I asked Beam who he will attack: akots or tunerica. If he attacks tunerica I can leave tunerica alone. (I didn't tell that, I just asked.)

I also asked akots whether he'd like to kill ProPain with me. [groucho]

You really should have the word "spoiler" in the title. ;)

If I edit it he will NEVER be able to change the first post himself, so that is why I didn't...

Thanks, anarres.

Anything about the game itself? [:p]

Akots agreed. :)

BTW, you will need to post pics and stuff to get comments on the game, I can remember playing a few turns of this, but even with that I can't remember what the opening options are...

I'll post some pictures when I got the savegame again (probably tomorrow morning). For now I can only say the only choices we had to make was to build:
- SAM sites
- Coastral Fortresses
- Civil Defenses
- Battlefield Medicine
- Intelligence Agency
- units (Modern Armor, Radar Artillery, Mobile SAM, Stealth Bomber, sea units)

Actually that last category is the hardest. What units to build? [confused] Note that all cities do have airports, so transporting units isn't much of an issue (except for a one turn delay).

Beam now has turn 6.

Previous turn I checked whether someone was building Manhattan. Apparently there are two:
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/DM301.jpg

Then I checked Sparta and Yaroslavl' how long it'll take to finish Manhattan:
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/DM3Sparta05.jpg

http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/DM3Yaroslavl05.jpg

If I were ProPain or Beam, I would've taken a look at each other's Manhattan building city. Why would you want to build Manhattan when somebody else is doing it? Waste of production. But last turn they were still both working on Manhattan.

Finally, I simply made luxury deals with everyone with the motto "Why not?". ProPain and akots still don't have a luxury deal. Perhaps because akots thinks he'll be breaking a deal when attacking ProPain sooner than 20 turns. I can't think of another reason, and this means ProPain knows what to expect...of akots that is.

Oh, and I've got a Strategic Missile Defense. I think everyone will be using tactical nukes anyway, but still...better than nothing. Who knows Beam thinks about nuking me from his continent.

Matrix

So I've conquered Knossos now. But akots told me by PM about the tact of Manhattan Project: that one can build it and rush nukes immediately. Haven't thought of that. http://www.straland.com/images/smilies/lipsrsealed.gif Ah well, too late about that - then he'll get nukes one turn later and we're both dead. [rolleyes]

The nukes were my plan. Was prebuilding and saving up. Already built SDI to defend against any incoming missiles. Had all my cities geared up to max shield prebuilding. You say you don't understand why we both kept building Manhattan. Pretty easy: nukes were my only way out of a lost starting position, couldn't risk that beam would quit his build, also Beam would finish slower and I needed those nukes asap.

I could have continued and sent some nukes flying next turn. But in the end I would have had to make a choice between abandoning one of the isles and fighting one war full force. Abandoning the akots cities made the most sense, hard to hold only 2 cities, but they were really productive cities because they were so close to Athens. Abandoning the stuff on your island meant abandoning the other half of my core. This predicament made me end the game. It was what I suspected from the start and frankly made the game not much fun for me.

All problems forgotten: this game is already really interesting! :D

After doing my routine surveillance of ProPain's former territory, I noticed akots landed a couple of units there! http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/DM303.jpg

Not fishy at all! So I planted a sky in his capital: success. Then I tried to steal his military plans carefully:
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/DM304.gif [yeah]

He's got quite an army:
Unit: Aztec (me) / Mongols (him)
Settler: 1 / 2
Worker: 6 / 5
Mech Inf: 48 / 59
Modern Armor: 11 / 20
Radar Artillery: 7 / 16
Cruise Missile: 0 / 13
Transport: 4 / 4
Destroyer: 3 / 9
Battleship: 1 / 0
Nuclear Submarine: 3 / 1
Jet Fighter: 0 / 12
Stealth Fighter: 0 / 1
Stealth Bomber: 3 / 2
Mobile SAM: 2 / 7

Most were in Ereen, Tsetserleg, Baruun-Urt and Choyr:
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/DM305.jpg

These are the unit piles in Ereen and Tsetserleg, respectively:
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/DM3Ereen12.gif http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/DM3Tsetserleg12.gif
And here are Baruun-Urt and Choyr, respectively:
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/DM3Baruun-Urt12.gif http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/DM3Choyr12.gif

First I thought he might just want to get some of the resources and a bulk of defensive units to avoid that I'd destroy it immediately, but then I figured he could rush an airfield! So I attacked. First with the seven radar artilleries I was about to transport to my main continent. Then with one Modern Armor I just finished building there.
Result:
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/DM306.jpg
So one of his mech inf's is dead.
I also destroyed a destroyer with my battleship and airlifted nine modern armors (from the nine cities on my main land) to 'ProPain'.

