View Full Version : DDPP - the longest running civ3 - PBEM ever
THE LONGEST RUNNING CIV3 PBEM IS LOOKING FOR A PLAYER!!!
We need to find a replacement player guys. The save is in my drafts box waiting for a new recipient.
Any takers for the redwatch/aggie spot. Get yourself a seat in the LONGEST running PBEM for civ3!!! Even better get your hands on a 2nd hand civ that has been whipped and messed with by both Redwatch and Aggie. What more can you desire???
Add to the above that you will get an immediate spanking by my Japanese fighters!! [evil]

ahem, I already posted at CFC that I would take the spot (again)........ unless you prefer someone else, that is......
quote:unless you prefer someone else, that is...... Dutch? I am very interested, just like to read a recent update of DDPP.
Whoever will take over, I have some issues to discuss because a lot has been happening since I took over from Killer (who replaced me during my holiday).
quote:just like to read a recent update of DDPP
Whoever it is, he should have never read a DDPP spoiler !!!!
I dont see any reason why it should not be Killer [confused]
I was going to volunteer - but I have read all of Matrix's spoilers and I thought it was pretty stupid to take over from Aggie in that case.
I never read a spoiler on it. Just so you know.
I also think Col, Meli and I need a replacement for our 2vs2vs2vs2.
Well Stapel, maybe you can take over from me in a month, when I'll be going away for several months.
I have read all DDPP spoilers almost 2 months ago. A long time but I still remember to much of it, so that outqualifies me for that one.
Haven't read 2vs2vs2vs2 however, apart from the Open Thread, so would be more than happy to join that one!
We've only played 2 or 3 turns so it doesnt matter too much in 2x2x2x2!

Ah, so I can still blame Aggie if I make a mess of it [cool]
Shall I already reserve a slot? Most likely a fast mover this one ;)
I'm not the sole decision maker in the process, but as Killer is the first to respond in both threads I'd say first come first serve. Also he took care of aggies business before so he knows what he's getting into [rotfl]
I would be happy to be a stand in for Plux in the DDPP.
Beam, you are welcome in 2v2v2v2 (http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1258)
OK, please put Feb 28 in your agenda with a big red circle around it, and take the 3,5 months after off from work. I want a dedicated stand-in :D!

Well, I have abandoned the paper agenda 1 year and 15 days ago....
But I will type it in ;)
So it's settled that Killer takes over?
I prefer Killer myself (not that that matters) because I have good memories of our cooperation. ;)

no, I am not banned (AFAIK [eek]), they have server maintainance:
I am away until Monday or Tuesday.
sorry!
playing last round now
Is this a VB3 upgrade at CFC? [:o]
The game (30AD IIRC) is stuck between PP - Killer - Stapel - Matrix. PP sent the last save on and Kemal did not recieve the new one! This sucks as it takes a week now... Common guys, this is so disappointing! :(

hehehehe [yeah]
Killer has the savegame now. He thought he sent it to Stapel, but he hasn't received it.
So Killer, please resend to Stapel (stapel [at] civ3duelzone dot com).
Stapel is on holiday for a week! :(
I know. So Killer's got one week to send a savegame. That shouldn't be so hard, should it? [:p]

aargh! He should have been able to play before he left....
resending it ASAP.
on another note: someone SHOULD replace me - I'll be gone 23rd to 26th and then ALL JUNE!!!!!
Errm, is there anyone who hasn't read a DDPP spoiler yet? [mischief]
Although I wouldn't mind if Aggie took over the rule over Egypt again.
Now that Plux is back, he can take over the rule over Japan again. We don't know how long it will take before Stapel has internet back at home. And besides, Japan is Plux'. ;)
I've talked with Kemal about Egypt (some time ago) and we agreed it would be better if Aggie took over from Killer again, even though Aggie has read the spoilers. The situation for him is pretty obvious anyway, and Aggie simply has more time than Killer. This game needs to get moving again!
Of course I'll join in again! But I don't know who's turn it is and who still has some recent saves to start it up again. Moreover, PP is gone for a few weeks, so we'll have to temper our enthusiasm a bit anyway.
Erm, though I indeed agreed on getting Aggie (or someone else) to take over from Killer, that was only regarding the period that killer was going to be away on his trip to China... not to imply that killer was too slow and stalling the game. :)

