Turn 22:

I decided to build 2 scouts and then 2 workers first.

Popping goes well: 2x 25 gold and CB. The 4th one was good: on turn
16 I pop a settler near Madrid. It has to walk 8 turns to settle on a
nice spot south of my two cities.

Did some meet and greet with Rome, Spain and Korea quite early in the
game. Rome has a 'The Wheel monopoly' but I will have it in 7 turns,
soon to drop with Ulundi growth and the 3th city settlement. For the
rest us three are still even in tech.

As east of Rome seems to be ocean (not entirely sure) I figure the
rest of the Pangea will be westwards. With 3 scouts we will soon
know of course. Oh, a hut is in sight! [groucho]

Turn 30-something:

Last turn I finally discovered a passage to the other part of the Pangea. Last 10 turns I was
in serious doubt if Skyfish actually made a Pangea map (but continents). In all my doubts I
made some hilarious moves: First I thought the passage would be in the east sending 2 of the 3
scouts more to the right. When I found ocean in the southeast I decided the passage should be
west (left) moving the middle scout scout to the west. Then I found water in the west making the
middle scout turnaround (in Korean territory). Then I thought I was mistaken again (though there
was room for a 1-tile passage west) turning the scout around again. The next turn this
was definitely outruled turning the scout back east!!! [confused] A few turns later the eastern scout
finally circumnaivigated the southern Roman cities and climbed a far southeastern mountain
discovering more lands to the east. Finally I had discovered a passage! The Japanese were
closeby and were a trading partner too! :)

Right now my middle (totally confused) scout is moving eastwards. The eastern scout is moving
through Japanese lands and the western scout will need +/- 20 turns to get to the passage. No
Iroquois scout spotted yet, I assume to be first to get to the passage! That suprises me a bit
as I took so many turns to actually make it to the passage. My eastern scout took a southern
detour when moving east (because there was Roman territory).

Meanwhile Markstar took the lead in score! This is strange as I got a settler. Next to that,
I think he is a 'granary man' so extra early scouts and cities should a no no for him! He could
have bypassed granaries and have done the same as me of course... In any case I think he has gotten
a settler too, otherwise he can never have more points than me.

All in all, the fact that my early scouts gamble only partly succeeded (a settler, but rather late
contact with the rest of the world) and that Markstar bypassed me in score makes me a bit scared... [scared2]
I believe this guy is a top player. Looking at my riverless and cramped starting location I will
need some luck to be able to stay in the race!

I am even in tech with Japan and lack 1 tech compared to the Romans, Spanish and Koreans. I
am researching Writing but it is going slow. I hope that Markstar is way behind in tech when
I meet him! [evil]

EDIT: spelling + in turn 40 the eastern scout meets Markstar in Japanese lands. He lacks alphabet
and mysticism. That is good news for my Writing research!

Turn 40-something (46?)

Just to keep you guys informed! (I see Markstars forum attracts a lot of attention and I know he
does keep fancy spoiler threads.)

The AI\Markstar has been kind to me, selling/buying contacts with the Carthaginians and Celts with me.
Last turn I actually saw a Celtic warrior north of Japan. No Carthaginain units spotted yet. Both
suddenly contacted me offering tech deals! I got Writing and Iron Working this way! I was able
to trade HBR for Writing with the Celts too but let it pass by. I think I will be able to get it
when I get to map trading. Meanwhile I will build more Chariots (instead of Impies) for later
upgrade. Thus I am still waiting for MM (am researching it myself but these AI's are very
fast!). The Koreans have Philosofy and everybody has HBR. Markstar still lacks the same techs
(including Alphabet) as when I met him.

Dunno what Markstar is doing on research. I know he is going to abandom some shitty (free?) city.
We are still even in score. I have more units (F3) and more contacts/techs. Markstar jumped in
power (F8) which tells me (considering the same score we have) he must have settled again. So,
I think he has more cities now. The Spanish, my neighbours, just exploded in size, settling 4
extra cities in 3 turns, totally cutting me off to the south. The Japanese are hugh too. This is
a max landmass Pangea but I will have no room for much cities. It is clear that I will have to
attack the Spanish with impi-horse combo's as soon as I am out of settling-land.

Turn 54:

Suddenly all but 2 ai's have Map Making. Also Korea has CoL! I buy
MM for WM + some gold from Carthago and start a bunch of trading
rounds netting me the total WM, 150 gold, Philosofy, Mathematics and
HBR.

It seems Markstar has a difficult time but still managed to get 6
cities too (like me, thats [u]without</u> the extra settler. He got
his free city near the Celts, far to the south. Looking at Markstars
lands I think we took the same approach. He lacks IW, Alpha and Myst
and all the later techs. [eek]

The Celts and Carthaginians are at war with Japan. There is a hugh
warrior-archer battlefield north of Edo. There is also rubble south
of the Celts. This might be the ex-city of Markstar which he was
talking about.

I just noticed you are the only one to post here so far erikk! [eek]

I have been following (as usual), you seem to have everything under control...

Thanks anarres! :)

Turn 74

It is going OK with me and not so good with Markstar. While I was
able to have some trade rounds, Markstar was left backwards. Last
turn I was able to exploit my literature gamble netting me CoL,
Const, Poly and Curr. I am in the MA now with 3 of the AI's. Only
Carthago and Japan lack some techs. Markstar is about 10 techs behind
but is massing up on Carthago. His plans are clear.