Man, what an intense turn! [eek]

Any chance to sell that info on akots' military outside the game perhaps, like in exchange for protection/alliances?

Matrix
27-06-2004, 14:56
Hey, that's a good idea! [yeah]

Anyway, akots just reported that he sent an ICBM to me, but it was intercepted. :D

Matrix
27-06-2004, 18:58
Hey, how can akots have nukes already?! I couldn't change my production this turn... :(

First tactical nuke will be done in two turns, two others in three. That's also the sequence in which I'll be building nukes.

Matrix

With a Tactical Nuke at close range I thought it might be a good idea to think about where I would drop it, so I [u]safely</u> stole akots' plans, successfully. Costed me 3500 gold, but I still have about 1200 now, receiving 950 per turn.

This is what I found in Choyr:
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/DM307.gif
That is by far the biggest stack. My dillemma was: do I take out this huge stack, or, more fundamentally, do I take out a big city (in which case Baruun-Urt would be candidate). I chose for the stack nevertheless, with statisfaction. :)
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/DM308.gif
But that's also after bombardment with Stealth Bombers. That didn't go well: three out of seven were shot down, and I killed only one Stealth Bomber of him, and hurted one other.

Look at how weird he parked his artillery units:
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/DM309.jpg

Finally, what's he planning here?

After sending akots the battle report I finished with: http://www.straland.com/images/smilies/cringe.gif, and then said: "But you have more losses. [:p]" Now he knows I knew his troop locations. [wallbash]
Then again, I might've only inspected Choyr. [rolleyes]

ProPain
14-07-2004, 19:55
Not sure I understand, iirc, troops outside a city don''t show up on city inspection and randomly nuking a tile that happens to contain an SoD seems unlikely. So I think he'll fogure out by himself that you spied his troop location. But I could be wrong on the city inspection part.

Furthermore the weird parked units are probably there to prevent troop landings. Now, I havent checked Akots's spoiler but it might indicate he planted a spy and knows you dont have marines. But that can also be an educated guess as I think they are rarely build by human players.

Maybe he's planning on building a single city on that island so he can hold bombing runs from it over your land? It seems a lot safer than a carrier.

Matrix

Good points, gentlemen! ;)

Matrix
02-08-2004, 17:14
I have it all figured out now! I'm bombing all tiles around Choyr so that I can land my troops above that city without him being able to reach my invasion with his modern armors. He doesn't have them all in Choyr namely. Especially not since I nuked it! [lol]

Matrix

Shabbaman's island is completely occupied by Beam now.

He took my capital, taking out my Strategic Missile Defense, then nuked about 17 cities, took a few cities on my eastern island. In short: I'm dead. [rolleyes] I abandoned the rest of my cities there.

But I've signed peace with akots and Beam said he'll leave me alone. So "I will diminish and go into the west;" go into retreat. Try to rebuild what can be rebuilt, and perhaps I'll survive as second in place.

Beam will win, little doubt about that.

Is your server down Matrix? I cant see any of the images you have uploaded (and I guess all are on straland.com, no?

Yea, my server's a moody one. [rolleyes] That's what you get when you choose the cheapest from a list. But I'll ask whether they can prevent it.

It often (always?) seems to happen at midnight... [hmm]

A funny spoiler you have here... he-he

But all the info is correct. We should have stopped nuking each other long time ago and started to nuke Beam. I finished a few first ICBM builds by disbanding stupid improvements like Colisseium, Libraries, Universities and Research Labs etc. Also, I have not tried to steal your troop position thinking it is a waste of money and used up all cash in rushing nukes.

There were two decisive factors in our conflict. First, the shortest distance between Choyr and ProPain's land was 6 tiles. So, I was unable to deliver troops there in 1 turn without ship chaining. And I don't use that. Besides, even if I was going to, I had not enough destroyers there for protection and you could have easily killed the empty transport. Second, your first 3 nukes were really very painful. Especially since none of them was intercepted. Whereas most of mine were intercepted. Bad luck. But it was an interesting battle.

IMO, all this DM is about nukes and SDI defence. The city with SDI defence is the key to victory. Once it is captured, game is over. Especially considering that Tunerica did not bother to build one at all. [lol]

Having a city build on uranium and another one on aliminum is a must to have as well. Otherwise your resources can be nuked.

Good points. I'll think about them next time I make one. ;) (If I ever do. But I think I can't resist it.)