I'm totally fine with aggie taking over again - but has this game moved at all since i left?
stapel, did you receive my turn or are you still net-less?
I'm available to take it over from Killer.
Stapel is still net-less, as far as I know, so you'd better send the savegame to Plux, Killer. Then we can get moving again!
Is ProPain back already?
PP will be away for some time still, I think, I thought he would be back early July..?
Ok, I assume Stapel still has problems with his internet connection, and the game is still with him.
If so, then is everybody (especially Plux himself) ok with Plux taking over his Japanese empire again? Either way, now that pp is back, we should get the game back on track again, if I understand correctly this is our current player list, if Stapel is still in:
1) Matrix
2) Kemal
3) Erikk
4) PP
5) Aggie (replacing Killer)
6) Stapel -> has save now.
or, if Stapel can't play anymore, Stapel replaced with plux. Since Matrix hasn't received a turn yet, for the game to get moving again:
Killer please send the latest save to Plux and Stapel, and either of you (whoever gets it first, I'd say) *please* play and send to Matrix.
It has been so long, lets not give up on this game now... :(
Well, I assume that we can get this one moving again with the (almost) original cast playing... Looking forward to being .... killed [lol]
Altho I'm currently not playing any real PBEM's anymore (except for ISDG), I look forward to receiving the first DDPP-save in half a year in my inbox again :)
Yes get this ball rolling again. Onwards to our second birthday!
I know someone predicted the very first month of play that this game would last 3 years at the then current rate. I know we can make this happen now we're already halfway there!
PP, can you send the last save to me? And should I then send the save to Plux?
Yup, that would be greeeaaaatttt..

indeed aggie! :)
Still no save to be seen...
All to do with PP's troubles to access a working civ-machine, I guess.. [sad]
I have 70ad as my last save, is that correct?
That indeed is the latest save... is there a possibility for you to send it to Aggie anytime soon? (With the pc problem etc..?).
No problem, I managed to save all my files to another comp. The only advantage of having multiple harddisk crashes in a short period of time. You know HD funny noises mean : quit everything, make backup now!
Will mail tomorrow, have to look for the DVD I burned my files on.
sent to hotmail. cant find your other account Aggie, could you remail that to me?
Sure. You can guess my account though. It ends with civ3duelzone[dot]com [tongue]
EDIT: I haven't received anything in the hotmail yet.
EDIT2: got it!
Plux, what is your mail again? I lost all my e-mail adresses a few months ago. I also like to mail Matrix, ERIKK and Kemal...
I'll PM all e-mail addresses to you, Aggie. :)
Thx :) I sent the save to Plux.
I thought that with me and Plux back that this game would again pick up speed. I guess I was wrong :( There seems to be no interest for this game anymore. That's a pity.
Well, this time PP has been away for 3 or 4 days to Switzerland, IIRC, so it's no mystery i think what's causing the delay. From what I've heard and understood from players, the game is still alive, at least with me it is! (Especially since I've finally constructed the Pyramids, after almost 4 months waiting, and I can understand that you want to play your turn as fast as possible as well now). ;)
I played it a while ago and sent it to PP. By the way: I killed an Egyptian warrior with a knight at no HP loss. Thus, I have only seen 1 save after the 'revival'...
I arrived in my mailbox thurday night 19:59 pm. I was already in the car driving to Lausanne, so I discovered it this morning when I opened my mail. Will play when I get home as haven't got around to install civ on my new laptop. So I'm still very interested in the game, but I simply couldn't play the save the last few days.
Good to see that we are still moving. Can't wait to get a couple of cities back.
Major disaster. My PTW cd broke, it now has a 3 cm crack in it. As I need to play in 1.21 to avoid crashes due to my ghost citizen I need a PTW cd. I mailed atari for a replacement. In the meanwhile I'll be looking for a no-deodorant file for 1.21 PTW. Please PM if you have no deodorant files for 1.21 available.
forget my last post. It turns out I had some no deodorant stashed away on an old backup. Playing now

Sent 110 AD to PP.
Take Abydos, it was emptey, capture Memphis (the new capitol), killing 1 spear with 2nd knight,
1st knight retreats. Immediately abandom it as a stack of 6 Egyptian knights are spotted nearby.
Alert to allies: stack of Egyptian knights south of former Memphis (left of the mountains).

Class? This was merely a way to reach all other players in a fast
way. I wanted to post a message with a pic anyway, just to revive
the game a bit again.
Though...I can imagine it's a bit annoying for Aggie to read this, ERIKK. But never mind now. ;)
But...where is the game now? [mischief]
Common page (http://www.straland.com/DDPP/) updated. ;) (Thanks to a reminder of Kemal.)
Sent to Kemal yesterday evening. :)
The USA army reports to have annihilated two Egyptian vet knights at no loses at all! Afraid of
the former oppressors running around their lands, the people of Byblos and Alexandria (forgot
the name) have fleed their homes! The word has spread that the Iroquois city of Giza was
occupied again by the Egyptian agressors!
Battle report:
USA reg knight 3hp kills Egyptian vet knight 4hp
USA reg knight 2hp kills Egyptian vet knight 4hp
I lose three healthy knights attacking two of the US and then the US can kill two healthy knights with wounded ones? Bleh....
The Egyptian army of knights kills three american knights without losses. And they liberate Thebes [party] Egypt will never surrender [rant]

aggie, I have also had a few weird battles, including a reg (IIRC) warrior killing a Knight but MWs defending against Knights at no HPloss.
Not "a" knight, but a fine-topcondition-shiny-armor-never-used-before Persian knight, that was! [aargh]
Fucking bestand got an army???
I have the save now, but I need somedeodorant (http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/topic.asp?whichpage=-1&TOPIC_ID=1911&REPLY_ID=29023) to play it. I can only play on my laptop since the motherboard of my workstation died on me and is now in for RMA, and so now I cannot power up the pc and open the cd tray which has the cd in it. Unfortunately CDZ's deodorant seems to be corrupt :(. Can anyone help me out here quickly?
Just played, thnx to PP, and sent to matrix :)
Matrix, if you still didn't get it, here it is:

