I'm in, of course. I think a friend of mine would like to play as well, but he's on holiday atm. He'll be back in a week or so, but you can put him on the preliminary list. He's team is Spartak Wageningen, I'll look up his team ID.
I am here to defend my title :)

I am definately in!
It is great that the cup begins now as I will have very little time on my holiday to arrange friendlies. I will be able to confirm CDZ-cup-matches!
I'm in, though for a moment I might have missed the start since I was on holiday.

I'm in! Hopefully I won't accidentally field my main squad two or three times like last cup. ;)
I'm in and I'm sure Schip, who's on a holiday, wants to play too.
Hello!
I am Yndy's better half and I'am also in.
My team is Codrutul Doicesti and I'm happy to play in this Cup.

Welcome!
I am in as well
Let's see what my Swingstars can do
Spartak Wageningen will also compete in the tournament. Let's see what my 9th division team can do.
HI! Back from holiday and in!

[crazyeye]Yup sorry, must be the coffee at work. [drunk]
Hi.. Thanx for the PM, Yndy! I thought I waited to show my interest in the cup until I had a team. IIRC the hattrick site stated a waiting time of several weeks, so I hope that'll be in time. I'll give you notice when smth happens team wise.
[shout]Cup program
There will be 3 groups of five teams each, and again, in order to avoid three teams waiting each week, we will have some games between groups. Edit: Based on the schedule the between groups games cannot give you points in the cup but will give you goal difference.
The participants are split in three pools:
* winners: FC Cruise, Shabba FC and Sticla T-veni :)
* seasoned participants: 6 teams
* new participants: 6 teams (including Plux and Kemal)
I have added a limit of three Dutch teams in each group to get more international games going.
I will balance home/away games for each team as possible. Rebalancing will take place in the knock-out phase.
Games will be played as friendlies with Cup Rules (although results after 90 minutes will be recorded) and booked accordingly in Hattrick; Challanges should be accepted by Friday evening or I'll spam your inbox at HT, CDZ and home
Now let me think of a way to schedule the games ... here it is

Looks like a tough set of matches for me. This should be an interesting cup for sure, especially as I'm going to switch my training to midfield in the near future, so I should be pulling some pretty good midfield ratings in friendlies as well.

Yndy, could you post the byes as well?
Argh. Midfield trainers and their stupid friendly ratings. ;) Beware Group B, I will now put the league on low prio. ;)
Last minute change, Spartak Wageneningen now plays Kemal's FC De Snaken, Wednesday. You can now chalenge the other teams to set up Round 1 games.
Good luck to all!

The players of PP SV have boarded the plane to Romania. As they know they don't have a chance they're gonna stick to the old adagium : 'first the man, then the ball!'

Ah, yes, the hidden tactic...
Quoting a president which will not get his second mandate (at least I hope so):
"There are some who feel like that conditions are such that they can attack us there,"
"My answer is: Bring them on. We have the force necessary to deal with the situation."
Hmmm not exactly a great start... Not really looking forward to my next league game either since its against the runaway leaders...
Damned, damned, damned, 3-2 loss to Mel. Biggest possesion of ball, good scores on stars. But it is like the dutch team, even if they play better they still loose.
Congratz Mel.
Well, FC De Snaken got trounced 6-0 in their cup tie against Spartak Wageningen, and are now back to reality after their league win last sunday... though the result was a bit flattered as I did hit the post once.. [rolleyes]
Well done to Wageningen, of course.
A true miracle happened : PP SV WON!!! 2-3 victory and best star ratings I've ever seen from my second team....
I was surprised about the score in my game.
Unfortunately I had a three weeks injury. In the next game I may play the coach as a forward.
Cruise and delivered another thriller, hitting players out on both sides. I feel I should have won though, with all those changes. But on the bright side: we played attractive, dominant football. (new coach of Dutch national team Marco van Basten)
congrats Cruise.

Yellow Boots - Dynamo Morpork: 4-2
Possession was split down the middle and my defense was worse than his on the center and right, but I had a somewhat better attack than Dynamo did, which might have caused me to win. It could easily have gone either way though.

