First pbem game on conquests. I'm playing the Persians so if I dont find iron quickly I'm fucked.

Moved worker to cow and saw a second cow so moved settler one square NE to get both cows and food bonus in Persepolis.

Mm - not much use irrigating or mining either of the cows while in despot. It will be a while before Persepolis uses any squares other than the two cows so i might as well just road them and explore fast.

Researching ironworking of course as fast as possible.

Well there is a huge advantage to irrigating the Cow even in Despot ?
Why do you say that ?

Yup, irrigating cow plains yields three food. Definitely do that, Col!

Ah - quite right. ;blush: I was thinking cow on plain produces two which is shown in city window. So if irrigated goes to three then back to two. In fact cow is +2 which means cow on plain is 3 back to two already. When irrigated goes to four back to three. Doh. The magic five food should be easy....

It was a hard day.

In fact roading first isnt too bad a move since I need to get max research to iron to get the immortals going and to get my second or third city where the iron is.

Skyfish

Actually with both cows irrigated you will only get to +4 food bonus [blush2]
Not quite the magic 5 but still better than no cow :)

col

Theres another food bonus - coconut thing on grassland - which gives a food bonus I think. That should take me up to 5.

Oh I am terribly sorry I thought it was Sugar on plains :(

Actually I've been trying to find out what it is while at work but noone has responded to my CFC post in the Conquests forum. You could well be right. Its not entirely unknown for me to be completely wrong. I'll check in the manual when I get home.

Nice to know after three turns I've already got it wrong :(

Bugger me, what a start. Three cows in shared between two cities. 2 warriors heade south and found the Germans. Awful territory. Berlin was guarded only by a single warrior - end of berlin. Got my FP site then. ;)

Three turns later I discover iron working having researched flat out. Iron next to the capital.

AND ... yup I get a SGL. So thats Pyramids next turn.

Fuck me Beam. If you can win this one, you'll do well.

Glad to see that the little glitches of the start do not impede you on your march to victory ;)

col

Actually roading before irrigating may have been a good move - if it got me a SGL.

Beam decided to build the GrLib instead of the Pyramids in my game, He had a SGL too
when researching his first tech... I still think that was not a good idea as The Pyr
last an entire game and help with early expansion!

Since the level is regent, the Gl will be a waste of time. We'll be doing our own research all the way. nearly got my iron connected but theres no hurry to get the immortals running. I dont want my GA yet.

Rapid expansion is the order of the day. I can just walk over the next civ which I can see - the Mayans. They also are using warriors to guard their cities.

I'm just polishing the warriors skills on a barb camp. With the way my luck is running I wont need too many elite wins to get a MGL and armies are stuningly powerful now. An immortal army will be powerful for a long long time.

Question - will a victory with an immortal army trigge my GA. I dont think so but I've nver had the chance to find out.

Yes of course it will!

So you two are playing Regent? I wondered why only one warrior in the capital... [crazyeye]

col

Are you sure? - have you actually seen it happen? I never have in all the time I've played Civ. I suppose theres only one way to find out.

Suppose it was a mixed army?

ERIKK

not that sure... [blush]

Ah thanks Erikk - its one of those strange things that has never occurred to me before - but IF I can get an army then it becomes a useful thing to know.

OK I had a look at this...

3 man immortal army = Golden Age
1 immortal plus 2 units with attack < 4 = Golden Age
1 immortal plus 2 units with attack > 4 = No Golden Age.

The Scenario

Wow Meli - you da man.

edit : its gonna be a while before I have any units with an attack >4

Meli, since I'm a lazy cunt to d/l testarmy.zip:
In case the
(1 immortal + 2 units with A>4) army would use the Immortal on attack, then GA is triggred??
(i.e. army gets enough damage during fight- so a quite risky thing anyways)

Side note:
Jav thrower (mixed) armies can produce slaves, in case that Jav chap does the dirty killing job.

Col, why did you research IW so fast? What is wrong with building a shitload of warriors and then upgrade them?

col
26-01-2004, 18:14
I wanted to know where the iron was. I'd got the boost of Pyramids early so I had the option of getting first pic of settler locations.

I can build immortals in about 4 turns AND burn my way through the tech tree. For some reason that escapes me, this game is on REGENT so its not much relying ont eh AI to do any research. I'm researching flat out - running a curreny deficit that is funded by bashing barbs and promoting my immortals. As soon as I get out of despotism, I'm gonna sweep through the next three civs driven by my GA.

At least thats the plan. I'm already way ahead of everyone else on score. As soon as I get another couple of lux connected and currency researched all my happiness problems will be over and my cities can grow unchecked.