My site doesn't seem to be working, so I'll have to upload the savegame as well. Perhaps someone could e-mail Kemal to tell him to check this thread?
Download Attachment: icon_paperclip.gif PBEM01 170AD.SAV (http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/uploaded/Matrix/20048305611_PBEM01 170AD.SAV)

Another thing: shall I close the DDPP thread at CFC?
Got it, I do check this thread regularly. :)
About the cfc thread, I'd rather see it left open, even though it's not really a "cfc game" anymore of course.
Hey! Smalltalk made the PHP thingy I've wanted to make myself, but wasn't able to. We can now keep track of the savegame! It does require you to go to this page (http://www.straland.com/turntracker/) every time you played the savegame. Would that be doable?
I've filled it in already. You may try it out; I can easily clean it up afterwards. (Just don't make it a habbit. ;)
Nice program, thanks to smalltalk. [goodjob]
I used it as well. Entered the info twice though. I feel so ashamed :(
Maybe we should make a link to your trackerpage on CDZ home, Matrix? It think it can work quite good!
I tried to fill in that turn tracker, but it doesn't show my entry (filled it in twice). But I sent the sav to Matrix
You had the same experience as I had. Now it is entered twice :)
You have to refresh the view when it is on your game. ;)
And it's so clearly stated after you've submitted!! [rant]
(No harm done. ;))
ProPain, I believe you have the savegame for two days now. [nono] [lol]
and for good reason. Will probably travel further tonight.
Ok.
Plux has it now anyway. ;)
US naval intelligence in the notheastern part of the Evil Egyptian
empire spotted a vet knight, a vet MedInf and a settler in the NE
corner. Also, the Egyptians have a new city in the NW corner AND
at least more 2 but prolly 3 vet knights protecting the NE-E shores.
Egypt is growing strong again! What are the Japs and Viks doing???

oh, whatever... ;) Just what are you doing? There were some
great chances for you and Plux in it! Looking at aggie's numbers in
the northeast there still are...
We're making great progress again guys, keep it up! [goodjob]
(Talking about turns played here, not amount of land conquered from Aggie so far... :()
I killed 4 of Kemal's knights and lost 4...
Still battling?! [eek] I thought you shood them.
Aggie are you sure about those combat results 2 posts up? Because either my knights turned into undead riders, or the units you killed belonged to someone else...
Anyway, I killed one of your knights with a knight of mine.
They were ProPain's I guess [blush]
The americans will - from now on - remember the year 250AD by referring to the "The massacre of Kahun"...
Aggie : I've got the turn and I'm confused. I havent lost 4 units, and I'd really like to know what attacked me and what exactly happened to those attackers. So could you sent me a detailed battle report?
I'm very sorry, but I obviously wasn't paying enough attention when I attacked. I have had problems with my concentration last weekend. What I know is that 4 of my knights are dead and an MDI took some hitpoints. I also know that I had two wounded knights in the field. Sorry :(
EDIT: Never mind... (self censoring).
He seems busy lately, so yes, probably.
But after a week I think we're allowed to start nagging. [:p]
ProPain, what's keeping you?!
I will be on a holiday from september 2nd to october 5th. I could be replaced during this period, but I haven't looked for someone yet.
On a general note: I haven't seen a lot of enthousiasm for this PBEM from all players lately. When I stepped in again I really hoped it would kickstart, but it only did briefly. I don't want to continue this PBEM when some of you see it as a burden to play. I'd then rather quit (although I don't think I'm the one to decide, since all of you played it from the start... I just want to start a dicussion to clarify).
sorry kinda fell of the radar. WIll play today.
PP
It's not the impression I've been given, ProPain. [???]
ERIKK has said from the beginning that he had a hopeless start and the game was hopeless for him anyway, but it seems to go rather well for him! The only one who might not like to play that much would be Aggie.
I'd hate to see this game die! Don't say such scary things, ProPain! [cry]
Added: On a more general note: it's not fun to play when you're losing for a lot of people (not me, I'm crazy [crazyeye]). But when playing a MP game with more than one opponent it's kind of an obligation to play till the end. The only exception would be if the [u]majority</u> doesn't want to continue.
??? Are you sure PP said this?
Oh, sorry. I meant you, Aggie. [blush]
You both have red avatars. [:p]
quote:Originally posted by MatrixOn a more general note: it's not fun to play when you're losing for a lot of people (not me, I'm crazy [crazyeye]). I stepped into the DDPP arena again KNOWING that Egypt was invaded by three countries and KNOWING that I would have a hard time. Despite that I showed MORE THAN ENOUGH drive and initiative to play. I'm not the one slowing the game down.
If you are not pleased with my enthousiasm, too bad. But then I'm not going to bother anymore. I don't respond well to terms like obligation.
[sigh] Don't feel offended. [rolleyes] I hate fights at forums!
Remember that I thought it wasn't you who wrote that, but ProPain. But you made it clear there that it's not you who doesn't like to continue, but that you had the feeling others didn't want to continue.
Never mind about "obligation". Of course no one can be forced to play. But quitting when you're not done yet does spoil a game. I repeat: it doesn't seem to be an issue at the moment, but I want to clarify anyway.
Added: That said, taking over the leadership of a civ already in a losing situation deserves all credits of course. ;)
I don't really know what to say, except for the fact that I'd really like ddpp to continue. These last days I've been playing Civ too much (KoD5 and lots of SP starts) while I still feel I need to step down. I liked KoD5, but I just regard playing hours of civ as a waste of time, which should have been used more useful. Still I find it hard to toss the game outside. That's why I like games like ddpp or ISDG, because they take only minutes to play and I still have fun. I NEED them for my regular dose of Civotine. So keep that radar focused plz, PP! :)
to be clear, I like ddpp and I sure want to keep playing it. I didnt notice Aggies post after my battle report request and that's why it fell of the radar.
Nobody wants to quit the DDPP as far as I know and all like to play/continue the DDPP as far
as I know. There is no need to start fighting over commitment.
If someone is to blame here, it is PP for stalling the game for a week. If one of us is going
away for a week he should tell the others to avoid these kind of annoyances...
Yea, but ProPain simply forgot. That could happen to anyone. No harm done, everyone likes to continue, so...I'm anxious to see the next savegame again! :)
I have no idea why this debate is being held in the first place btw, the game has been stalled for only a week or so, which is nothing compared to the stalls we already have had in earlier periods, plus it turns out that it is based on a simple misconception, since PP has been waiting on a decent battle report (which he and any attacker in any PBEM has a right to I think) but which never arrived, and pp didn't notice Aggie's statement that he couldn't deliver the report.
IMO, what's even more important than telling other people whether you'll be away or not, is that if any player at any stage feels he doesn't want to continue the PBEM, he'll inform the others so a replacement can be looked for, instead of having a player onboard that in reality doesn't really want to be part of the game anymore.
Sent it to aggie 2 hours ago.
In that case you might want to know that I'll be gone for a short holiday from this thursday/friday to tuesday next week.
I have the save now, and I will make sure that Matrix gets it before midnight.
Either some of my units have been mysteriously swallowed by the earth they were standing on, or there have been some unreported battles again...
Aggie?
I sent a battle report to your hotmail address (if that's the correct one...).
You're right aggie, thanks for the report. No idea why, but somehow hotmail classifies mail from you as "unwanted", so I hadn't noticed your report there.
And considering what's in the mail, hotmail is right, it is unwanted news indeed. :(

