View Full Version : Pics from Wellington !! *warning, big files*
Here I am, biding my time in Wellington. It's 1.15 AM on November 16th and we are waiting for the ferrie to the south island. It is leaving at 3 am [crazyeye] We were so 'clever' to only book it 2 days in advance. Everything was fully booked, except for this dreadful time [aargh].
This country (New Zealand) is mourning. They just lost the rugby semi-final vs Australia.
Greetings to you all and 'see' you again in three weeks [thumbsup]
Hi !
Great to see you again ;)
That rugby loss is indeed amazing they were favourites to win the tournament !
Did you check out the Ladder to contemplate your first place ? Hope you did 'cause it aint gonna last long [mwaha]
Hi Aggie!
Hya, hope you have a great time. Seen any hobbits over there?

Wouldn't call it a spoiler, more of an early peek. You'd prolly get the picture in a few turns anyway, when you'll see all yellow on the WM diminish :D

Hi Aggie, If your willing to go for a walk in the mountains down south there is an awesome looking green parrot (Cant remember it's name) that lives up there. He doesn't fly, he just walks on the ground. He lives amongst the tufts of grass and looks pretty spectacular.
Have a good one. :)
Sir Eric, I already saw those Kea's ;)

aggie,he meant not keas but kakapos ;)
Kea = flies, shouts 'kea, kea' all the time (ornithologists love that, makes them easy to identify)
Kakapo = walks, hides, is quiet --> extremely hard to find (also because there are like 30 or so left that all now live on a tiny island where they were taken to protect them from cats and mice)

Beware of the killer moa's! Did you see any? That'd be cool since they're extinct. Oh, do they sell conquests over there?
Sir Eric

Thanks Killer I couldn't remember the name ( I was too lazy to walk to the bookshelf :p ). I didn't realize that they had moved them to an island. I hope they increase their numbers again.
Aggie. How about a bit of info on where you've been and what you've done so far?

Check out Douglas Adams 'Last chance to see' ;)
Well, I saw a green parrot called a Kea. It can fly and looks like this:

Up to now we spent about three days in Maleysia, 9 days on the North Island and 5 on the south island.
Amongst others we did a couple of hikes (vulcanic Toraringo and White Island, Abel Tasman track, Franz Josef glacier) and a lot of boat rides.
We have had a huge amount of good luck regarding the weather, but tomorrow will be bad and our scheduled Routeburn track two day hike is cancelled.
So we decided to go south even more and visit Dunedin and the eastern shores of the South Island. The weather should be better there.
Still planned are the Kepler Track (3 days), Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound, Mt Cook, Mt Aspiring. A lot to do and the weather looks to be improving. But it will be cold (12 degrees C)

In three weeks I will watch a nine hour documentary about NZ. It's split in three parts, I bet which I'm talking about ;)

That's one sick avatar, if I ever saw one.
Hope you re having a great time.

Hey what happened to Tom Yorke [cry]
Anyway, the last two days were awesome. In the Milford Sound we had PERFECT weather and I must say that it can compete with the finest scenery that I have seen in my life. Now we are in Quuenstown and I did a bungy jump, with a dip [eek]. Tomorrow will be spent with Jetboating and Rafting and then the Kepler track is on. It looks to be perfect weather for these things. Sun and 22 degrees celcius :D
I'm back [cry].
I had a perfect time in New Zealand and need a lot of time to recover/develop my 2000+ photos, but I'll buy Conquest today [hammer]
Good to have you back Aggie! Too bad you just missed the ddpp power session this tuesday. It was a classic ;).

Yeah the time difference between NZ and the netherlands is pretty painful. (jetlag-wise that is... )
ERIKK, there was no escaping in NZ from the world premiere of TROTK, but I wasn't one of the 2000 invited guests to see the movie... The rest of NZ has to wait for the world premiere.
I have to say that the movies didn't appeal to me, but 4 weeks of indoctrination changed that. This movie is very much a NZ thing. The whole country is going mad!
Killer, Darkness: The jetlag is 12 hours, but I try to get into the European rythm ASAP, because I have to go to work on Monday [eek]

How did you find the Milfound Sound track?
We're going over there in Feb '09 for 3 weeks and I'm trying to convince my wife to do that walk.
Sir Eric, I didn't walk that one. Instead I walked the Keppler Track and Routeburn Track. We were too late booking the Milford Track.
Doing a multi day hike is an absolute must when you are on the South Island. The scenery is spectacular. The Milford Track is the best known one, but I'm sure that the shorter Routeburn Track is just as beautiful.
I'd advise you to hike either the Milford Track or the Routeburn Track. Make sure that you visit Milford Sound by car or bus if you don't hike this one!

Hi SE. A bit late, but I didn't see your post.........
We did a hike on the glacier. This took about half a day and with beautiful weather this is one of the highlights (of the many highlights) of the South Island...
