Map: continents (2, 3 make my day) just do not put me on the same continent as Erikk, since:
Civs: Erikk, Sumeria
Kingreno, Iroquois
Level: Deity Light (us an extra setler)
Barbs: Sedentary
Size: Standard rest up to the MM.

My start:

79.25KB

At first sight a crappy one but on second not so crappy: lots of
food and potential shields. To bad I must settle in the 'X' right
next to my capital. The mountainview gamble failed, if I settle on
the 'X' I will at least get a bonus grasstile. After that I will
start taking down the trees... [evil]

Turn 40-something

I am expanding very fast. I managed to get 6 cities near fresh water,
getting the nice food bonus in them. The lands arent that great but
good enough far fast early growth! The bad thing is that I have only
one lux (wines) and a second one (ivory) due south with jungles in
between. The vikings got one on average range from my core. (dyes)

Anyway, there is room to expand and I will grab those lands, before
starting any campaign!

I managed to keep up with research although Iron Working didnt netted
me much techs. The Hittits are leading but they are small in size.
The Viking expanded very fast but then stopped expanding. Some turns
ago they even lost a city (to a vulcano [eek]). They will be the prime
target I suppose. The Hittites will be the perfect weak ally. I am
not going for war for long as I even cant built any chariot yet...

I feel quite save with those E-warriors: they are cheap and have a
nice defense. Bad thing that they dont upgrade to swords but pikes.
Thus, I will need those chariots even more. :(

Hello there ! :D Well, a game with one of my map maker playing my precious Sumerians... couldn't resist. [goodjob]

At first I'm rather suspicious about your 2nd city placement : 2 tiles away, not very good land... but I can see the reasons : quickly settle, fresh water, low corruption. Sounds like a crazy deal, and so I will eventually find it interesting to see how this city will evolve. But I don't agree with this statement : "I must settle in the 'X' right next to my capital". You could have settled 1 tile south of the X tile, or 2 tiles south of the mountain ; maybe those forests would have had more potential... and your cities more space to breathe.

I'm quite surprised to see you have founded all those cities in such a little time span ! [eek] If the pic is from the 40ish turns. Even being agricultural and having 2 settlers in the beginning couldn't lead to so many cities, or maybe I'm wrong. BTW, it seems the capital isn't set as a settler factory, which could have been feasible. It seems you're rather playing like I was doing in Civ1 and Civ2 : no granary, and settlers in cities that can send population away ! Somewhat surprising but still, you managed to get all that land, do you have a secret ?

About enkidu warriors : apart from the stupid name, thoses units are great, one of my favourites ! And I was actually quite released to learn a few months ago that they upgrade to pikes, not to swords : those units are defensive ones and so are meant to stay as such. They fit the agricultural trait quite well : more food to expand faster, and so safety units to escort the settlers. [coool] Now I'm the 1st one to say this game needs to give the player the option to build both the UU and the standard unit it replaces. Just because warriors are in one way better than enkidus : they upgrade to swordsmen.

Yup, I havent build any city improvement yet. It is turn 48 and I have 8 cities and 4 more
coming up. I also build 3 workers and 10 E-warriors. This is fast and thats only because I
am agricultural. After those 4 I well re-evaluate (on settler or barracks -> chariot). I
will dodge Horseback as long as possible.

About the city: I settled there to be fast and have that bonus grassland tile. KingReno also
settled that close, I checked the score and we jumped in score exactly the same turn. I was a
little suprised as I see him as member of the 'granary-zombie-community'. He still did drop
in score 50 points compared to me so I assume he did build the granary in the capital and
probably the barracks in teh 2nd city (or another granary).

On granaries:
- having none means your city is size 7 or 8 mid MA while with one it is size 12 if you
have the luxes. You can reduce the size building lots of workers of course. That is a
big pro. But on Deity I feel you often are too slow to expand early to get the good sites.
If you are unlucky and get the Dutch, Mayas or the Incas as neighbour all the lands will
be grabbed very soon. (I experienced that they are ultra fast growers.). I do built
granaries, but not this game with the Sumerians! :)

In this game the ai's have like 300-330 points in turn 48, The Dutch have 350, me 310 and
KR like 260 or so. I need 40 more turns to get vet units on line. 15 turns for the extra
cities and then a few barracks and a bunch of extra cheap defenders. In between some
workers for wood chopping for the barracks and chariots. I figure I can attack around turn
90 or 100. Lets hope the Vikings and Hittites stay away that long.

Turn 74:

Damn KingReno got lucky and had his suicide curragh contact my
continent. Then he sent a galley with two units towards my far-away
town and forced me into GA! [rant]

Now I am building chariots in 2 or 3 turns in a bunch of cities and
will be able to upgrade like 20 of them at the end of my GA. I will
still attack the Vikings a bit but am pretty sure KR will show up
withg a bunch of mounted warriors soon. It's just a matter of being
for it. I think I can with my cheap defenses...

turn 93

KR jumped into anarchy, I jump into war! ;)

I attacked the Vikings and captured 3 cities. killed 6 spears and lost 5 horses! [eek]
Not a good ratio, I need better dices if I want to be effective!

Minimap before the attack:

- I have 35 E-mans and 20 horses (now 15).
- The Greeks are KR's neighbours to the east, I just spotted green
borders

turn 96:

All is going well. I just spotted the Dutch and they are at war with
KR. He allied the Greeks to fend them off. The Dutch must be located
on an island near KR. In any case the Dutch are a lot bigger than the
Portugeuse looking at their # of cities.

Trondheim...

Very nice indeed, but some more light blue and less purple would be preferable...

turn 112

In turn 111 I signed peace with the Viking. They have 1 city left. The
Hittites signed peace the turn before, very well timed. I jumped into
the MA, getting Engineering as my free tech. The Greeks have Feudalism
but wont trade.

KR is killing off the Inca's who were large and strong but have a very
bad UU, which they keep building. He is doing well with his MW's.

I am now in a 5 turn revolution to Republic while the troops are
positioning themselves for an attack on the Hittites.

Could we have an update please?

ERIKK

Did you know something I did not?

Yes, because when I opened the save I had a nasty suprise!

<<damn upload times out>> I had a pic of my empire with 4 landings
(1 big, 2 medium and 1 small) on it. Anyway the one on my SE was the
biggest and had the most cavs in it. I decided to attack it with 24
cavs. But I misjudged the musket army against which my cavs were unable to retreat... In the proces I lost 17 cavs and only killed 1
musket, 1 pike, 2 knights and 5 cavs and wounded more cavs and left
the musket army on 1hp... [aargh]

I could not touch his sw and ne landing groups and only hit his NW
group with 1 cav (2 of my nothern cavs came 2 steps short).

This game is lost!

Good Game Erikk! I enjoyed it a lot!:)

For the MapMakers. It may be wise not to put volcanoes anywhere near AI starting positions(or anywhere at all!!!) since its primary cities could evaporate:

Damn, sorry it is gone! It was an overview pic
(zoomed out) of a bunch of stacks... I posted some
pics on the open thread some time ago. All the
craters look nice.

I will post the final turn in this thread soon! :)

As promised, the warzone: ;)

This is when KR took my capitol and we finally ended this game!
Unfortunally you dont see all the craters that are outside the
fog of war.