End of next week I will leave on holiday for 6 weeks (!). I saw Aggie
will be away for a while too and he has no replacement. All this can
result in a delay of minimal 7 weeks. That is too much IMO.
We must find 2 replacements...

Opps hang on..i just remembered i'm on 2 weeks holiday from next week sorry.
Ask Matrix. He can gift all your cities to himself and mass build berzerks against your foes ;)
I think it's almost impossible to find a replacement player who hasn't read the spoilers.
Anarres would be quite qualified to replace ERIKK, since he has done it before. Just a suggestion...
But as you predicted, I've read the spoilers... [ponder]
I think most spoilers haven't been updated in a while (not mine anyway). So if someone rises who hasn't read the latest updates of some that have been made (eg Kemal's), I'm fine with him/her steppin in.
It's quite a while ago I read the spoilers so I would be more than happy to do some housekeeping the coming weeks. ;) Is there still a choice?
Yeah you can take over my jungle brothers!
Beam will replace me. Kemal please sent the save to Beam, starting on Thursday. :)
Great!
But now we still have Aggie without replacement.
And meanwhile I also haven't seen the savegame. According to the turn tracker ProPain should have it...
I haven't seen the save in ages, but I want to mention that Stapel will be taking over from me in two weeks or so. Then I'll be moving and I don't know when the new place will get online. I'm still orientating on which ISP to have.
Who is the last known player?
quote:I'm still orientating on which ISP to have.
I can really recommend Demon 8Mbit. :) Should bring you on-line in a matter of weeks instead of months as with MxStream.
I think the save is with aggie, and since he's not here and has no active replacement, it looks like it is going to be some time before the next turn will be played. :(

