Not much has happened yet, I just finished my first settler after the traditional granary (which I had to research first).
This is my first C3C, I'm excited how it will turn out. Arghis took the Germans, mmh, not one of my favourite Civs. ;) So I chose Japan, don't want it to be too uneven.

This is a very nice starting position, I might even build two or more granaries. Mmh, but it's a small map, so maybe that would not be such a good idea. [ponder]

You have ivory close by. Mathematics and Ivory allow you to build the Satue of Zeus (Free 3/2/2 ancient cavalry every 5 turns)!

Mmh, good idea. I hope Arghis had ivory as well, otherwise I will feel I have an unfair advantage.

I don't know, but that lone ivory next to a cow is NOT randomly generated.

That's true. I might go for it if I live that long. [slay]

2670BC: Founded my 2nd city and connected ivory. I shouldn't have any happiness-issues anytime soon. Also sent out my first warrior to scout the area.

This just sucks!
My remote city that I founded in order to secure the Gems just flipped! [eek]

Looks like I'll have to kick some butt asap. [mad]

Thought it's time for a quick update.
I guess the picture says it all...

I finished two turns ago and was surprised to enter the Golden Age. A little early for my taste, since I had hoped to trigger it while being at war with the Sumerians (thus getting the GA also for the captured cities).
Other than that nothing special is happening, my Curragh could not find any 'secret' passages to any other continents, so I might do this whole "suicide-galley" thing everybody is talking about here. ;)

The Sumerians really piss me off, though. Not only have I lost the gem city, but they also blocked my other luxury ressource by building a freakin' city right in front of my workers (who were busy building a road to connect the luxury for a considerable amount of time, which was then lost, of course). [saiyan]

Golden Age has ended, I think I'll attack the Sumerians really soon since I just built my first Samurai...

Anyways, here some stats (note that this is AFTER Golden Age):

I think it looks pretty good so far. :)

Time for another update (is anybody even interested???):

We're moving pretty fast, several turns a day.
Eventually I assimilated the Sumerians and decided that the Netherlands and Hitties are next.
The Netherlands just to be sure that I won't get backstabbed on my own continent and the Hitties as my door to Arghis' continent.

I will pretty much stick with the Ancient Cavalrys for my crusade against the Netherlands, I think that ought to be enough. Plus, I need all the Samurai on the other continent.
Mmh, while writing this I got the next turn from Arghis. Mmh, got a leader where I not really wanted it. I had hoped to get one on the 'new' continent to rush the Heroic Epic and build up some culture there. Instead, I rushed it in the city I just captured...

And here an overview of the Hittie city I just captured. I sure hope it won't flip...oh, here is another save from Arghis. ;)

...as you can see I have 6 Samurai, 3 more coming next turn so I can do some capturing. [evil]

So when's the invasion? [:o]

Markstar
06-04-2004, 16:44
[?] Which invasion? Of Arghis?

As you can see from the minimap I'd like to "explore" the inner continent a little more or even get a world map from the AI before making any serious plans about that.
For now it's just shipping units over and see how it goes.
Maybe I'll attack Maya first, don't know yet.

Oh, I forgot to mention that Arghis built the GL. That means he caught up a little in techs and I am only discovering along the line of Education right now (I already have Astronomy and Banking, working on Music Theory now. Even though Music Theory is kind of worthless, since I don't think I'll build any more major wonders in this game.

Game is over!
I decided to attack Arghis after I took the Hitti capital.
Arghis brought all the AIs against me, but they didn't even dare to attack me because of my Samurai.
I kept Arghis busy with some of my Samurai stationed on mountains in his territory (New Hamburg). I think Arghis was expecting an attack there, since he had Swordsmen there.
But instead I moved a Samurai army on the mountain next to his wines and destroyed the improvents, before moving back and making a final push towards Berlin with two Samurai armys and a bunch of elite Samurai.

I was close to Military Tradition while no other Civ had aquired Gunpowder so far. I even had a scientific great leader which I used to rush Copernicus' Observatory. I was EXTREMELY dissappointed to find out that my scientific output only jumped from 60 to 90, instead of doubling it!!! :( I cannot believe that I played Civ3 for years and never tested that more closely.
It appears so that the improvements only affect the basic science output (in this case 30). Thus, Library gives +50%, as well as University. But instead of accumulating the increase (e.g. 1.5*1.5 (50% bonus for 150%), in this case that would have been 67.5), it is only adding it independantly (50% + 50%). Then the Copernicus' Observatory adds another 30 instead of 60. That sucks. I really have to reconsider building Universities in the future then, at least if I have other cities with the same income that do not have libraries.

Anyways, here the Histograph:

That was really fun game, Arghis and I already agreed on playing another one, this time I'd prefer playing in reat time, though.

Congrats again Markstar! [goodjob]

I am a little suprised you weren't aware that *all* city improvements only effect the base amount.

Thanks. Well, the only time I really noticed it was when I built Copernicus' Observatory AND SETI Program in one city. But I never really took the time to actually test what exactly was going on (I only started actual Civ-research when I came to CDZ. ;)).
I just always assumed that it works the same way as in Civ 1 & 2. Next game I start I will certainly double-check all my game-decisions!