Aren't we playing a cup then?
Yes, i don't see a reason to do cup-matches if it's only about 90 minutes.
It will only increase the risk of injuries.
Bootstoots

Attendance is slightly higher for cup rules matches than it is for normal friendlies.
The reasoning behind is that
a) cup-rules friendly games attract more crowd and since some of the teams are small, we want to minimize the loss / maximize revenues in HT money of the tournament.
b) We’re in a league phase of the competition and draws are acceptable in league phases.
c) injury risk is higher only in the extra-time and most of the games will not get into extra time.
d) the difference between the teams used to be large so chance of draws was very small.
Based on the results last week, it is obvious that the difference is no longer that high and that alone is enough to change the 90minutes result rule in league starting from the 4th edition. We’ll stick to the current rules for this one.

Easily, especially I hadn't been trying to get the form up on my B team midfielders.
@spartak Wageningen : please accept the challenge!!!

I beat bootstoots 7-3, hurray. Pretty decent revenue, over 8000 euros (times two, of course).
Thnx for me writing me down for a win against KR, Yndy, but in fact I really lost by 0-2 [rolleyes]

[party]
quote:A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 2914 to Treacle Mine Road. Dynamo had chosen a strategic 5-3-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: Aase - Siong-Heng, Broertjes, de las Nieves, Lerche, Leirvik - Ackerman, Jensen, Andersen - Haugland, Sukunya.
Aristocats tactics involved an interesting 5-3-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Saranpää - Eichinger, Gunning, van den Burg, Gaastra, Zirngibl - Dalhuizen, Korsten, Dominkovic - Timmers, Salman.
Aristocats saw most attack opportunites on the wings and were directing their passes that way. In the 6:th minute Dynamos Wan Siong-Heng received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. It was a hot and sunny day, and several players seemed worn out. Maybe this was why Ger Gaastra found unusually much space for his snappy footwork. After 16 minutes Aristocats´s Sleiman Salman contracted a slight foot injury, but could finish the game. Halftime score was 0 - 0. Dynamo held the ball, with a clear 52 percent possession rate.
With 55 minutes played Ove Haugland almost gave the home side the lead with an unexpected free kick set up, but visitors Asmo Saranpää was onto it, grabbing the would be break through ball. Dynamo created a good opportunity to score in the games 66:th minute when Andy Ackerman`s hooked ball created a scuffle in front of the goal, and the visitors defenders had a hard time clearing the ball. The terraces were silenced in the 69:th minute as Aristocats´s Ger Gaastra put the guests ahead 0 - 1, following an attack from the right. Leon Broertjes behaved like an inexperienced youth player in the 71st minute as he gave the ball away to an opponent. Lucky for him though, there was no goal. After 73 minutes Nipon Sukunya got through on the right and was very close to equalising for the home side, but didn´t get the shot away. As Sleiman Salman had, completely unprovoked, swept the legs out from under an opponent in front of a linesman, the referee gave the Aristocats player a red card without batting an eye. This part of the game had been a standoff between the teams.
Most important Dynamo player was Leon Broertjes. Jostein Aase on the other hand, had a terrible day. The most dominating Aristocats player was without a doubt Nikolai Eichinger. However, Wout van den Burg made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 0 - 1.
Yep, 10 man Aristocats beating Morpork in Norway is a cupset!
Certainly makes me swear a bit for not putting my best keeper in - but you deserved to win that match, no question. I'll just have to pour in goals on the Ducks, might send me through in third place if I'm lucky...
Well after we finally were able to set a date for the important match Swingstars - PP SV the atmosphere in the office of CQ got tense the whole day. Who would win, the honorable team of great spirit from Arnhem or the measly 8th division team from small town Zeist. Here are the results:
742 spectators arrived at SwingStars Arena, where weather conditions were pretty good for football. SwingStars had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation. Lineup: Rasing - de Greef, Klarenbeek, Haagsman - Haarman, Heil, Veraar, Arkesteijn - van de Garde, Kuiper, Fiume.
PP had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. They fielded: Lageman - Tafro, van Bommel, Nobbe - Benetis, van Harsselaar, Schulte, Langelaan, Tudor - de Moll, Kamperman.
SwingStars were very close to putting themselves one up in the 3rd minute as Vincent Heil got through, but failing in concentration, he shot the ball wide. PP took the lead after 4 minutes with 0 - 1. Filip van Bommel placed the ball out of reach for the home sides keeper after a fine move, coming in from the left. The referee showed SwingStarss Bram Klarenbeek the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. The SwingStars equaliser came in the 6:th minute when Bram Klarenbeek floated in a free kick putting the score to 1 - 1 . In the games 12th minute Pascal Schulte almost gave the visitors the lead, as he clipped a spectacular scissors shot just past the bar. PP took the lead in the games 24:th minute with 1 - 2 after some elegant plays down the middle. Lars van Harsselaar was the scorer. The teams went for a half-time break at 1 - 2. The fortyfive minutes were dominated by PP, with an impressive 56 percent possession of the ball.
Ruud-Jan van de Garde pulled a real crowd pleaser as he, in the 62nd minute, wove through the guests whole central defense line and put the 2 - 2 equaliser away. Many thought Bram Veraar ought to have been awarded a penalty shot in the 85:th minute, as he went down trying to circle the visitors keeper Bernie Lageman. PP´s Lars van Harsselaar gave the visitors a 2 - 3 lead in the 86:th minute with a superb strike from the right. Vincent Heil pulled a real crowd pleaser as he, in the 88:th minute, wove through the guests whole central defense line and put the 3 - 3 equaliser away. The referee showed SwingStarss Ruud-Jan van de Garde the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. The fortyfive minutes were dominated by PP, with an impressive 53 percent possession of the ball.
As none of the teams had managed to win, extra time was called. A questionable penalty in the 92nd minute gave the home side the lead 4 - 3. The visitors goaltender didn´t stand a chance as Bram Klarenbeek knocked the ball home. Extra time over, SwingStars were the victors! Most important SwingStars player was Vincent Heil. Dario Rasing on the other hand, had a terrible day. The most dominating PP player was without a doubt Brunis Benetis. However, Mike Kamperman made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 4 - 3.
Yep Swingstars got the victory of course (but only after 90 minutes) so for our CDZ cup this means a 3-3 draw. This will certainly be discussed at the office for days, but the rest will return.
Sticla T-veni - Spartak Wageningen 1 - 1 after 90 minutes, (in extra time Sticla wins by 2-1.)

