Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know we're behind but especially running games is a lot of work. I'm thinking how I can make this easy on myself to minimize the time it takes. I'm thinking along the lines of an excel sheet you can fill out and post which would keep typing for me and Mel to a minimum. I'll get back on this.
Also AFAIK the ladder standings are updated every few days, we try to do it right after we receive the result. I can't spend more time on civ, the ladder and the forums as I do now (2-3 hours a day) I already quit the GOTM and tournament so if you think the update rate is too slow I'm sorry but you'll just have to bear with me :(

hmm, almost missed this one cos of a problem i had with the active topics thread.
So how do you currently update the ladder then? type/update a speadsheet then copy and paste into the thread?
As far as currently running games, they are registered with you ladder admins, so somehow they need to be passed onto me.
I'll think more about it have to fly off to a meeting now.
Keep a spreadsheet with all the details then copy and paste is what I do for the tournament stuff at CFC.
I should edit that for grammar but I cant be arsed.

Think more primtive :) results are updates in the post which at present requires a bit of renumbering every time. I want to put it in a spreadsheet however but with 25 contestants it's not that much work.

Most are not registered which is the start of the problem. Best would be however to have a standard submitting procedure in place before asking people to submit their games. Otherwise we'll end up with a heap of mail that will require a lot of sorting out.
I think a meeting is good idea.
Notification : Digger has started on a database for the ladder and his making good progress. He showed me and Mel a first prototype today and it looks really good.

There is a GD forum with some useful info in, and a unique '1 on 1 strategy' forum for stratagies more appropriate to 1 on 1 PBEM games. Happy civing. :)

We're working on games ongoing but with digger dbase. The games ended woould be the same as games played[confused]

Ok, added results JM vs Killer. Didnt move JM down the 2500 points row. This is an exceptio to normal rules. (first to get score stays on top) because 2500 is the starting score and you can get that by not playing. SO 2500 and no games finished will be bottom of 2500 score.

hmmm. i think we should start putting some results into that database propain...even though it is not fully functional. i think it will make it easier still...just export a html file of the ladder query.

It isn't easy for ProPain doing this extreme difficult job! ;)
I have resigned my game agaist ProPain, and have emailed the Ladder admins to confirm it.
Since the score difference is 150 points he will get 55 points and I will lose 55 points, makng me 5th on the ladder. [sad]

P.S. I think the first scoring bracket 0 < 100 needs to be 0 < 99 as all the other brackets are from 100 - 199, 200 - 299, etc. I ahve posted this suggestion to the rules thread.

And I'll testify here that manually editing the ladder is totally crazy!! You really need to get that database sorted pronto for your own sanity's sake.
And perhaps the method of reporting games should be formalised, loser reports within 24h is the usual method, could be as it is by email to ladder, or a reports thread, or even a web-based form. But as current standing at time of change to ladder affects score it's important they go on in the right order.

Dogboy wins! The numidians mercs of Maverick were no match for the Mounted Warriors of the Iroquois and fell quickly before the onslaught.

I agree with Mel, Ladder seems correct. Also the database hasnt been progressed more due to my rl entanglements. I'll be looking into this again this week and contact digger.

when i said the other day that my current tactic of not playing pbem games was paying off i was joking. I see that I have now risen to a totally undeserved second - woo hoo i have saved the screenie etc, all i need now is for annares to lose a game and i will be top.
This is because the game i did win was finished a while a go and is therefore somehow worth more.
This cant be right; surely someone who has played 5 and won 3 (killer?) should be higher than me. Perhaps ive got goals scored in my head? Does this really matter anyway?
because Killer lost to a lower ranked player he ended up losing 55 points and thus 5 point beneath you, and all the other players at 2550 for that matter. Oddly enough all 2550 have 1 finished game and won that too, in that light I think it's fair you're in 2nd place you managed to win that frrst game the fastest. Things will get better when more games are finished and the scores get seperated a bit. IMO it is way to early to adjust the system now (15 finished games or so)
So enjoy your silver medal for now ;)

The ladder database is uploaded and contains all finished games. The ladder script also works so you can now use the link in the portal for an up to date ladder!
The database allows for win method to be entered so please include this in your future result posts/emails.
Entering the running games is next. See the running games thread for more details.

One small point: I have 2645 points, not 2640, and I believe ERIKK is similarly 5 point above where he should be. :)
ERIKK (Japan) - anarres (Arabs), anarres wins, ERIKK resigns after being attacked by the AI in turn 36...
Anarres, the 5 point difference is caused by the correct implementation of the first score interval in the database. The first score interval was 0-100 instead of 0-99 (what it should be)as you pointed out yourself (iirc). The database has recalculated all results from the start and that why there's a 5 point difference now.
I will update the database with the latest Erikk vs anarres.

I think Propain is away on holidays, you'll have to wait till he gets back and even then he might have work to catch up on...Don't let that hold you up, you can still get added to the ladder and add all your winnings at the same time.

Today I won my ladder match vs OPD. I was Egypt and he was China, in a monarch game.
What a day! I also won from Jack Merchant a couple of hours later. I was France and Jack was Russia, deity with two settlers.

but in summary means, players get 1% off the difference between the civ rankings added too (if you play the lower ranked civ) or subtraction from (if you play the higher ranked civ) the points awarded for the challenge. From memory i think there is a limit of +/-5 points than can be subtracted or added.
So if one civ is 1100 poins and another civ is 900 poins, the difference = 200 points.... 1% = 2 points subtracted from the player with the better civ, 2 points added to the player with the lower civ, regardless of results.

And the relative score is linked to the dynamic civ ranking at the finishing/starting date or statically linked to a current civ ranking (I suspect the first since the latter doesn't make any sense at all, question answered)

umm....scores are calculated based on players and civ scores at the finish date, first players score gets adjusted based on civ rank, then the civ rank score gets adjusted. So yes i think you answered you own question.

I have a few ideas for stuff we could add... basically all nicked from other ladders (for other games) I have played in. Like showing who's on a winning streak etc. I'll put them into some kind of presentable format and get back to you.

when is the ladder going to be updated again?
It's updated now!!! Added 10 results, new players, and.... running games. You can't see the actual games yet (working on that, use the other thread for that now) but you can see the number of games someone is playing.

Updated the ladder, we have a new number 2: AGGIE!!! congratulations Aggie. I'd say that's a good way to start your holiday.
Also Aggie get the ladder admin reward for being the ONLY one to mail his results. Pls follow his example. This will make my life easier untill web entry is possible.
I'd like to thank Digger for once again improving the database, all new features work like a charm!
And a last note : There are now 56 finished games for the ladder, I think that's quite a lot, keep up the good gaming guys!