That's what I have now and I agree, it's great! Bit costly though to cough up that money on my own. But if I can get the other inhabitants to join in indeed it will be Demon again. If not, I'm thinking of Zonnet Family, 1024/368 for 20 euro/month
Well, it appears we're almost all a bit busy. I'm moving as well. (http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1989) But I think I'll be able to continue playing continuously.
In any case, Aggie is gone now and has no replacer. So we'll simply have to wait till he's back?
I sent the save to aggie quite a while ago. I guess we have to await his return
Played the turn (with an enormous jetlag...)
Aggie did send the save to Plux, but he asked me to play it. I got it here, bu have some questions.
Does anybody know if Plux is really gone, as I would prefer some directions.
Are there any future techdeals, peace deals or other things?
Stapel, I just pm-ed you classified info :)
Well, I played and sent the turn to Beam 10 days ago, I suppose the game hasn't moved since then.. :(
Beam are you able to play the turn, or have you played it already? Otherwise, I suppose we could wait for Erik to return, that shouldn't be long now anymore I guess.
I can't open Aggie 280 AD save in PTW 1.27 f
Scenario invalid
Could not open the scenario file. The file may be corrupt.
And then:
DataIO operatig system... bla bla bla
What to do?
Aggie CAN open it.....
I played it with the C3C CD. I try again with PTW in the CD-ROM.
EDIT: It turns out that I had to use the C3C CD-rom, but in PTW mode, not C3C mode [blush] Strange that I could play the game in C3C mode though... (I think it's strange anyway).
Yey! The game goes on! [yeah] I sent the game with the turn tracker!
In the turn tracker, I replaced the fill-in-yourself box with a drop-down box. Let me know whether you find this an improvement.
Sent using the turn-tracker a few days ago, but that means the game is with Erikk now.
Is erik back already, or should I send this one to Beam instead again?

I keep on nagging until the game starts rolling again! Though sometimes it seems like it's not that the game can't get over a hill top, but that the game itself is cube-shaped! If you get what I mean... [rolleyes]
I know what you mean. The game is cube-shaped and my game is going pear-shaped :)
I received the save via turntracker, played it and added my bit to turntracker as well. Hope this went well.
Normally it did, but now I received the save iso Stapel, and I'm still not ready to play. I have internet @ home again, but have no civ installed, and I'm kinda relaxed with that. Matrix, can you put Stapel's address in the tracker, plz? I'll forward this to him myself.
I'm going to drop out. I lost all interest in CIV3 and don't find any joy in playing this one. Especialy because we only play 1 turn per 2 weeks on average.
Well, if we only play once a week it's not that much trouble to play, is it? [mischief]
(Just trying to save what can be saved.)
I fear that if you quit - we will have big trouble finding a replacement, since so many people have read the spoilers already and the game might really die?
Why can't this game run as smooth as other multimultiplayer games? [cry] We're all experienced players who have a reputation to play our other PBEM's at a normal decent speed. Just look at how fast Cunctator (http://www.straland.com/turntracker/cunctator.php) is and was going! Why not DDPP? Only because you have to start PTW instead of Conquests?

i beleive it is simply to many players and the odds of somebody slowing it up seem follow the following equation
Time to play = (Geographic spread) to the power of (number players involved x there relative availiblity).
Where geophrahic spread =
1-2 for everybody in the same room
2-5 for in the same town
and getting higher for seperate coutries
and impossibly high for continetal divides.
I won't play anymore and that's final.

So whats got your attention now Aggie, your photgraphy hobby...or shock horror another game [:o] betrayal of the highest order.[luke2]
I have picked up sports again. I joined a sports school and had them create a training program. I have a couple of goals for next year: the New York or Rotterdam marathon, climbing Kilimanjaro and cycling in the Alps. This requires me to train 5 times a week (especially the marathon...). Regarding PC games, I am now into Rome: Total War and am eagerly awaiting Half Life 2...
Ok, Aggie. I guess we'll have to find a new player then. [wavey]
game to PP! (for what it's worth...)
As I do not know what is going on (I even do not know what civ Aggie had) I could jump in. I would like to know some details about current deals and diplomacy, setup of the game etc though.
Played and sent using the turn tracker, read this later. This means the turn is at Aggie now who just quit. I'm ok with grs replacing Aggie and will sent to him. Could you pm me your email GRS?
grs, you can find info in my DDPP spoiler on this site.
Welcome indeed grs, and thanks for taking over from Aggie. :)
ProPain said he sent the game to grs. As newcomer I trust he's played it already. ;) But did he send it to Stapel?? Cos I believe Plux is still gone...
If not, you can just use the Turn Tracker (http://www.straland.com/turntracker/ddpp.php), because I updated it. :)
I did not receive any save yet.
I received a turn but it's a C3C save, not a PTW save. Did we switch???
I don't think so, can't say for 100% certainty, but I thought I did use ptw to play.
Perhaps erik can provide more clarity?
yeah, I played it in c3c, i thought we switched a long time ago...
should I play it in ptw and sent it again???
EDIT: replayed and resent it!
Sorry! [blush2]
Kemal already played, but didn't use the turn tracker. That should mean it's with ERIKK.
What's keeping you??
I just got it from ProPain and will play tonight.
Ok. :) Please don't wait too long!
Kemal and I have been reviewing DDPP and came to two conclusions:
1. The people who have played this game at least once are: Matrix, Kemal, ERIKK, ProPain, Redwatch, Plux, Aggie, Killer, Skyfish, anarres, KingReno, Beam, Stapel en grs. [:o]
2. Kemal and I have never been replaced. [yeah]

