to point to the correct database now. Still a mystery how this happened though..[confused]

Well, ProPain, you gave me a win for my game against Killer, and this was an auto-win, so... But I forgot to say that I have a 3rd game in progress (that means one at the moment, if you don't count the one vs Killer) : Stapel is the Mongols, I am the Chinese.

Aehm, excuse me for complaining again, [blush2] but now I'm listed as having 0 games, when, if fact, I do have a game going vs Snowman (post #18).
(That's why I asked if I needed [u]2</u> games running to get even. ;))
Maybe it helps solving the puzzle that I am also not available under "Running games" while I am available under "Finished games". Could it be related to that?
OMFG!! I know what happened [blush] Yesterday I accidently pressed -b- and a ladder member -b- was added - I thought - So I deleted that. What actualy happened is that I renamed you to -b- and deleted you [blush][wallbash]. Fixing that now.
Fixed it Aggie, you're back in no 3 position! Also added 2 new members and a few running matches I found in the mapmaking forum.

- 102 is still in the freezer. I am more than happy to continue but agreed with Aggie that he has the final vote. If it is quit it has no ladder consequences.

- 106 is Beams first ever win of a PBEM! Killer surrendered a while ago but we did not post the result here yet.

Beam, I'd rather start a new PBEM. But I first want to finish one of the three I'm playing now. I don't think it's good to continue our first game, because I read the spoiler (I expected not to play PBEM's anymore).
Allright, 102 is canceled without ladder consequences.
FWIW (the ladder appears to be dead to me) I just won my game vs kryszcztov. He was Carthage and I was England. C3C 1.22, Deity.
Today I lost my demigod game against Beam. I was Russia and he was the Ottomans.
The ladder is not dead btw, it just needs some TLC from PP when he gets back.
Grille beat me today. This was a C3C demigod game. He was Carthage and I was Spain.

Oh and KR resigned to me a couple of days ago.
KR was Carthage, I was Byzantines.
Time to put that TLC in the ladder. Updates before friday depending how smoothly work and comp repairs go.

As soon as you get a game started ( go to the challenges forum ) you can agree with the opponent(s) whether it is for the ladder or not. If so, you will appear on the ladder once you have submitted a "score".

Alright, thanks all. (especially krys. ;) ) - I've been lurking this place for awhile, as some of you might know, the guest is a lot of times me. I'm pming people that I would very much enjoy a PBEM game with, and if that doesn't work, Opponent Finding Forum here I come!
Welcome and have a good time at CDZ Ginger Ale, just don't drink to much of that stuff. Fish are told to piss in it. ;)
When you've found an opponent also post a Map Request in the Map Maping forum, I guess you've got that already.

Thanks...I dunno if that ladder is dead or not, I just want to try out a PBEM. And to answer your question krys, I'm usually just one guest. ;)
Game number ... hm, I don't know which. Finished 2 days ago between akots (Chinese) and Arghis (Persia) map made by Beam, and I have won somehow.
The game between Aggie and me finished with a win for me about a week ago, although I didn't do anything to deserve it.
The game between Yndy and me finished about a month ago with a win for me.
Game no-AI between akots (Ottomans) and Krys (Greeks) (map made by Beam) has been finished and Krys resigned on turn 169. So, I have won apparently.
pard me, I'm not sure how this all works.
do we just announce a game's end here or do we also have to submit a game's start via the ladder pages (>I see there's some submit feature, also the games have numbers)?

I guess I can claim victory against OPD since he is not responding and earlier he wrote he does not want to continue. Map was made by Beam, OPD was the Zulu and I was Celts. No AI game on Emperor level.
Grille's chirpy French civilisation could not stand Beam's baaad, evil, threatening (etc...;)) Chinese anymore. France surrendered today.
Game started 07/2004, C3C on demi-god.

I'm happy to report a victory for me, playing the Iros vs Matrix as Celts.
I never came so close to defeat I think, but in the end the mighty MWs prevailed again. Throughout most of the game I was at war with all of the other 5 AIs I knew. And they were coming for me, at the beginning with warriors, but soon with Swords- and Horsemen. All that while I was trying to kill Matrix who, even though playing a standard map, was pretty much right next to me. Only when I made peace with the AI and paid a ridiculous amount of money and tech to please them was I able to get the best of Matrix.[jump]
