View Full Version : *SPOILER* Lt. Killer M vs. Irigy
Oh wow... first PBEM, round 29 and things go as worse as they possible could. When i learned that mongols are in our game, all i hope for was that they would NOT be on my lands, esp. not my neighbours, and guess what? Yes! [aargh]
http://wc3.ano-toto.de/civ/R28.jpg
Thank god my military is almost non-existant and i could'nt withstand the following situation:
http://wc3.ano-toto.de/civ/Egypt_Empty.jpg
Took me a while to figure out what to do... but i guess i made the wrong decision.
Oh well, more to come!
So what did you do then? took the city, and now you have SoD 0f 20+ WC's on your doorstep? :D
[hmm] ...an empty city! I would raze but it also depends on the level: if it is Deity for
instance, then the ai will have their bonus stack hanging around somewhere. If that is near your
core then you are fucked. If it is is monarch or lower then there will not be too many risks IMO.
Razing seems appropriate... [evil]
Since it is Monarch (not that i took that into consideration when i made my decision) i decided to raze the city - effectively "crushing" the egypt.
They used to be in the 2nd spot (right after mongols...) with points, now they are last. They also kindly offered me a peace deal with 20 gold and a free worker [coool]
Since then nothing too spectacular happened. There are at least four different lux res on the continent, but killer has at three of them (same type) as well. Trying to get iron (need to build a city there
since it's out of my cities range, and then build a ton of UUs and crush egypt (which have a stack of gems AND spices nearby).
Edit:
Newsflash!
Intensive studying of the recent scientific breakthroug by our great friends, the mongols [mischief] have shown they the didn't discover this thing called alphabet by themselves. Reports (and a little chat with Killer) show that they have contact with a group of men (and maybe women) called VIKINGS (=Killer).
Hmmmm! Hmmmm! That's sort of
not too good for us. Yuck.
And yet another update!
"Can you see those dark clouds nearing from the horizon?"
"Oh wait, it's already raining!"
We're currently a few turns after 70, and things are strange,
very strange (at least for me who never played a pbem before,
but read most of the spoiler threads here).
- the celts are lacking badly in science and have to buy knowledge from *tada* the mongols [cry] (who's laughing?)
- the celts have a rather weak military (all in all about 10 units, too embarrasing to give more details)
- the celts have ONE culture building and never even attempted to build a wonder
AND STILL: the celts are leading the score points? [crazyeye]
http://wc3.ano-toto.de/civ/Score_69.gif
And besides our rather weak military, we do good in comparisions:
http://wc3.ano-toto.de/civ/Demo_69.gif
And in the power analysis:
http://wc3.ano-toto.de/civ/Power_69.gif
As i said earlier this map is sort of a luxury overdose, and here's
the proof:
http://wc3.ano-toto.de/civ/map_killer_60.jpg
And now the question for our readers (thank you for staying with us!):
What do you think about the planned city placement? Good? Bad? Catastrophic? (yellow spots on map, maybe the pink one?)
I'd say the reason you are leading in score (apart from you beign the best player in this game :D) is because
of your land area !
You have what ppl call an "Optimal City Placement"plan and this sort of build is not favoured in PBEMs. In a nutshell :
Because games very rarely go beyond hospitals players feel it is not needed to have cities so far away.
Having them closer (a tight or dense build) not only helps with defense but also with MMing and sharing improved tiles.
More efficiency.
It is, I would say, a very important part of PBEMs.
More later on yoru placement and Science funding !
Optimal city placement? And i thought leaving only about 2-3 tiles between cities is tight enough? Oh well, back to studying the game mechanisms. [crazyeye]
On a second (closer) look your build is tight enough [wallbash]
Sorry !
Ah ok, thanks for totally confusing me! :D [:p]
Anyway, back to my "science problem". Appearantly those vikings
love to give money to the mongols and literally spoilt them with
everything, so that the poor celts may not trade their lacking
techs. [hmm] That's not good.
Any suggestions? :(
Just a short newsflash:
War has broken out!
Analysts predict a long conflict
++++ Egypt lost its capital ++++ Mongols declared war ++++
Shorty after the Celts started their righteous crusade against
the evil Egypt empire the treacherous Vikings bought the ever
warmongering mongols into the war against the brave celts.
Now the celts have two frontlines, but the victory is quite sure:
many Egypts and Mongols joined the Celts in their just cause
(read: a few slaves have been made).
Editory comment:
Since i'm quite sure that i'm responsible for only 60 of the 70
views of this thread, i think there's some interest in the further development of this pbem, and so i'm willing to write a more
extensive spoiler sometime later... BE WARNED!
[fdevil]
And yet another quick update:
Rejoice! War is over!
Fierce battles bring end to mongol dictatorship +++ the colossus is ours +++ dutch people met +++ the west is being settled +++ naval attack feared from the evil vikings
After long battles for their capital the mongols were finally defeated by the magnificient Celt armies. The Celts started their so called "second wave" of settlers and the whole known land was being settled.
In the process a lot of Dutch barbarians (warriors) were met. They pose no real danger, but did annoyingly settle near a source of gems. This primitive people also erected the pyramids! Imagine! (Much to the dismay of Killer :D).
In another development, our chief visionary noted a sudden surge of power coming from the general direction in which we think those red-beards dwell. Our military leaders fear a naval attack coming rather soon... [eek] [cry] [help]
Can we get a map and a date please?
Ok, so here's some data to support the latest news headlines:
Let's start with the good news:
http://wc3.ano-toto.de/civ/Killer/VStatus_122.gif
Not too bad, huh?
http://wc3.ano-toto.de/civ/Killer/Power_122.gif
Still positive i'd say, but note that dent a few years ago. Our analysts think that this is the point where the Scandinavians started to mass produce archers! From a source (Killer himself) we know that Trondheim currently produces 2 archers and 1 worker every 5 rounds [eek]. We can also assume that he's only two techs (at max) away from invention [eek][eek]
And it's quite safe to assume that he has ships ready to transport them once Leo's is done (which he surely is preproducing already).
[help]
To make this update complete, here's a mini map and our humble lands from birds perspective:

Thank you for your attention, and stay tuned for the next episode of "How the vikings slaughtered yet another helpless victim" [sleep]
The best way to beat an amphibious assault is to sink the ships before they reach shore! You can't underestimate how many boats you need to fight against Beserks in a human's hands.
Now it is too late to mass produce boats, but any galleys you can rush now will be well worth it.
Before despairing totally, do you have any idea of Scandinavia's whereabouts? Is he on the same island as the Dutch?
The minimap shown is only half of the actual map, but we don't have any knowledge of the other site. His currags came from the right. First contact with our continent was made somewhere near that small unsettled island right of that peninsula (on the right of the minimap shown).
Well first, well done on your expansion ! 42% of the world pop [eek] WOW !
Emperor is definitely your level and not Monarch ;)
First tip post a curragh or galley to the most earstern tile around that island as this is where the invasion might come from
if I understand right !
Also you need more map knowledge, as anarres says rush and produce as many ships as possible ASAP !

Hmm, helpless victim??
42% vs 20% population! You could even still settle some spots.
That and you can satisfy your folks with 5 (or more?) luxs. Ivory amongst them and I see Entremont has a ToA build going, so...[groucho]
Is Zeus ready yet?

Don't forget that the Celts leader (god know how he got there is the first place!) doesn't really know what he's doing... [rolleyes]
For examples, since the impending danger through beserks was realized, production was concentrated on war material. Public life (and production: libraries and markets for example) came to a halt.
Temple of Artemis was cancelled at some time in the past, and something else was constructed, which i'm too ashamed to name here. [blush2]
It'll go in the celt history as the [b]really really big mistake. Oh well, Killer surely enjoys that.
The only city that may build the Statue of Zeus is quite small, and won't grow much in any forseeable future, so it'll take very long until it's done, and the dutch are also constructing it currently, so i think we'll lose on it.
On the other hand we should start a war againt the dutch, before they get too strong, but we fear that as soon as we attack the dutch, the viking invasion will start, so we're sorty of petrified currently.
Just a short update:
The Celts are currently at war with the Dutch when the Viking ruler Killer himself not only announced "that the time has come", but also that he'll post a spoiler.
(After carefully checking that there was still a Celt nation when i received his turn, i figured out that i was indeed not already defeated... [party]).
Makes me wonder what he's got in mind exactly...
We can be pretty sure that the Vikings will come from the far east (right side of map) using those little islands (one of them was settled by the vikings!) to get to us safely. We also know that he's aware of our defend force (we put some ships near the coastal cities). So either:
- he has a lot of ships to waste
or
- he'll land somewhere else
Maybe he's going to attack me near former Dutch territory, where we are already fighting, but he must be aware that there are a ton of our proud warriors.
I think THIS time the threat is real. So i'll be starting to produce extra defenders. Hopefully the attack will not start within the next 4 round, because then he might be in for a little surprise. [coool]
Edit:
By looking at the Active Users page, we learnt that he titled his spoiler "Axes will fall on Irigys head" - isn't there some sort of Geneva convention against things like that? [aargh] ([help])
Remember to post your spoiler when the fun starts! :)
Ok, the game is almost over... Killer attacked, and i lost 5 cities so far - two of them very important one. I expect to lose 4 more (all important cities) in the next few rounds. My defenses are too weak against Berserkers. Killer had so far no losses at all through my defenses. All in all i managed to kill three Berserkers.
[wallbash] [headstab]
Thanks for reading the spoiler, [thumbsup] i hope you enjoyed your stay!
Here's just a small pic to show what i wrote about.
I marked destroyed cities on the minimap with red dots.

[cry]
Is there any hope? It looks fairly grim...
Well the core is still intact... :D

Hmmm, not counting the size 10,9,8,6,6 cities around the capital, that were razed... [hmm]
Yes, it's still intact! [king] [rant]
[headstab]
I'm currently wondering whether i should just give up, or try to keep Killer still a bit busy. I don't think he's currently able to really invade me (besides cheap coast city attacks).
What do you think? Is it worth it? [book]
I decided to give up - the situation was pretty hopeless anyway.
Congratulations to Killer!