PERSEPOLIS HOSTS 350 AD FASHION GALA
************************************************** ************
Shah Kemal once again a trendsetter taking on a completely different style of appearance
Persepolis, 350 AD, from our reporter:
Thousands of people crowded today in the magnificent Persian capital of Persepolis, where the annual fashion gala was held, allowing designers from all over the world to show their newest collection for the world to see. Once again, the gala was a great success, not in the least because of an unannounced, special appearance of the Persian Leader Shah Kemal, who has decided to do away with usual garb and held a special conference showing the world his completely new and progressive style.
To quote the persian leader, on his reasons to change his appearance: "...'Progression', with the "P" of Persia, is what leadership is all about, and that ridiculous medieval jester's suit was just so totally outdated when looking at the achievements that the Persian society has made in recent years, that one had to make the decision to try out something completely new".
The Persian Times is proud to present the first pic taken by our reporters at the scene:

It has been rumoured that other world leaders have been dying to get their hands on the so far undisclosed designer of this new spectacular style of clothing, and that several approaches have been made to contact the Persian Leadership about this. The outcome of these communications so far appear to be unclear, of course make sure you get your copies of "The Persian Times" to be totally up to date.
Miss it, Miss out!

WAR IN EGYPT INTENSIFIES

Persepolis, 370 AD
After years of what some experts already classified as appearing to be a semi-permanent cease fire between Persia and Egypt, the Persian Leadership recently issued a massive deployment of troops near the western front.
Initial reports seem to indicate that a military force consisting of close to 50 divisions of newly trained cavalry regiments have landed near Egyptian borders, close to the Egyptian capital of El-Amarna. It is believed they will be spearheaded by the 1st elite knights group, who are said to be carrying nearly obsolete equipment, but have a fanatical dedication to their Persian Leader, which makes them a likely candidate to be the first to engage any approaching enemy.
Observers of international relations are undecided whether the sudden Persian offensive in the west may be connected to the atrocities commited by Egypt against longtime Persian allies the Americans. The horrifying images of the burned american settlement on the western coasts of the continent caused a wave of resentment against these treacherous acts amongst the Persian population, who appear to be in full support of the recent Persian military activity.
Speculations about a joint effort vs the Egyptian aggressor, like the world witnessed a few hundred years ago, have so far not been able to be confirmed by your reporters.
I guess this is photoshopped, yes? Come on, say it is. It it photoshop for sure - maybe even freehand...aahhhhhhhhh.

The Japanese declared war to the Iroquis.
Six cavalries were discovered in Straland. Now there are only 3, all redlined.
Ok, ok, ok.....
So I had some glorious moments while fighting the 6 Iroquis cavalries....
Nothing compared to the fun Egypt will have with the Persian Stack of Doom.
ProPain has a third enemy as well. [tongue] Two more of his cavs are down. [evil]
Hey Plux, I went to that website and was really disappointed to not see a single gimp on it! [cry] [lol]
Bad luck, I killed only one knight and 3 cavs while losing 3 knights. Persia still has more troops than fit on the screen. I will lose from 3-6 cities next turn.
I redlined one of the Iroquois cavs near Straland and lost another knight there.
People, I'm reading reports on the battles here however I lack serious battle reports (grs excepted) Just telling me what I lost is not good enough as I can see that myself.:) I wanna know what attacked me and what they lost in hp, possible promos and the likes. Thanks in advance.
PP
But of course. I just sent it.
I encountered 6 Cavs, one redlined, 5 were 4/4. I first attacked with 4 or 5 cats, I think, then hammered your cavs with my Medievil Infantries. I think I have lost 2? don't really remember.
I had 6 cats, 3 3/3 medievils, and 3 4/4 medievils.
I replayed, but the outcome is totally different. We have no fixed seed? Weird.......
I believe we do have. If we don't...we don't know it! [talk]
Perhaps you used another order the second time.
Persia reports 4 Egyptian cities that have been "pacified" at little losses, in 3 of those the citizens were incapable of grasping the true meaning of the Persian way of life, offering continued resistance to their liberators, forcing the Persian army to put these cities to the torch.
Furthermore, a large battle took place in the jungle near Giza, resulting in a victory for the Persian cavalries.
(A detailed battle report is on the way to grs, of course).
ProPain, did you play it (without updating the turn tracker)? If not...well, please do.
I move my 5 catapults and 5 Med Infs to the north.
I catapulted one cav to 1/4 and one to 3/4. After that I killed them both.