If there is a winner of Acorazado v Wartham, the winner will qualify on points. If the match ends in a draw, both teams are knocked out.
Group B:
Aristocats and Shabba FC have qualified (as can not finish worse than third)
Yellow Boots qualify with a draw or better against Aristocats
Dynamo Morpork qualify if they beat Dom Ducks and Yellow Boots lose.
Group C:
PP SV are qualified with a draw and knocked definitely out with a loss
Spartak Wageningen are qualified with a loss as long as PP SV doesn't draw Melis Manglers OR Acorazado v Wartham is drawn
Sticla T-veni is out
SwingStars are qualified with a win - they may qualify with a draw if Melis Manglers doesn't beat Spartak Wageningen and Acorazado v Wartham is drawn
Melis Manglers are qualified with a win, and knocked out with a draw.
Simple. ;)

Yellow Boots - Wartham United 4-2. It was a good game, but only goal difference counts.
I ended up playing my first team so that would be why it was reasonably close (At least the final score)
I am to play Codrutul next round, but my challenge has not yet been accepted. Would be a shame for Codrutul to be knocked out of the CDZ-cup because of this...

Yndy will be pleased to see that without his, erm, prompting I have in fact managed to organise my match this week with PP and not against Spartak Wageningen as intimated by Hakon.
Also I apologise to Yndy for not organising my match 2 weeks ago.
I was away for the whole week and weekend and went to organise it early Tuesday only to find I'd been walk-overed :(

PS. [goodjob]
well you wont be walked over wednesday, the PP SV players are still recovering from winning the championship last sunday :D

Ouch [blush] Sorry about that [blush]
Congrats PP, though :D
Wartham 1 - Acorazado 7
that's all I can do about it. Will I survive to the next round? I'll have to wait and see tonight I guess.....
good luck everyone.
Guys, I'll be back from vacation on Friday, and will set up the quarterfinals and the other games then. Remember, no team is dropped out, all play until the final round.
Codrutul Doicesti - FC De Snaken 0-2, my first win in a friendly ever, and good news for Schip I suppose. :)
Aristocats are down 0-1 against Yellow Boots. Just a shame I didn't get a chance to finish it off myself :(
Edit: My word. 1-1 and a penalty turned down. Up the Cats!
In the 82nd minute cheers broke out as Falko Claessens found his way through the guests central defense line, clipping the 3 - 2 goal in for Aristocats. Aristocats put their lead ahead another goal as Geert Hoogerheide struck home the 4 - 2 goal, after an attack from the left setting him up unmarked with the keeper.
What a turnaround...
Live table:
Aristocats (NED) 4-3-1-0 10-5 10
Shabba FC (NED) 4-2-1-1 16-20 7
Dynamo Morpork (NOR) 4-2-0-2 13-7 6
Yellow Boots (USA) 4-2-0-2 18-15 6
Dom Ducks (NED) 4-0-0-4 2-14 0
IMO a shame that either had to go out, but I'm happy for my sake...was beginning to think the ref had fixed a 2-2

Still, be interesting to see what the set-up is for the quarter-finals.

