View Full Version : Why doesn't replay work anymore?

I've never bothered to ask this question, but it has annoyed me one time too many: when I first got civ3 (back in the days) the replay you get when you've finished a game (you know, the minimap that shows where you've build your cities, and when) worked fine. This was in civ3 vanilla, 1.07 or so.
A couple of patches later, it just didn't work anymore. But I found that by clicking "forward one turn", or disabling "event location" or something like that, I could get it to work. One patch later, I couldn't get it to work.

Any clues?

Hmm, maybe I havn't actually finished games recently then. It always worked for me in PTW though, you just have to wait a loooooooong time before it actually starts (up to 10 mins on my 1.7GHz).

Really? That's huge maps? I only play normal maps. It doesn't work on small maps either btw. But it used to work fine, so what went wrong then?

Yup it always worked for me but you do need to wait for a long time. Also if you play with stop, back and forward too much it messes up the cities and borders and you can just skip it.

I know I can skip it, that's not the point. I want to see it!

it really is faster now in C3C, but it still can take ages to start.

sometimes, I find the program doesn't take my click on PLAY the first time round though.

Hm, okay, I'll wait longer next time. Still, it *used* to work (fast) so somebody at firaxis screwed it up.

For a change.

I just discovered that it takes about 15 seconds to start the replay with my new computer. Good times.

Thread replay is the best replay.

Maybe now would be a good time to re-play Civ3.

Looking at the steam stats for civ6 there are a lot of people playing older versions instead. There are twice the number of civ5 players, although civ4 is only half. There are no stats for civ3, but since that is the superior version it can only be at least four times more than civ5. All playing pbem, obviously.

sometimes, I find the sizegenetics review https://alvenda.com/sizegenetics-review/ (https://alvenda.com/sizegenetics-review/) program doesn't take my click on PLAY the first time round though.

That's what I can't understand. It used to work faster earlier, but with faster systems, it is slower.

Two 1-post necromancers reviving the thread 2 years apart. Not even an April's fool. I'm impressed.

These are effective due to other condition because you are not more or less with these efforts

What is that, a low-effort google translate spambot? I find it delightful.

Usually I delete the bots, but this is fascinating.