Shah Kemal addresses nation
***Japan attacks Persia***War in Egypt continues***
************************************************** ********************
Persepolis, 390 AD
Following recent events in the west, Shah Kemal addressed the nation of Persia today, speaking on the situation of Persian troops at the front, and the attack on Persia by Japanese troops.
The complete text, as spoken by our Great leader at a conference in Persepolis:
"
My fellow countrymen!
Yesterday, the 12th of december 390 AD -- a date which will live in infamy -- The Persian Empire was suddenly and deliberately attacked by ballistic and ground forces of the Empire of Japan.
The Persian Empire was at peace with that nation, and not any communications indicating hostile activity against Persian countrymen had been received from the government or leader of the Japanese.
It will be recorded that the distance between the Empire of Japan and the place where the attack took place makes it obvious that this attack was deliberately planned years ago.
The attack yesterday, taking place near the ruins of the former Egyptian city of El-Amarna, has caused severe damage to Persian mounted forces. I regret to tell you that very many Persian lives have been lost, with the 36th and 37th cavalry regiments being surprised and overwhelmed completely.
Japan has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the former Egyptian area. The facts of yesterday and today speak for themselves. The people of the Empire of Persia have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our nation.
As commander in chief of the Army and Navy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense. But always will our whole nation remember the character of the onslaught against us.
No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated attack, the Persian people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.
I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Japan on December 12th, 390 AD, a state of war has existed between the republic of Persia and the Japanese empire.
"
Though there have been some doubts regarding its exact origin, the Shah's speech was very well received throughout the Persian Empire it seems, as the population seems determined to overcome this new task set before them, with polls indicating almost unanonimous support for the war in the west.
Meanwhile, after 20 years of intense combat, a breakthrough seems to have been forced against the Egyptian empire, with several commanders reporting victory in a massive offensive campaign against Egyptian fortifications that has been taking place recently.
Based on the unfortunately only limited information available so shortly after the campaign took place, military experts have assessed that current state borders might have to be redrawn severly. Based on their assessments, The Persian Times has compiled the following picture to supply their readers with the necessary information:

Of course, continued coverage of the war will be delivered in forthcoming issues of your favourite newspaper, The Persian Times!
[u]Announcement</u>
I have been questioning about this for days, but reached my conclusion.
I have a non-agression pact with Persia which lasts for about 10 turns. I have a military alliance with Egypt (and Japan). Egypt has been Straland's best friend throughout the entire game, and since Kemal is the aggressor I should legitimately declare war to Persia. The enemy of my friend is my enemy.
It's a very fundamental question for me what I ought to do: try to keep my chance of winning at maximum (we're talking about 0.1 to 0.2%). Or try to keep the only thing I have left: my honour?
I'd rather keep that.
Straland will declare war to Persia!!
http://www.straland.com/images/smilies/suicide.gif
[lol]
Right! Last thing I heard was:
Fact 1: the fact that tons of Samurai's were walking in your lands...
Fact 2: Japan 'Pearl Haboured' Persia...
Fact 3: you are pissed off because you are not wearing the latest fashion...
Maybe all that helped your decision to NOT keep up to an agreement?

That's what allies let each other do.
If I didn't want that I wouldn't have signed a Right of Passage with Japan. Then the quickest way for Japan would be throught Egypt.

quote:Fact 3: you are pissed off because you are not wearing the latest fashion...
No, rather because you three are so tight-lipped.
quote:Maybe all that helped your decision to NOT keep up to an agreement?
WTF?!? There exists only one reason to declare war to Persia, and that is honour. He was the aggressor. He fucked up. I'm signing my own death sentense here just to maintain my loyalty, and yet you accuse me of breaking a treaty?!? :( Kemal broke it. He knew about my friendship with Egypt and should've known better.
ERIKK, you have a big mouth for a parasite.
N.B.: this is in-game anger... [mischief]
Not to stop your role-playing, but I am waiting for the save for some days. I want to manage my 5 or 6 remaining towns and I am eager to know where my capital has jumped this time :)
Matrix, just from an objective point of view (hmm, can I do that?), your reasoning for your delaration of war on Kemal, could only be legimate within game rules when you would've signed a MPP with Egypt, which of course cannot yet be done (I take it you don't have NAT yet). So, imho, your war declaration officially can't be caused by the RoP/NA with Egypt and so purely affects your relation with Kemal. Meaning breaking the peace treaty with Kemal leads to rep hit points for you. Following the in-game rules, you should've waited with intervening until the peace treaty ran out.
Of course, all this doesn't say at all that I don't understand your line of thought, just think it wouldn't hold when you have to explain to International Court of Law in The Hague ;)
Well, following your same reasoning I also can't have a peace treaty with Kemal which has to last for another ten turns. We just had a peace treaty; no "(10)" behind it. [rolleyes]
No Plux, if I had a peace treaty for 10 turns with Kemal, than I just as much had a mutual protection pact with grs.