TS has no influence whatsoever on performance in friendlies. Same goes for Confidence. You'll have to find a better excuse then that![thumbsup]
As for the Quarters, is there a "standard" draw or will it be random, whcih would include the possibility that 2 teams meet that were in the same group?
Q: Well done man! the 9th is a long way down for some others in your group! Hope you promote quickly.

Beat meli 7-1, I'm amazed and very happy.
Eindhoven is doing well with 3 teams progressing :D

IMO that's wrong (I'll check it out with someone who has played HT longer). What doesn't have an effect is Mots or PIC - so that you can't lift the team spirit in friendlies. "Proof": I played just as bad midfield in the last game, yet got wretched (high) compared to poor (very low) today - and my TS had gone up one point.
quote:Originally posted by HT-rules
The crowd turnout for a friendly is considerably less than for a regular game. Self-confidence and team spirit are not affected, nor are supporters or their mood. (This is because your regular players aren´t affected by how the reserves perform.)
I suppose this means after the game. It does say not affected, after all, meaning that the match result has no effect on the TS - but it says nothing about the other way around...
@KR: check out the first page of this thread to see who you are playing, the cup is planned up to the final.
@PP: Yeah, Eindhoven de gekste!
5-1 loosing to a 8th division team :( Guess your first team is much better then my second, congrats shabba!! Veenendaal and Arnhem are in mourning.
A friendly game does not affect the teamspirit. But the teamspirit does affect the friendly.
Do I have any more games in this cup or should I start arranging my own friendlies again?

Three more friendlies left I believe (unless you lose the first two, in which case you're last anyway).
I am happy to still have a chance at the title.
Congratulation, Kemal for your victory!
[shout]Quarterfinals:
FC Cruise - Codrutul Doicesti
Aristocats - Dynamo Morpork
Spartak Wagneningen - Acorazado Fuerte
PP SV - Shabba FC
---------------------------------------
Yellow Boots - Dom Ducks
SwingStars - Meli's Manglers
Wartham United - De Snaken
Sticla T-veni waits until next round and will play winner between SwingStars and Meli's Manglers.
A lot of games are re-matches, let's see if the outcome will be the same.
The schedule was the following: Best team on first place plays worst team on 3rd place (which qualified), 2nd best on 1st place place the other team on 3rd place that qualified, the team on 3rd that did not qualifies still earns a bye to the next round, then best team on 4th place place worst team on 5th place. It happened that a lot of rematches happened which in handsight I should have foreseen.[blink]
Why do I always get to play Aristocats after the really important games? ;)

I guess we're playing with cup rules now, as it is a knock out phase?
I have challenged Spartak under cup-rules. assuming the final result will count. So I think yes, we're playing cup-rules.
Yes, this is the knock-out phase ;)
And Spartak accepted the challange under cup-rules.
Spartak also presents today their new Portugese defender to be sure that they become champion of the 9th division and to get a good result in the final stages of the 3rd CDZ-cup.

Just to let everybody know in advance, I've decided to participate in the USA vs. Israel friendly challenge to be held during the offseason. There weren't enough Americans in the challenge, and I wanted to try something new, as well as get the rest of my series involved in this. As a result, I probably won't be playing the final round here and will therefore concede a walkover to the team that plays me in the final round.
Wartham United - FC De Snaken (45 minutes played) 2 - 2
45 minutes: Halftime score was 2 - 2. Possession of the ball saw an equal split between the teams during the fortyfive minutes.
Update on that last (very close) game: now 2-3 (56 mins) as hattrick hero Hadar Harpez hits home his third! :)
Final result Wartham United - FC De Snaken: 3-6
Spectacular game, lots of goals.
It was an interesting game.
FC Cruise - Codrutul Doicesti 2 - 0
Spartak Wageningen - Acorazado Fuerte 0 - 6
Aristocats - Dynamo Morpork 2 - 4
PP SV - Shabba FC 5 - 3
SwingStars - Meli's Manglers 4 - 5
Revenge! Now for the cup exit on Wednesday...unless I do something strange with my tactics...
So FC Cruise, Acorazado Fuerte, Dynamo Morpork and PP SV are moving on to the semis.
My big chance do better than the 1st place I achieved in de no 1 CDZ cup edition :)
Congratulations Acorazado Fuerte! The fairytale of Wageningen has ended.
Next week matches are:
Acorazado Fuerte - FC Cruise
Dynamo Morpork - PP SV
-------------------------------
Codrutul Doicesti - Spartak Wageningen
Shabba FC - Aristocats
----------------------------------
Meli's Manglers - Sticla T-veni
De Snaken - Yellow Boots
------------------------------------
SwingStars waits
Dom Ducks - Wartham United
---------------------------------
[cry]
Seems like I'll be the one getting the walkover vs Boots...
Mabe I can play SwingStars instead?
yep we can play
home or away?
Well if I have the choice, the negative cash balance of De snaken would result in me rather playing you at home than away.. :)
with a friendly the income is always split between the two teams
Most likely we'll attract more supporters when we play in my arena (7th division)
Great, I didn't know that! If that's the case, lets play at your venue then indeed.

