[u]Before concluding anything while reading this thread: Spain starts with an extra settler compared to Sumeria.</u>

Sky, erikk and me are playing a very practical joke with annares here. Compare the two starting locations here and in the open thread. He is still convinced about the seals, white tiles and funny cut off tiles [cool]. I will allow him a sneak view later on tonight.

Turn 63: Barbs on the doorstep, better spend the cash at a peek on Ur. It has got settler factory, tech buying, MM etc. written all over it. A learning exercise.

Turn 78: anarres updated his spoiler so i'll do the same.

Most amazing is that Sumeria still only has BW, Alpha, Pot and CB, while Spain only lacks Cur and CoL for the MA, needs Lit and Rep as well. Spain is ahead by Phil, Mon, Constr. apart from the Iroqs where we exchaned Mon. for Constr. plus cash. I can only conclude that he will catch up otherwise he would not play it this way:
- By prebuilding GL or hoping to catch it somewhere
- By attacking AI and demanding tech for peace
- By paying cash (but that means bying 7 tech without trading options just to get par with the AI!)

Not amazing is that Sumeria is 87 points back in Civscore and has 7 cities vs. 12 Spanish. Spain has almost finished expansion and can start thinking about war with Arabia.

I don't know what strategy anarres is following, but it appears to me that the glory days of min science are over (up to deity, don't know about sid [:p]). The curragh, late contact exchange and Philo changed a lot here!

Beam
17-01-2004, 18:31
That is exactly what I am leveraging on Aggie! And be sure Lit. will go to a Civ near me real fast.

Turn 86: Previous turn anarres apparently bought Writing because some AI got big wallets. All that money is in Spanish banks now :) Ended 85 with 1007 g in the pocket :D A true reason for the religious Spanish to revolt. But with Curr. in 4 turns that is rather stupid.

Nxt turn the Iroqs have Curr. and are happy to sell it for 70 pesos. CoL is being invested in now, and that is the last tech needed for MA! Meantime a 2 turn revolt is started.

There is one weak aspect, no Civ has Lit. nor CoL yet and that could be anarres' escape.

For some obscure reason I have found that the AI really does not like to research Literature...

I have seen Sci civs work on Theology rather than Literature.

After Currency I would strongly advise you to get Literature quick.
It dont cost much to research and means you can get libraries and push (rush [:p]) your already fantastic advantage...

(yes I realise you started with an extra settler)

Thanks for the advice Meli and I realized the same couple of turns ago but it was too late.

anar got Lit :( 2 turns before me and is just Curr., Con, Poly and MM behind. I traded Curr for Lit + gold with the Arabs and made sure all AI have Lit and Curr.

As can be seen on the minimap initial expansion is done and preparations for war with Arabia are underway. Once the army is rolling libs are going to be build.

Turn 105: Started war with Arabia 2 or 3 turns ago. Rather uneventful, Swordy stacks mainly have to battle some spears and 2 Archers plus 1 Horsie tried to scratch some paint of Swordy armament. Gov is Mon. still.

Sumeria is still 4 techs behind and prob set their hopes on Rep. I left that for a purpose because in a SP testgame I recall the AI were not willing to spend a lot on mono Rep. Could be different this time however, we'll see!

You had a 2 turn revolt???? That's really short, what level is this?

Spain are Religious I believe and it is a C3C feature that Rel civs get either a 1 or 2 turn anarchy: really shitty change...

Aggie
22-01-2004, 10:04
Firaxis already acknowledged that this was unintentional. They plan to reduce the standard anarchy again and also bring anarchy for religious to one in a next patch. Or so I have read.

Lol, firaxis for sure is changing back a few things that the breakaway guys brought in.

Break Away have been sacked immediatey after release when all the bugs came out (like within 12 hours ?)
Imagine the scale of this Beta period with all the 1000s of people involved, the millions Firaxis invested for this and the result ? One of the worse Civ release ever....
Absolutely sickening. Dont know if Break Away is responsible but I know crap work when I see it believe me !

So, you and anarres both not at work today, I see a power session coming up today! [satan]

Anyway, what's your view on current events in this game?

Beam
23-01-2004, 17:53
Truckloads of work to do, so not really time for turns yet today.

What sucks is that anar is in the IA now, but still has to finish the Vikings, while my war vs. the Arabs is near completion and I can start focussing on building the empire and see if an early invasion is a viable option.

Fucking Literature :(

Beam

anar just settled peace with the Vikings with 3 Viking cities left. Just got Mono. Two AI have Chiv., anar might have as well, or most likely is researching it since we are real close now. He will have to do something about retention of Viking stuff however. Spain is progressing well with building the empire and 8 turns from Chiv., will soon switch between city imps. and horsies.

Kay, here is the minimap. The one Arabian city on Spanish soil is a flipper. Just waiting til Arab peace is finished, then terminate. Main issue is how the tech race will develop. The zoomed out map clearly displays how close we are.

Long term no update [blush2]

Turn 129 now, a 2nd city just flipped back to the Arabs but the good news is that I could do some excellent trading because the Iroqs entered the world market without horses and wine. They gave Engineering and 35 cash, traded Engineering around for a net 30 gpt and enough cash to buy Chivalry out of the pocket. Did a second round of trading and got some extra cash.

Although anar appeared to have all of the above the good news is that there is a chance he hasn't Invention yet because only the Iroqs have Invention and TGL is with Lizzy. But that could also be due to lack of contact.

The only reason I can think of anar having researched / gotten Chiv is an attack before MT. Which was to be expected. I hope there is enough time to prepare.

Turn 147.

Gunpowder and no Salpeter [cry]. Only two other AI have one for themselves atm, the Vikings don't know Gunpowder yet but have Salpeter in one of their settlements on Sumerian soil. Anar is ahead in tech as well so I have to prepare for Sumerian cav's.

Only good news is that the Arabs are almost extinct. No need for a new minimap imo with 4 tiles between Sumeria and Spain.

Suggestions are more than welcome atm [help]