Hey man, you just shouldn't insult my best friend, who is in fact the most generous, noble and handsome man on our planet!!!!
Excerpts from notes taken at a top level meeting of the Persian government and military commanders
"
(...)
Foreign Advisor:
Mighty Shah, we've received word from the Straland government that, contrary to the agreement that they, fully conscious of the ensuing consequences of their participation in that agreement, signed with us only 9 turns ago, they have declared war on Persia. We're now in a state of war with the treacherous Straland people, led by the outlawed rogue Matrix, curse his name.
The Straland ambassador has issued the following statement, indicating they felt they needed to break the treaty because of their loyalty to their at this moment almost eradicated Egyptian as well as their Japanese friends, indicating they had no choice but to declare war on us as they've been allied with Egypt (and japan), and saw us as the aggressor against the Egyptian empire.
Military Advisor:
If I may speak, Great leader..?
History of our relations with the nations of Japan, Egypt and Straland clearly show a very different situation than the one Straland tries to trick us in with their false statements.
As is known throughout the world, the war between evil Egypt and the Glorious Persian, American and Iroquois empires has been raging for hundreds of years already, and while of course the reason to attack Egypt were totally legitimate, as their people suffered tremendously under the oppression of the foul Egyptian pharaoh dynasties, those not enlightened could, in their barbaric ways of thinking, see us in an aggressor's role here.
HOWEVER... I'd like to stress here that the Straland empire actually signed the non-aggression pact with Persia while the war against their so called "allies" the Egyptians was already decades old, with Egypt having suffered tremendous losses already. Yet, Straland showed no hesitation whatsoever to sign the agreement, and even traded luxury goods with the Persian empire during the war. Therefore, claiming it could break that treaty now on the basis of something that happened in times before that treaty was fully consciously signed, can only be seen as empty and meaningless words...
And with regard to the war between Persia and Japan, calling Persia the aggressor here is a completely outrageous statement considering the dastardly attack the Japanese forces made on Persian troops.
At no point in time has Persia ever pressured or threatened the japanese empire, yet they chose to attack us, indeed even to attack us outside their own territory, without giving any warning or possibility of continued peaceful relations to the Persian Government.
Independant watchers all over the world will confirm that the only aggressor in this war will have to be the Japanese, certainly not the Persians.
And the Staland leader, Turncoat Matrix, even goes as far as applauding this unprovoked hostility commited by Japan, and stating that Persia actually broke the agreement by waging war against the Egyptians, which as said our nation was already in the process of when the treaty was signed.
Shah Kemal:
Hmmm, thank you for sharing your insights on this situation, my close advisors, I'm sure though that this must all be a misunderstanding, and things can be sorted out by diplomatic means.
Make sure a meeting between me and the ambassadors of Egypt, Straland and Japan is arranged, and we will make sure they will better understand our nation's point of view with regard to their great nations, and their splendid cultural and domestic achievements..
All advisors speaking at the same time:
But sir we can't just.... we need to show them there's no messing... they can't be trusted...
Shah Kemal:
Just get it done! And make sure each of them gets a proper ceremonial escort by our most trusted immortal palace guards...
Foreign Advisor:
Of course, as you command my liege.

NO QUARTER!!!
Peace is no longer an option! Let the whole western continent know it is MINE!
----------------------------------------------------------
Now, speaking as ddpp player, regarding in-game matters:
@matrix: While I can perfectly understand your decision on declaring war, claiming you save your honour by declaring war on me and breaking our agreement is one thing (fine with me, though I don't agree with that point of view), but stating I "fucked up" and I "broke the agreement" we had because of a war that has been going on even since *before* we signed our non-aggression pact, and because of an attack made on my troops by Japan, is very much off the mark and quite uncomprehensable to say the least, imho.
edit:fixed typos
From the outgame view of someone who has just taken over: I was very surprised when I heard Straland was trading luxes with Persia. I was even more surprised when I heard you even had a non agression pact. I am probably not of any skill to critisise my predecessors, but I would never take an ally that trades and has agreements with a nation I am at war with...
Oh, what the hell.
It seems I'm losing this game in all ways possible. I'll stick to my ROP with Japan and Egypt and will simply attack anyone entering my territory.
I'm diplomatically in retreat.
quote:Originally posted by grs

But despite those actions, this ally does seem to be very loyal to Egypt until the end, risking his reputation (imo) by declaring war on a nation that has about 40 vet cavs parked just outside his borders, while having a non-aggression pact active with this nation that would guarantee Straland's safety against Persia for at least 10 more turns, and with that Egyptian ally possibly fighting a lost cause already.
quote:and with that Egyptian ally possibly fighting a lost cause already. I like your humor...especially the word [u]possibly</u> [lol]
Question remains...will Propain release the save or not ;)
And will stapel do so... if he has received the save, hopefully the turn tracker has not sent it to the duelzone mail-address, which is still down I suppose?
I have sent it twice: once through the turn tracker and once to his other EMail adress Matrix gave me. He should have it for 2 days at least. If not I can resend it, but then Stapel needs to tell me another adress.
I won't play before tuesday.

Grs, thanks for the effort of taking over a civ in such a hopeless situation. I hope you enjoyed it at least a bit.
Why did you abandon four of your last five cities? If you didn't want Persia to have it, why didn't you just retire?
I did abandon them because I did not have a single defender in them.
I removed grs from the Turn Tracker so that ProPain can continue using it, assuming the e-mail of CDZ is working again (since stapel has it's e-mail address there)...
And I've updated the common page (http://www.straland.com/DDPP/) again.
I particularly enjoy that shifting minimap image when viewing the entry on the Egyptian leader grs... [:p]
Well done Matrix!