Hmm, I think you might be right hakon. Since the last league round is this weekend, i presumed it was from that point on that "the offseason" started and boots would play in the USA-Israel friendly challenge next wednesday. But indeed it seems we still have another round to go after the next for the CDZ cup, and Boots says he will only miss the final round..
Good thing I haven't accepted the challenge yet, and I'll wait doing so until Boots can tell us more. In the meantime, Swingue I'd love to play you but feel free to arrange another friendly of course, to make sure you at least have a game to play next wednesday. :)
Besides, the Norge - Eesti friendly isn't until the 6th of October...I think that's usually when the friendly challenges are, also to allow people to put their best team out :)

Figures...I forfeited a game here to play in the US-Israel challenge, and the person I was assigned didn't log in after saying he wanted to play and I'll be given a walkover there. I'm in two different friendly competitions, and not playing a game in either of them. Oh well.
Dynamo Morpork - FC Cruise 2-1 at half-time (goals: 0-1 Palso 10, 1-1 Alvarez 16, 2-1 Spatafora 32, possession: 49%-51%)
I think we may have an attendance record? Anyone in the CDZ Cup ever had 4,140 before?
Not me, friendly record for me anyway. :)
2-2 after my future coach made a header. (his specialty)
Will be really close, exciting game :)
3-2 from left side, Morten Andersen scores (reserve midfielder after his brother was kicked down by PP SV's pain-experts)
Edit: 5-2. One Dutch striker and a German middie decides the match. WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS! [crazyeye][fdevil][goodjob]

FC De Snaken - Chimica Târnãveni 2-2 AET, Chimica Târnãveni win 3-4 on penalties.
Well done Dynamo! I got my ass kicked by PP.
P SV - Acorazado Fuerte 4 - 1
Ah well, better luck next time.
The table is updated and final. Again you might recognize the medals graphics. I hope no copyright laws have been broken ;).
Only valid games between teams were added.
There’s a mistake in the table with Spartak Wageningen, they also have 3 defeats.
I'd like to congratulate Dynamo Morpork for the deserved victory, FC Cruise for an almost flawless cup run and PP SV for his first medal.
Other awards:
* The three have also jointly won the trophy for most goals scored with 26 goals, closely followed by Acorazado Fuerte’s 25.
* FC Cruise had the largest positive goal difference with +16 goals.
* Codrutul Doicesti and FC Cruise have jointly won the award for the least goals received with only 10 goals.
* Shabba FC is the team with most goals per match, an unbelievable 7.86.
* Aristocats, Spartak Wageningen and Chimica as well as Dynamo Morpork, managed to receive the same number of goals, the lucky 13.
* FC De Snaken’s performance is outstanding considering that he received his team just as the Cup started.
* Meli’s Manglers, Yellow Boots and Dom Ducks all managed to play only 5 matches this Cup, now that’s a good excuse for not having ranked higher ;).
* SwingStars and Yellow Boots have tried hard to allow as many goals as they have received, they were both off by a goal.
* Wartham United won two awards for most goals received (37) and largest negative goal difference (-26);
* Dom Ducks also got only 2 goals and is yet to win a match in the CDZ Cup.
I'm happy after finally winning a couple of games. Lookin forward to the next cup. :)
Apart from being extremely happy with my medal :) I would really like to thank Yndy for the outstanding organisation of the CDZ cup. I feel it's a great addition to CDZ and I'm convinced others feel the same as I see the number of participants grow with every edition.
Yndy, thanks for another great cup! [goodjob]