Japan is fighting all its neighbours and is losing. The difference
between and ai in war and an ai in peace is clearly shown when you
look at Carthago and Japan versus Spain and Korea. Only the Celts
have profited from the war sofar. The Romans decided to go to war
too 7 turns ago.

This is a great spoiler ! Real good job Erikk !

I had to love the part about the scout getting lost tryin to find the rest of the pangea [lol]
;)

Thx! :)

Turn 87

The troop building is on it's way. Both Markstar and
me are on full mil. prod mode. Markstar is going to
attack real soon. I need some more vet horses and
impies before being ready. Spain looks quite strong
but I think they are on culture building mode...

Markstar has a good shot at the Great Library,
Carthage has been building it for a while and must
be in their GA by now... (or already out of it!). He
really needs it to catch up. He is still very backwards.

On military:
I am equal in military compared to all but Carthage (must be the
Mercs). Markstar was weaker most of the times but I suppose his
bigger cities produce units faster. He has already positioned MW
stacks at his borders. (My scout is hanging around, as his is near
mine.)

On war:
Only Rome is still fighting Japan. A phoney war has started some
turns ago between Markstar and Korea.

On tech:
Republic, Monarchy and Monotheism are known to some of the AI's
(IIRC). Most of them are equal to me except Japan that lacks two
techs and Markstar who lacks about 7 techs compared to me. Korea
is the tech king. Techs are untradeable for now. I am on Republic
on 20+ turns or so.

ERIKK

Turn 95:

Markstar is at war with Rome, Spain and Korea for
some turns now! Seoul has build thje Great Library
which means Markstar has to get the techs on his own.

raze Valencia, gain 4 workers
(no more horses for spain, 1 less iron)

AI turn 96:
AI lost 1 sword, GA starts!
lost at least 2 impies

turn 97:
kill 1 archer, set all stacks on a mountain near Madrid
MA with Romans and Korea against Spain, I need them to
draw some Spanish troops away! It seems they have loads
of archers and swords!

AI turn:
I lose more impies and have some retreats too.. I have
to scratch more impies from the cities the fill up!

turn 98
A bad turn:
kill none
lose a vet impi to a reg warrior and a vet sword to a reg sword
and a reg horse to a 1hp sword. Damn!
Set more troops on the mountain.

AI turn 98:
Not sure what happened, seems I had some retreats.
Looks like Markstar is at war with everyone except
Carthage and me! [lol]

Turn 99
Only troop movement, lots of new horses are made.
Move more troops on the mountain.

ERIKK
07-03-2004, 16:16
Continueing for earlier post...

AI turn 99:
lose an impi to a Med Inf, more troop movement. Trouble in
the east. New Spanish units popped up there.

Turn 100:
Decide it is better to settle near former Valencia in the
east as I don't know how many more Spanish troops are out
there. 2 new settlers will be ready soon to settle near
the dyes in a while.

Shuffle imps and horses to counter the eastern threath.
Kill an archer. Move rest of horses for assault on Madrid,
expose my swords east of Madrid, to draw away the eastern
Spanish archers and warriors. I have 26 horses now but they are
spread out along the entire front because of the sheer number
of Spanish troops! Seems the Spanish are not threathening the
Northwest anymore. Dunno where they want actually... [eek]
Next turn something like 8 new impies will be ready

AI turn 100:
I cant find anything

left in the city. I calculated on 6 spears as it has a
Wonder but 16 horses were not enough! :(
lose 4 horses and 2 impies,
kill 6 spears and 2 medinf in and around Madrid
First elite win, no leader.
Move more troops in reach of Madrid. I will take it next
turn.

AI turn 101
Looks like I lost some impies again, they have captured
a bunch of my workers...

turn 102:
Raze Madrid and it's Great Wall. Kill off most of the
Spanish units. I am very unsuccesfull and have like 10
retreats on killing 4 swords, 1 archer and 1 spear.
Lucky to only lose 2 horses. I wonder when my friends
the Koreans or Romans start hurting the Spanish...
Gain 6 + 4 workers.

After Madrid, turn 102:

spears and a MedInf. Lose 1 horse. Prepare for an
attack on Jean in the southeast and Toledo in the
west.

Ai turn 107:
Koreans destroy the Spanish city south of Santiago.

Turn 108:
Capture Jean but fail to take Toledo, a spear went
up to Elite... Lose 3 horse and kill 2 spears and
an archer this turn.

Markstar is doing very well atm. He captured 5 towns
in 2 turns... After that another one and then a pause...
My scout sees small stacks of Carthaginian units passing
by. Markstar has made up the tech shortage and we are
een in tech now. But if I sign peace with Spain the will
give me their techs. I just need to take a few more cities
to have them, give me [u]all</u> techs! [evil]

EDIT

AI turn 109:
nothing

Turn 110
lose an impi kill an archer. Prepare to strike at
Barcelona...

Do the two of you have the same landmass and starting spot? Looks like a keen job using the map-tweaker :)

ERIKK

They are exactly the same!

ERIKK

Update:

we are at turn 127 now. Markstar just finished off the Carthaginians and is looking at
the Celts now. I have Knights now and have to update my units first. After that it is
either the Romans or Koreans (they are very strong!). The game looks bleak for me. I
have the strong ai's and am slow on research. I did not get any leader. Markstar rushed
SunTZu's and prolly has a FP too... I hope toget a leader in the next war. I really need
it to make my lands productive.
